LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) support is now available for the Pi4700e print controller. LDAP is an Internet protocol that e-mail programs use to look up contact information from a server. LDAP eliminates the need to input the entire e-mail address in order to scan to e-mail. With LDAP, users input a few letters of the name or address of the desired e-mail recipient and press Start Search. The controller then performs a real time search of the LDAP enabled e-mail server for possible matches then allowing the user to select the desired address from the list of possible matches. In addition to LDAP support the Pi4700e Phase 2 System Software adds the ability to scan to the HDD of the controller, with scan retrieval via the new Pi4700e Network Twain Driver. The optional Hard-Disk Drive Item Number 4623-441 must be added to the controller for support of this function. The following updates will be necessary to allow the Pi4700e and the Di470 to be compatible and support the functionality added by the Phase 2 System Software. 1) The firmware of the copier must be updated to the latest version available on Technical Service Bulletin number 4268a. 2) The Pi4700e System Software must be updated to version 3.0. The update can be carried out using PageScope Light, sending the file to the Pi4700e using the maintenance tab. This method of updating the print controller firmware is the same as that for the Pi5501 and Pi3502. Complete step-by-step instructions are available on Technical Service Bulletin 3965. The Pi4700e firmware file is attached to this bulletin on the PartnerLink Web site for download. The attached file name is md2sownv300. 3) The NIC firmware must also be updated to version 6.32A. The firmware for the NIC is updated using the two utilities attached to this bulletin. The IPX Flash Up is used for updating the NIC connected on Novell networks and the TCPIP FTPDL is used when connected to TCP/IP networks. Contained in the NIC utility folder are the steps to use the download utility to carry out the firmware update. The NIC firmware file is attached to this bulletin on the PartnerLink Web site for download. The attached file name is dls632a.udp.
