Ceiling collapses, cracks
appear in 27 houses
THE kitchen ceiling of a house in
Taman Wawasan 1, Pusat Bandar
Puchong collapsed on Saturday,
while cracks were found in an-
other 27 houses in the area.
The house owner, Chan Shee
Woo, 40, said the ceiling collapsed
in the kitchen at about 9am, be-
lieved to be caused by the impact
of the ongoing construction behind
his house.
“Before this incident, we (resi-
dents) had informed the developer
and the local authority about the
cracks in our houses, but no action
has been taken so far,” he said.
Chan said although he and his
family had been staying in the
house for over 10 years, they were
willing to move out for fear that
the incident might recur.

KUALA LUMPUR City Hall will
study a suggestion to prohibit
motorcycles from entering cer-
tain roads in the city centre, and
look at it from all angles before
deciding whether it is practical
or not.
Mayor Datuk Ahmad Fuad
Ismail (pix) told theSun that the
idea was suggested by the police
and not City Hall.
“We did not come up with the
idea,” said Ahmad.
“It was the police who first
suggested it as one of the ways
to combat crime, such as snatch
thefts,” he said.
Ahmad said it is wrong for
the public to point fingers at
City Hall by claiming the idea is
impractical or ridiculous.
“We have heard a lot from
various parties (on the idea) and
we will have to study the idea
first, look at all angles, and then
decide if it is practical or not.
“There are other ideas that
can be used, such as setting up
railings along pedestrian walks
... but everything needs to be
studied at great length first, in-
cluding the legal provisions.
“It’s not a decision; just a
suggestion. All aspects must be
scrutinised, including the impact
and the public’s reaction upon
its implementation.”

While refuting the allegation
that the incident was caused by
the construction project, Nor Azmi
said it could have been caused by
house renovations carried out by
the residents without approval.
After Saturday’s incident, Nor
Azmi said the residents were is-
sued with a notice to vacate their
homes under section 83(2) of the
Road, Drainage and Building Act
1974 (Act 133).
“They are to move to the
MPSJ-owned people’s housing
units in Pangsapuri Enggang,
Bandar Kinrara, Puchong,” he said,
adding that MPSJ would convene
a meeting with the relevant par-
ties, including the developer and
residents, today to further discuss

that although the proposal was
initially rejected by many quar-
ters, it was being reconsidered
following the increase in snatch
theft cases involving motorcy-

“If we do not do so, then we
will never know whether or not
it will work,” Ahmad told report-
ers last week.
“I’m sure there will be many
protests, but if the road is closed
for motorcyclists, they will not
be burdened as there are alter-
native routes available.
“After all, it is all for the safety
of the public and the tourists,” he
said.
