The 1st prize winning project is essentially an ecofriendly method using a Bioreactor to decolorize and reuse 99% of textile effluent by using agricultural wastes and potential micro-organisms. The seventh edition of the most sought after event by engineering students across the country: we have received 138 entries initially for TechTop 2012 National Innovation Contest. 15 colleges were shortlisted for the final and they have showcased their path breaking prototypes at the exhibition. TechTop was inaugurated by Dr. V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Executive Vice President, Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE). The awards ceremony was also attended by Shri K C Chandrasekharan Nair, Secretary & Registrar T-TBI, Shri Rajesh M Nair, Founder & CTO degree control Inc USA, Dr. K.K. Ramachandran, Member secretary , KSCSTE, Sri Satish Babu, Chair IEEE Kerala Section and Director, ICFOSS, Technopark, and Shri.Moossa C Kandy, GM, Degree C & Co-ordinator, TechTop, Dr. Ajith Prabhu, Joint Direcetor-KSCSTE and Prof. V.K. Damodaran, Director General, INGCORE, Trivandrum & Hanzhou, Chairman, Center for Environment & Development, UNIDO International Energy Consultant.

The second prize comprising of Rs50,000 sponsored by KSCSTE was won by Rajdhani College of Engineering & Management, Odisha for the project on Possible construction materials adding sequestration of co2 to combat greenhouse effect . The project is to produce eco-friendly cementing materials from Fly ash generated from thermal power plants. The Innovator Mr. Chandan Kumar prepared a construction material which will use bulk quantity of ash generated from thermal power plant and it will also absorb CO2 efficiently from the atmosphere with strength properties completely comparable to Portland cement.

The colleges that contested for the coveted Degree C award of Rupees One lakh include Indian Institute Technology, Delhi; Sahrdaya College of Engineering & Technology, Kodakara, Kerala; Amrita School of Engineering, Kerala; Rajdhani Engineering College, Odisha, Saveetha Engineering College, Tamil Nadu; Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kerala; College of Engineering, Chengannur; Sree Chithra Thirunal College of Engineering, Trivandrum, Kerala etc. Tec hT op 20 1 2: Consolation prizes echT hTop 201 Speech bee by College of Engineering Chengannur, Kerala and Experimental Analysis of a single cylinder diesel engine using bio diesel from waste cooking oil under variable compression ratio by St Josephs College of Engineering , Kerala won the consolation prizes.

Tec o IIT hT , Delhi op 20 12: 3rd Prize goes t to echT IIT, hTop 201
The third prize of Rs 30,000 sponsored by TCS was won by Indian Institute of Technology Delhi for its project Developing next generation MRI Viewers for automatic detection and analysis of Brain Tumors, empowering the current diagnosis with reduced manual errors and increased efficiency while saving time and money. The team consisted of Mr.Sudhanshu Shekhar and Ms. Soniya Goyal from IIT Delhi.

MoU signed with Caledonian College of Engineering, Oman


Technopark TBI and Caledonian College of Engineering, a University College in Oman has signed a Memorandum of Understanding which has its objectives to create an entrepreneurial eco system for the Oman College. As part of this the TBI will provide technical assistance and guidance to establish, develop and promote a centre for creativity and innovation at Caledonian college in Sultanate of Oman. Caledonian College of Engineering (CCE) is the leading private higher education institution providing high quality technological education for the Sultanate of Oman and the region in general. This will also enable CCE to collaborate with Technopark TBI based companies to establish business network training on Oman. T-TBI will arrange professional development relevant to innovation and entrepreneurship in Caledonian College for its faculty and students. As per this MoU T-TBI & CCE will also be offering Training, special short courses and consultancy services to the industries and commerce in Oman for establishing Innovation Centers. The MoU was signed by Dr. K C Chandrashekharan Nair, CFO, Technopark and Secretary & Registrar, Technopark TBI and Prof. K.P. Ramachandran, Associate Dean for PG & Research, Caledonian College in the presence of Ms. Annie Moses, Administrative Officer- T-TBI, Ms. Surya Thankom and Mr. Sreejith.S, Technical Officers, T-TBI.

On July 20th in connection with TechTop 2012 a TechQuiz (A Science Quiz) was Conducted for School 1 Prize Students at Technopark, Trivandrum. Mr. R Narayanan, former Vice president (Learning and Development) of TCS was the quiz master. Students from Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vazhuthacaud won the 1st Prize. Students from Holy Angels School, Nanthencode won the second Prize and Arya Central School, Pattom won the Third Prizes The prizes were 3 Prize 2 Prize sponsored by Degree Controls Inc.

Mozambique Delegat es visits T -TBI Delegates TA delegation from Republic of Mozambique visited T-TBI with the objective of studying the success model of Technopark TBI and to explore possible ways of association. The Mozambicans are planning to establish a Technology Business Incubator to spot and nurture Technology developments in their country with the support of Department of Scientific and Industrial Research Government of India. Dr.R.R.Abhyankar, Advisor, Govt. of India to Mozambique lead the Team to Kerala. The delegation consisting of Ms Roda Nuvunga Luis, Deputy National Director, Ministry of Science & Technology, Pedro Desanta Maria Tomo and Gilbert Roman, Scientists from Mozambique University held fruitful discussion with Technopark TBI Officials.
