The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is a 2003 novel written by Mark Haddon, who won the

Guardian Childrens Fiction Prize and Booktrust Teenage Fiction Award. The story begins with Christopher, a very special fifteen-year-old boy who has an incredible photographic memory and, besides, he is gifted with spectacular mathematics and science knowledge. But Christopher cannot understand human feelings. He does not understand useful expressions, or idioms or indirect questions. In fact, he sees life as a mathematical problem to be solved. Christopher is writing a murder novel, because he does like murder mystery novels (his favorite is the murder mystery novel by Sherlock Holmes named The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle,). In any case, he writes about how he has found his neighbours dog killed with a garden fork and how decides to solve the mystery himself and find out who committed the crime. His father doesnt like Christopher to go to other houses asking his neighbours about the killing and because of that he hides Christophers book. But as Christopher is very stubborn he is determined to solve the mystery and on his way to find the book, he discovers a big secret about his family who changes his entire world. In my personal opinion, this is an original and entertaining novel, with a moving and brilliant lead character that makes you think about how a boy like him sees the world (I could say it is quite a thought-provoking novel too) and how he communicates with people he does not understand. I mean, I cannot imagine anyone who would not have fun and be moved by this book, so I recommend you put it on your library list.
