Catalyst Report
Complaint Description
Description I own a web site company that provides solutions for churches and ministries and lately my customers are getting letters from Getty Images stating that photos on our sites are unlicensed. First off we always purchase photos from stock photo sites because there is no other way to download them unless you purchase them. Secondly, we have downloaded many images from free sites like www.sxc.hu which rose in popularity when Getty started to charge so much per photo (now owned by Getty Images). Many of the images that we use can be found across multiple stock image sites yet they claim ownership regardless if a photographer post it for sale in many different places. All I can tell you is that we have always maintained a fair and honest method of doing business and would never take a photos without paying for it unless it was posted to a free site. My research online has led me to believe that Getty is seeding these sites with photos in order to collect on them later. I would like to request a full investigation into their business practices as it appears to be an extortion in my opinion. I can be reached anytime if you need further information. We only wish to be in full compliance of the law and maintain that we always have operated our business in such a way. Thanks for you help in resolving this problem! Expected resolution details: I just want to be sure I and my customers are in compliance and no longer harassed.
