The Executive Board, with their renewed energy commenced the session with the GSL. The day saw an intensive argumentative session despite the non-lustrous and a pompous start. Not to mention there were some plaguing and horrifying moments when the Delegates were indecisive of the policies of their own countries. The Delegate of China never seemed to have finished her stance and also had confusing views of cognizance given to the SNC by her country. Similar was the situation of the Delegate of USA, who was apparently uncertain about the stance of his country on the favorability of provision of aids to Syria. To further add to his agony, the star-crossed delegate of USA was always disrupted by his fellow delegates and even by the Executive Board. If this was just not enough the Delegate of USA was not even aware of the current geographical and political position of the President of his own country (Heard about a word called research delegate?). The Council broke into a sense of amusement mixed with alarm due to the intervention of a monkey
outside the windows of the Council. However, no monkey-business is tolerated in the authoritarian walls of the Security Council and in regard to that the council resumed its proceedings without further wasting the time. The Council later moved into an unmoderated caucus which saw a lot of confusion (somethings never just lose their grip!).Eventually, it seemed like the cordiality between the Delegates of USA and UK was at stake due to the conflicting policies of their respective countries. After some time the Council broke for tea and an enhanced debate resumed once the delegates were all fed (Now we know what was barring them from unleashing their true self!). Filled up to brim, the Delegate of DPR Korea started the proceedings again by bringing up on the floor the topic Humanitarian crisis in Syria and outrageously spoke against the other nations. There were several moments infected with genuine humor and strong debate. The stance of Delegate of France was not taken seriously by the Council only
because he made a ghastly mistake of saying that the people are dying again and again! The Delegate of Peoples Republic of China asked the delegate of USA to stop playing the mommy act and actually help other countries while it owes a huge debt to China. The session had its own set of very productive moments like when the Delegate of India proposed a genuine solution of providing education to the Syrian population as education is the ultimate answer. During the session, the Committee lost its agenda and the chairperson had to list out all contents that were still to be discussed. This opened the unexplored grounds for debate and a relevant issue pertaining to Military Intervention of Nations in Syria was brought up but the Council failed to reach a just, balanced and neutral conclusion. With such battles raging within the council what becomes of it and whether or not it will reach a just and a unified decision is yet to be seen. - Sana Parvez
The press is more important than the politicians. But it is important only if it is free. For example in a country, the press has not fought that the television should not be government owned, that the radio should not be government owned. They should be public enterprises. Then the press can fight for individuals who have no power, but the press can give them great power.
