Faculty Self-Evaluation 2011-2012 Shelia Sargent-Martin Faculty will complete this form by Nov.

1 for the preceding academic year and submit the original copy to the Personnel Office, a copy to the appropriate program director or chair, and retain a personal copy. The program director or chair will meet individually with each faculty member to discuss this form. A record of the comments will be written by the program director or chair and forwarded to the faculty member and the personnel office. Any faculty response and the directors or chairs report will be filed in the division office annually. Directions: Under each item listed below, please write a brief narrative which gives the description, evaluation, and goals for each item. Select those items under each category which apply to you and respond as indicated. For those items which do not apply to you, please use the designation NA. Please word process this document or use this form and a separate sheet of paper if necessary. Description: identify and explain how you accomplish the item. Evaluation: determine how well or to what degree you feel that you meet the item. Goal: state a goal to meet this item during the coming year. I. Teaching and Advising A. Course revision or improvement projects, including classroom research a. Description: i. In cooperation with EDUC 330, Dr. B. Steenken, students will create multicultural digital stories. ii. Develop and teach EDUC 333, Teaching Science and Social Studies, a new course to teacher education. b. Evaluation: i. Students will complete the projects using an instructor designed rubric. ii. Student evaluations c. Goals i. Digital story assigned will be adjusted according to results and student feedback for the following year. ii. The class outline and meeting sessions will be revamped according to instructor and students feedback. B. Conferences, workshops, or work experience directly related to your BSC assignment and tell whether conferences and workshops are national, regional, or state. a. Description:

Teaching effectiveness (review your student evaluation survey results for previous semesters since last self-evaluation and provide an interpretation) a. Description: READ 371 Teaching Reading and Language Arts, READ 270 and EDUC 321 b. Evaluation: I reviewed the student evaluations and was pleased by the overall comments. In READ 270 comments were positive indicating students would take additional classes from me as an instructor. READ 371 contained positive comments as well with the exception of one student. The student commented that I did not address questions. Although I thought I made a point of asking if there were questions I will incorporate a time for questions throughout class periods. c. Goals: Review evaluations to determine areas I can build upon and improve. II. Scholarly and Creative Activities A. Publications in referred journals a. Description: I will submit an article for publication. b. Evaluation: I co-authored an article, Yes, Virginia: Reading First Did Work, with a former colleague and it was published in the spring in the Virginia State Reading Associations journal Reading in Virginia.
