PACERS' GAME NOTES

Last Game: Indiana 112, Phoenix 104 3/30 US Airways Center, Phoenix, AZ Indiana's longest free throw parade of the season took the Pacers to their fourth straight win. Paul George scored 25 points to lead all five Indiana starters in double figures and the Pacers beat the Phoenix Suns 112-104. Roy Hibbert scored 20, Lance Stephenson 16, George Hill 15 and David West 14 for the Pacers. Indiana's seventh victory in eight games lifted them a half-game ahead of idle New York for second in the Eastern Conference. Goran Dragic had 21 points and nine assists for the Suns before fouling out with 1:10 to play. Indiana made 34-46 free throws, its season high in makes and attempts. They also were opponent highs for the Suns. The Suns, losers of six in a row, were outscored 10-3 over the final three minutes after cutting the lead to 102-101. Markieff Morris added 18 for the Suns, who had seven in double figures. Trailing 86-76 after three quarters, the Suns cut it to 97-94 on five points by Dragic, a fast-break layup after a long pass from Jermaine O'Neal, followed by a 3-pointer with 5:08 to play. Dragic's spinning layup from the baseline cut it to 99-98 with 3:43 left, then George was fouled by Wesley Johnson on a 3-pt try and made all three from the line to put the Pacers up 102-98 with 3:28 to go. But O'Neal converted a three-point play to cut it to 102-101 3:10 from the finish. Indiana pulled away from the line. West made two free throws with 2:46 to go, George sank two more with 1:50 to play and Stephenson made one of two with 1:10 left, leaving the Pacers up 107-101. West's 15-footer, Indiana's lone field goal over the final four and a half minutes, made it 109-101 with 34.6 seconds to play. After making just six of their first 15 free throw tries, Indiana made 28-31 FT the rest of the way. George had 24 points and eight rebounds and the Pacers broke open a close game in the third quarter to beat the Mavericks 103-78 on Thursday night. With the game tied at half, the Pacers outscored the Mavericks 34-17 in the third. George had eight points in a 20-5 run to open the second half. Dirk Nowitzki scored 21 points for Dallas, which remained a game and a half behind the Los Angeles Lakers in the race for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Roy Hibbert had 16 points and 11 rebounds one night after scoring a season-high 28 against Houston, and Tyler Hansbrough added 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench for Indiana. David West scored seven points in his return for the Pacers after missing six games with a lower back strain. The Pacers outrebounded the Mavericks 55-34 and scored 15 second chance points. Dallas suffered its 11th loss of 20 points or more this season. George Hill hit a 3-pointer to start the second half and break a 41-all halftime tie. Paul George hit a 21-footer to push Indiana's lead to 49-42. Indiana closed the 20-5 run with a couple of layups from Hill and a jumper from Ian Mahinmi to make it 61-46 midway through the third. George scored 13 points in the third. He finished 10-17 from the field and had six assists and three steals. Mahinmi closed the third with a dunk off a pass from Orlando Johnson as the Pacers outscored the Mavericks 34-17 in the third. Vince Carter had 14 points and Darren Collison added 10 or Dallas. Indiana 100, Houston 91 3/27 Toyota Center, Houston, TX The Indiana Pacers landed the first punch and never allowed the Houston Rockets to recover, as they led from start to finish in a 100-91 victory on Wednesday at Toyota Center. Roy Hibbert led Indiana, which has won five of its last six games overall, with a season-high 28 points on 11-17 shooting and 13 rebounds, while Lance Stephenson netted 21 points on 9-14 shooting. Tyler Hansbrough finished with 16 points and eight boards for the Pacers. Greg Smith paced Houston with 18 points and a career-high 19 rebounds. James Harden added 22 points and eight assists, but connected on only six of 24 shot attempts to spearhead the Rockets' dismal 38.6 percent shooting effort. Indiana's starting frontcourt of George, Hansbrough and Hibbert dominated the matchup with their counterparts, Omer Asik, Donatas Motiejunas and Chandler Parsons. The Pacers' trio outscored and outrebounded Asik, Motiejunas and Parsons, 60-19 and 27-9, respectively. After the Rockets scored off a pair of steals to cut Indiana's lead to 68-64 with just under seven minutes remaining in the third period, the Pacers responded with a 12-3 run to regain control of the match. Indiana limited Houston to one basket while scoring on five of seven possessions during the run. Tonight's Opponent: The Pacers look for a split of the season series, and a third win in their last five games, with the L.A. Clippers on Monday, 4/1. A win at STAPLES Center Monday would be the Pacers third in their last four games in that building, but it would be the Pacers first on the Clippers home since 2009. Indiana has won its last two games in STAPLES Center against the L.A. Lakers, but has lost two straight on the Clippers floor there. Mondays game will be the 77th all-time between the Pacers and the Clippers franchise, including that teams days as the Buffalo Braves and the San Diego Clippers. The Pacers and Clippers have met in Los Angeles 26 previous times and Indiana has come out on top 14 times, while the Clippers have won eight of 11 games on their home floor prior to moving to L.A. Including a loss to the Clippers in Indianapolis in February, the Pacers are 47-29 in the series and the two teams are 8-8 in the last 16 games. When things started to get a little out of control, Chris Paul took matters into his own hands. The Clippers' star point guard responded to a 13-0 Indiana run by scoring his team's final eight points down the stretch to quell a Pacers comeback and deliver a 99-91 victory in Bankers Life Fieldhouse, 2/28. Paul finished with 29 points and eight assists, game-highs in both categories, while Jamal Crawford scored 23 off the bench for the Clippers. Blake Griffin scored 18 points with 14 rebounds. David West scored 22 and Paul George 20 for Indiana, which had a five-game win streak snapped. The Clippers tried to pull away twice but Indiana reeled them back. Griffin scored eight in a 13-0 run in the third quarter that pushed the visitors' lead to 72-63, but the Pacers trimmed it to 78-71 early in the fourth. Five different Clippers then scored in an 11-1 run as Indiana missed nine shots in a row to fall behind 89-72. Trailing by 17 with 5:38 remaining, however, Paul George got hot, hitting a pair of 3-pt FG in a 13-0 Indiana run that cut the lead to 91-87 with 2:45 left. That's when Paul stepped in, hitting an off-balance jumper, then converting two drives that made it 97-91 with 31.3 seconds remaining.

PACERS' GAME NOTES

Next Opponent: The Pacers return home to finish off a run of five straight games against Western Conference competition by hosting the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday, 4/5. That will be Indianas final game of 2012-13 vs. a team from the Western Conference and the Pacers will head into that game looking for their sixth win in 10 games against the Thunder. A win would also be Indianas fifth in its last six home games with Oklahoma City. Including a loss earlier this season in Oklahoma, the Pacers trail the all-time series with the Thunder, 44-32. But, Indiana has won 22 of its 38 home games against the Thunder franchise, which includes its days as the Seattle SuperSonics. Kevin Durant scored 27 points, Kevin Martin added 24 and the Thunder clamped down in the second half to beat the Indiana Pacers 104-93, at Oklahoma City, 12/9. It was a matchup of the NBA's most potent offense and the league's stingiest defense -- but Oklahoma City also happens to be the second-best at making opponents miss. The Pacers shot 60 percent in the first half before Thunder coach Scott Brooks delivered a message at halftime. His players responded by limiting Indiana to 33 percent from the floor after that. Russell Westbrook had 21 points but more importantly came up with a big block against Indiana center Roy Hibbert during a late 8-0 burst by the Thunder that put it away after the Pacers had pulled to within three. David West led the way with 21 points for Indiana, which had all five starters score in double figures but still couldn't keep up. The not-so-balanced Pacers came in allowing an NBA-best 91.2 points per game but scoring a league-low 90.7. The league's worst shooting team at 41.5 percent from the field, Indiana was connecting on 59 percent midway through the third quarter before a 1-13 dry spell allowed Oklahoma City to move ahead to stay. Serge Ibaka had two straight putbacks and later added a jumper as the Thunder took advantage with a 17-3 run, taking an 82-72 lead on Nick Collison's free throw with 46 seconds left in the third quarter. The Pacers chipped away and pulled to 94-91 on Paul George's 3-pt FG from the right wing with 5:26 to play. Durant found Ibaka open underneath for a layup on the other end, and the Thunder scored eight straight points to regain control. After his block against Hibbert under the basket, Westbrook hit a jumper from the right wing, came up with a steal and then nailed another jumper from the left side for a 102-91 advantage with 2:59 left. Miscellaneous Team Notes: On a Roll Including the first three games of their current four-game road trip, the Pacers have won seven of their last eight games and the win at Phoenix Saturday, 3/30, was their seventh win in their last 10 games outside of Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Having won four in a row and 21 of their last 29, the Pacers have moved back in front of the New York Knicks into second place in the Eastern Conference and put a near stranglehold on their first Central Division title in nine years. With eight games left to play in the regular season, the Pacers lead the Chicago Bulls by six and a half games and they have reduced their magic number to clinch the division to just three. In Los Angeles tonight, the Pacers conclude their final road trip of more than two games, and play their final road game in a stretch of five straight games against teams from the Western Conference. Including four straight 100-point performances vs. Atlanta, Houston, Dallas and Phoenix, the Indiana offense has truly begun to percolate. The Pacers have scored 98 or more points in 19 of the last 31 games and shot 47 percent from the floor, or better, in 13 of the last 31. On defense, the Pacers rank as the leagues best with a defensive average of 89.66 ppg. Indiana has held 37 of its 74 opponents to less than 90 points and 15 of those have failed to reach even 80 points. The Pacers also lead the NBA in defensive field goal percentage (.415) and defensive 3-pt FG percentage (.322). The Pacers have won seven of their last eight, despite playing six of those eight games without starting power forward David West, who rejoined the lineup in Dallas. But, despite being relegated back to the second unit, Tyler Hansbrough put up his seventh straight stellar performance with 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench in Dallas. In the last eight games, Hansbrough has averaged 13.4 ppg and 9.6 rpg. Defense Wins Games Coming off a seven-game stretch in which the Pacers offense was the story, the defense has taken center stage in the last 24 games. In those 24 games, the opposition has averaged 89.0 ppg and posted the three lowest outputs by an Indiana opponent this season: 69 points by the Philadelphia 76ers, 2/6, 72 points by the Pistons at Detroit, 2/23, and 73 points by the Orlando Magic at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, 3/19. In the last 24 games, the opposition has shot 798-1979 from the floor (.403) and hit just 128-406 (.315) from beyond the 3-pt arc. Just 11 of the last 24 opponents have shot above 41 percent FG, including the Milwaukee Bucks opponent season-low 30.7 percent (31-101) at the Fieldhouse, 3/22. At Houston, 3/27, the Pacers held the NBAs fifth leading scorer, James Harden, to 22 points (four below his average of over 26 ppg) and he shot 6-24 from the floor with 3-10 from beyond the 3-pt arc. Thus far in 2012-13, the Pacers opposition is a combined 2523-6086 from the field, for a mark of 41.5 percent, which is lowest in the NBA. Indiana has held its opponents to 32.2 percent shooting from 3-pt range this season and that also leads the NBA. Indiana has allowed its opponents 5.31 3-pt FG per game, which is lowest in the NBA. East Meets West Beginning with last Wednesday nights win in Houston, the Pacers will play five straight games against teams from the West, including stops on this road trip in Dallas, 3/28, Phoenix, 3/30, and Los Angeles, 4/1, to face the Clippers. The Pacers will play their final game against a Western Conference foe this season when the Oklahoma City makes its only appearance in the Fieldhouse on Friday, 4/5. With the win over the Mavericks on Thursday, 3/28, the Pacers have ensured themselves of a winning record against the West for a second straight season. Having won a third straight game on the road at Phoenix Saturday night, the Pacers elevated their overall record against the Western Conference to 17-11. Ending a run of five straight seasons with a losing record against the West, the Pacers were 13-5 vs. Western Conference teams in 2011-12, including a mark of 7-2 at home. Offensive Juggernaut Since a three-game stretch just before the All-Star break in which it produced 90.0 ppg and shot 100-256 (.391), the Pacers offensive game has definitely been on the upswing in the last 22 games. In that span, Indiana has averaged 100.18 ppg on 804-1783 FG (.451). In comparison, the Pacers averaged 92.65 ppg and shot 1804-4210 FG (.429) in their first 52 games. After averaging 20.12 apg in the first 52 games, the Pacers have handed out an average of 21.14 apg in the last 22. In those 22 games, Indiana has had 20+ assists 13 times, including a season-high 33 at Orlando, 3/8, 29 at Cleveland, 3/18, and vs. the Pistons, 2/22. Indiana has averaged 7.45 3-pt field goals made per game in the last 22 games and shot the 3-pointer at a 37.2 percent clip (164-441) after making 6.73 3-pt FG on 34.8 percent shooting from long distance in the first 52 games. Including a season-best 10-14 (.714) from 3-pt range, the Pacers hit a season-high 56.2 percent of their shots from the floor in a blowout of the Detroit Pistons, 2/22. Including their 25-point win at Dallas, 3/28, the Pacers last 18 victories have been by a combined 276 points (15.33 ppg). After hitting the 100-point mark 12 times in their first 52 games, the Pacers have scored 100+ points 12 times in the last 22 games. For the season, the Pacers are the 10th lowest scoring team in the NBA with an average of 94.89 ppg and their 43.5 percent shooting from the floor is fourth lowest in the NBA. Road Warriors Tonights game in Phoenix is the fifth of six road games in a span of nine games overall and they have won six of their last nine games outside of Bankers Life Fieldhouse. A win against the Magic in Orlando, 3/8, gave the Pacers their first fourgame road winning streak of the campaign. But, that streak came to a crashing end with losses to the Heat in Miami, 3/10, and to the 76ers in Philadelphia, 3/16. After a 1-6 start on the road, the Pacers are 16-13 (.552) in their last 29 games outside the Fieldhouse. With last nights win in Dallas, the Pacers are now 4-1 on the road against Southwest Division teams.

PACERS' GAME NOTES

We're Doing the Dishes! While four Indiana starters had three or more assists, the rest of the team totaled four assists between them and Indiana had assists on 18 of its 37 field goals at Phoenix, 3/30. The Pacers have had fewer than 20 assists just 13 times in the last 38 games and averaged 21.24 apg in that spam Indianas win at Phoenix was its 13th in 31 games this season in which it has had fewer than 20 assists. In his last 25 games, George Hill has handed out 107 assists and committed just 24 turnovers, for a ratio of 4.46-to-1. For the season, Hill ranks eighth in the NBA with a ratio of 2.96-to-1. Recording the first triple-double of his NBA career, Paul George added 12 rebounds and a team-high 23 points to his career-high 12 assists in the win over Charlotte, 2/13. His triple-double was the third recorded by a Pacers player this season and the second against the Bobcats. In 74 games this season, Indiana has averaged 20.42 apg, fourth lowest in the NBA. Cleaning the Glass A strength for the Pacers last season has become even more so in 2012-13, as they have outrebounded the opposition in 55 of 74 games this season and they lead the league with an average of 46.41 rebounds per game. Outrebounding an opponent for the 17th time in the last 18 games, the Pacers got at least five rebounds from six different players at Phoenix, 3/30, including a team-high seven from Roy Hibbert and David West. Hibberts seven ended a run of 10+ rebounds in four straight and he had double digit rebounds in nine of the last 15 games. After starting six straight games, and averaging better than 10 rebounds a game (10.33 rpg) in that stretch, Tyler Hansbrough has totaled 15 boards in the last two games. The Pacers win at Phoenix was their 38th in a game in which they outrebounded the opposition. In 178 regular season games since Frank Vogel took over the reins as head coach midway through 2010-11, the Pacers have outrebounded their opponent 116 times. The Pacers have claimed over 52 percent (.526) of all the available rebounds in their games this season and that is second best in the NBA, behind Memphis, which has collected 52.8 percent of the rebounds in its contests. Its All About Second Chances At Phoenix, 3/30, the Pacers had four players with six or more total rebounds and all four of those players, David West, Roy Hibbert, Tyler Hansbrough and Ian Mahinmi, all had four offensive rebounds and had more rebounds at the offensive end than they did at the defensive end. In all, the Pacers had 19 offensive rebounds, their most since having 22 in consecutive games vs. Milwaukee, 1/5, and Miami, 1/8. Indianas 19 offensive boards against the Suns resulted in 13 second chance points and Phoenix scored 18 second chance points on just nine offensive boards. Including an average of 4.0 orpg in the last five contests, Roy Hibbert has collected 146 offensive rebounds in his last 39 games and his Eastern Conference-leading total of 274 ranks second best in the NBA, behind Zach Randolph (280). Including their 565 in the last 42 games, the Pacers have averaged 12.96 offensive rebounds per game in 2012-13, fourth best in the NBA. Their average of 14.743 second chance points per game is seventh best in the league. At his current pace (3.75 orpg) Hibbert would have 304 offensive rebounds in 2012-13, which would be second most in a single season in Pacers NBA history. Back-to-Back Having won in Houston and Dallas in the same season for the second year in a row, the Pacers did so on consecutive nights in 2012-13, sweeping a back-to-back for the seventh time this season and second time in March. With its win at Dallas, Indiana improved 13-7 in the second game of back-to-backs.. The Pacers opened a back-to-back with a win for the 12th time this season with their 100-91 wire-to-wire win at Houston Wednesday, 3/27. Since losing their first four opening games of back-to-backs, the Pacers have gone 12-4 in the first outing of two games in two nights. With its win at Philadelphia, 2/6, Indiana won all three games in a backto-back-to-back for the first time since the first week of January (1/2-4) 1981. With losses to the Lakers in Indianapolis, 3/15, and at Philadelphia, 3/16, the Pacers lost both ends of a back-to-back for just the second time this season, and the first time since mid-November. It Takes a Thief Claiming at least three steals for the fourth time in the last five games, and the third game in a row, Paul George gathered in a game-high four in the Pacers win over Phoenix, 3/30. That was his most in nearly 30 games, since he had four in the Pacers loss at Denver, 1/28. George was one of three Pacers with multiple steals, as Lance Stephenson had three and David West collected. Indiana had a total of 12 steals against the Suns, their 11th game with double digits this season, but their first with 10 or more in the last 14 games. Including five in the second half that resulted in three easy buckets and two free throws, the Pacers totaled eight steals in their blowout win at Dallas, 3/28. Coming off games vs. Orlando, 3/19, and Milwaukee, 3/22, in which they totaled 10 steals in the two games, the Pacers have averaged 8.8 spg in the last five contests. After having had more than two steals just three times in his first 60 appearances this season, George Hill has had multiple thefts five times in his last 10 games and he has averaged 1.50 spg in his last 12. Since averaging 6.0 spg in the first 23 games, the Pacers have averaged nearly eight steals a game (7.63 spg) in the last 51. The Pacers average of 7.12 steals per game in 2012-13 is tied for seventh lowest in the NBA. Home Court Advantage The Pacers win over the Atlanta Hawks Monday was their 24th in their last 29 games in Bankers Life Fieldhouse. That stretch includes a 15game home winning streak, Indianas longest since a 25-game streak in their first season in the Fieldhouse, 1999-2000. With a winning percentage of .784 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the Pacers have the second best home mark (29-8) in the Eastern Conference and the fifth best winning percentage at home in the NBA. With its 21st home win of the season vs. Charlotte, 2/13, the Pacers extended their streak of seasons with a winning home record to 24 in a row, the longest active streak in the NBA. The Pacers are 61-21 in their last 82 regular season games at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. From the Line Including 7-13 by the duo of Paul George and Roy Hibbert, the Pacers looked to be off to another lackluster outing from the foul line in the first half at Phoenix, 3/30. But, the Pacers found the mark from the free throw line in the second half, hitting 21-24 FT (.875) in the final two periods. With 12 and 10 attempts, respectively, George and Hibbert were the first Pacers teammates this season to attempt 10+ free throws in the same game and they combined for 15 points at the stripe. George Hill added six of his 15 points from the foul line on seven attempts. Meanwhile, Phoenix missed just one of its free throws, but attempted just 19 and the Pacers nearly doubled the Suns, 34-18, from the line. At Dallas, 3/28, the Pacers came away with one of their most lopsided wins of the season, despite having one of their poorer nights at the foul line this season. Indiana had nearly twice as many free throw attempts as the Mavericks (26-14), but shot just 61.5 percent from the foul line for a 16-10 edge in points from the stripe. While Roy Hibbert shot 6-8 FT on his way to 16 points at Dallas, the rest of the team hit just 10-18 FT. In a season in which the Pacers have been one of the poorer free throw shooting teams with a mark of 75.0 percent, they have outscored their opponents by 96 points from the foul line, scoring 1292 points to the oppositions 1196 points from the line. Indiana has attempted 141 more free throws this season than its opponents, attempting 1723 free throws to the oppositions 1582. Indianas 75.0 percent from the line this season ranks 18th in the NBA. From Downtown After averaging just under 91 points per game through its first 38 games, the Pacers have found a renewed and energized offense, fueled, in part, by a zeroing in from the 3-pt line. Through 38 games the Pacers shot just 33.7 percent from 3-pt range. However, in the last 36 games, Indiana has hit 267-714 3-pt FG for 37.4 percent. At Phoenix, 3/30, Paul George hit 2-7 from beyond the arc and Lance Stephenson and George Hill each made 1-3 3-pt FG. However, the bench was 0-2 from long range. Paul George has canned 47-136 from long range (.346) in the last 21 games. On the season, the Pacers have shot 35.5 percent from 3-pt range, 20th in the NBA. In 2011-12, Indiana was sixth best in the league with a mark of 36.8 percent from 3-pt range.

PACERS' GAME NOTES

Always on the Run At Phoenix, 3/30, the Pacers had their most points on the break in 13 games, but gave up their third most points on the break in the last 29 games to the Suns, as both teams scored 19 fast break points in Indianas 112-104 win at US Airways Center. Outscored on the fast break for the second time in three games, and just the fourth time in the last 14, the Pacers scored six points on the break to Dallass eight fast-break points. That was the 11th time in the last 17 games that Indiana has held an opponent to less than nine fast break points and the win lifted Indianas record in games it scores more fast break points to 33-12. On the break, the Pacers have shot 91-136 from the floor in the last 20 games, including their 6-6 FG at Phoenix. Conversely, the opposition has hit 74-130 from the floor in fast-break situations over the same 20 games. Including their 384 fast-break points in the last 35 games, the Pacers have averaged 11.622 fast break ppg this season, 10th lowest in the NBA. The teams total of 860 fast break points thus far in 2012-13 have included a season-high 26 against the Knicks, 2/20, and a total of six games with 20 or more fast-break points. While the Pacers last 30 opponents have averaged 10.600 fast-break points per game, they have held opponents on the season to an NBAlow 9.878 ppg on the fast break, more than two points a game fewer than the Miami Heats defensive average of 11.917, which is second lowest in the league. The Starting Lineup Unlike years gone by when they utilized upwards of 20 or more different starting combinations in a season, the Pacers have used just 14 different starting lineups in the last two seasons combined. Against Atlanta, 3/25, the Pacers played without three of their normal starters: David West, George Hill and Lance Stephenson, who were all nursing injuries. The result was the teams ninth different starting combination: George, Hansbrough, Hibbert, Augustin and Green. But, Hill and Stephenson returned for the win at Houston, and the combination of George, Hansbrough, Hibbert, Hill and Stephenson made its fifth appearance in six games. Only one of the five different starting lineups from last season has made an appearance in 2012-13, but that one consisting of Paul George, David West, Roy Hibbert, Lance Stephenson and George Hill has been the most commonly used one in 2012-13 with 55 appearances. That combination started just one game (0-1) in 2011-12. The Pacers opening night starting lineup of Gerald Green, David West, Roy Hibbert, Paul George and George Hill has made five appearances, and has won four times (.800). Those five games, three he missed in December and the game against Atlanta are the only games Lance Stephenson has not started and the Pacers are 39-19 with him in the starting lineup. The Pacers most commonly used starting five has a record of 35-20 (.636) in 2012-13. Recycled Blocking fewer than two shots in a game for just the sixth time in the last 25, Roy Hibbert had just one blocked shot for the second game in a row at Phoenix, 3/30, and the Pacers had just five as a team in the over the Suns. Paul George blocked a team-high two shots and Ian Mahinmi and Lance Stephenson each blocked one shot against the Suns. Mahinmis block was his 10th in 11 games and Stephensons one gave him five in the last seven games. Including Roy Hibberts six in the third quarter alone, the Pacers rejected double-digit shots for the ninth time this season with 11 against the Bucks, 3/22. Hibberts blocked shot at Phoenix gave him 195 this season, the third highest total in a single season in Pacers NBA history. With just five more, he will be the second player in team history with 200 rejections in a single seasonjoining Jermaine ONeal, who blocked 228 shots in 2000-01. Coming off a four-game stretch in which they averaged just 4.0 bpg and had a season-low one rejection at Miami, 3/10, the Pacers have swatted away an average of 6.38 shots per game in the last eight. Including his 17 in the last six games, Roy Hibbert has averaged 2.96 bpg in his last 25 games. Registering the first triple-double by a Pacers player in nine years, Hibbert set a team record with 11 blocks in the Pacers overtime win over New Orleans at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, 11/21. The Pacers head into tonights game against the Clippers as the third best shot-blocking team in the NBA with an average of 6.55 bpg. In the Paint Scoring 50+ points for the fifth time in the last 13 games, the Pacers outscored the Phoenix Suns, 50-40, from the paint in their 112-104 win at US Airways Center on Saturday, 3/30. The Pacers are now 28-9 when scoring at least 40 points in the paint and their win over the Suns was their 11th (11-15) in a game in which they allowed the opposition 40+ points in the paint The Pacers have scored 40 or more points in the paint in 11 of the last 16 games. Led by Roy Hibbert, the Pacers dominated the paint early on at Houston, 3/27, where they built a 19-point lead in the opening quarter and outscored the Rockets, 22-12, in the paint in the period. Hibbert scored half his season-high 28 points from the paint in the first quarter alone. But, that would be where the domination in the paint ended. Houston turned to reserve big men Thomas Robinson and Greg Smith and the Rockets outscored the Pacers 34-24 in the paint the rest of the way. Robison and Smith scored a combined 28 points in the game and 20 of those came from the painted area. For the game, both the Pacers and Rockets scored 46 points in the paint and Indianas win in Houston and Dallas have raised their record in games with 40+ points in the paint to 28-9. Indiana has won 38 of its 49 games in which it has outscored the opposition in the paint. Since the L.A. Clippers scored 50 points in the paint at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, 2/28, the Pacers last 16 opponents have averaged 34.125 ppg in the paint. In 2012-13 the Pacers average of 39.649 ppg in the paint is 10th lowest in the NBA and Indiana has scored just under 42 percent (.41783) of its points this season from the paint and that is 18th highest in the NBA. Indiana leads the NBA with a defensive average of 35.108 ppg and the opposition has scored 39.156 percent of its points against Indiana from the paint and that is second lowest in the league. The Turnover Battle Committing 15 or fewer turnovers for the 12th time in the last 15 games, the Pacers had just 14 in the game at Phoenix, 3/30, while the Suns committed 17 turnovers that Indiana turned into 17 points off turnovers. While giving up no points off its three turnovers in the fourth quarter, the Pacers scored six points off four Suns turnovers in the final 12 minutes, including a point scored off a Lance Stephenson steal with just 1:11 remaining in the game. Including Phoenixs 17, the Indiana defense has forced the opposition into more than 13 turnovers in just six of the last 17 games and the opposition has averaged 13.53 topg for the season. Those miscues have resulted in an average of 15.311 ppg off turnovers for Indiana, which is eighth lowest in the NBA Conversely, the Pacers have given up an average of 15.703 ppg off their turnovers, the seventh lowest average in the NBA.

PACERS' GAME NOTES

Head Coach Frank Vogel Overall Record: 109-69 Playoff record: 7-9 Seasons in NBA: 3rd Record with Indiana: 109-69 Playoff record with Indiana: 7-9 Seasons with Indiana: 3rd Frank Vogel was named head coach of the Pacers, July 6, 2011, after serving as head coach the last 38 games of the 2010-11 season. He is currently the second-youngest head coach in the National Basketball Association at the age of 38, a result of perseverance, hard work and dedication to the sport. Vogel took over for Jim OBrien, Jan. 30, 2011, and guided the Pacers to a 20-18 record and their first playoff berth in four seasons. In the first round of the Eastern Conference Playoffs against the Chicago Bulls, who had the NBAs best regular season record, the Pacers lost the best-seven series, 4-1, but the Pacers left their mark in the highly-competitive series. I watched the Pacers last year and was very impressed with how hard they played, how they competed and how they were prepared, said Pacers President of Basketball Donnie Walsh, who took over for Larry Bird June 27. Thats a credit to Frank and the coaching staff of Brian Shaw, Dan Burke and Jim Boylen, which Frank assembled. He has a very positive attitude that is refreshing in todays game. Im very grateful to (team owner) Herb Simon and Larry Bird (who hired Vogel after the interim season) for giving me this opportunity, said Vogel, who was the NBAs Coach of the Month for April last season when the Pacers compiled a 12-3 record. This is a challenge I embrace and look forward to. Our teams the last two years finished strong with a positive playoff showing and its something we all can definitely build on. Weve taken huge steps as a team, as a franchise, and they were big steps, but were not satisfied with that by any stretch. Vogel, who is entering his 16th NBA season (eight as an assistant coach), got his start in the NBA as the head video coordinator with the Boston Celtics under Rick Pitino. He served in that role from 1997-2001 before becoming an assistant coach with the Celtics under OBrien, following OBrien as an assistant in Philadelphia and in 2007 with the Pacers. Vogel spent two seasons as an advance scout for the Los Angeles Lakers (2005-06) and Washington Wizards (200607). Vogel is a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a degree in biology and became the Wildcats video coordinator after graduation. He attended Juniata College in Huntington, Pa., where he was a three-year starter for the Division III Eagles. He then transferred to Kentucky, became a student manager and played on the junior varsity team in 1996. While at Juniata, he made a decision that changed his life. An admirer of Pitino, who was the coach at Kentucky, Frank wanted to learn about coaching from Pitino. He made numerous requests to get to Kentucky as a walk-on, a student manager, anything. He finally got through to Jim O'Brien, as assistant to Pitino, who saw to it that Frank became a student manager, even though the Wildcats preferred in-state students for that job. Frank was also a member of the junior varsity that year and his work ethic landed him the job as Kentucky's video coordinator after graduation. Pitino left Kentucky for the head coach's position with the Boston Celtics and took Frank with him as the head video coordinator. He had that role until Pitino left and O'Brien became the head coach of the Celtics, naming Frank as an assistant. As a youth, Vogel attended basketball camps and encountered an instructor who taught him if he believed in something and put his mind to it, he could accomplish anything. The instructor used spinning a basketball on his finger as an example and then spun it on a toothbrush. Frank practiced and practiced the same trick until he, too, accomplished it and brushed his teeth with the toothbrush while spinning the basketball on the end of it. That skill earned him, as a 13year-old, a national television appearance on "Late Night With David Letterman" in the Stupid Human Tricks segment. It was forbearer of the perseverance that has made Frank one of the rising young stars in coaching. Frank and his wife, Jenifer, have two daughters, Alexa and Arianna. An avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan, his hobbies include spending time with his children, golf, movies and backyard barbeques.

In five appearances this season, he averaged 5.4 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0-.6 assists per game. He came off the bench in all five games, averaging 14.8 mpg. Despite logging a season-low nine and a half minutes, he led the Indiana bench with eight points on 3-5 FG, 1-3 3-pt FG and 1-2 FT at Toronto, 3/1.
