• All competitors are required to provide either a photocopy or an original of each item being performed, for
use by the adjudicator. Photocopies should be marked “ADJUDICATOR’S COPY”. Competitors performing
from memory should provide the ORIGINAL for the adjudicator, if not being used in performance.
• Adjudicator’s copies must also be labelled with the section number and the competitor number, as per
program, in the top right corner of the front page before being handed to the music collator.
• Photocopies must be stapled or pinned together. Please mark any cuts or repeats NOT being observed.
• Only originals or licensed copies will be returned. Unlicensed Adjudicator photocopies will be destroyed,
as is required under Copyright law.
• Venues this year are the Redland Performing Arts Centre and Cleveland Uniting Church (Part 1):
Capalaba State College, Cleveland District State High School Performance Space and the Sheldon
College Performing Arts Centre (Part 2).
• Admission to all venues in the Redlands Music Eisteddfod is FREE for audience members aged 5 years
and under. (NOTE CHANGE)
• All performers of any age have FREE ADMISSION to sessions in which they are competing.

AGE ELIGIBILITY: As at 1st January 2009 (ie. the age turned in 2008)
The scholarship winners will be decided by the committee after consultation with adjudicators and will
be based solely on performances given during the 2009 Redlands Eisteddfod.
NOTE: To be eligible for either scholarship competitors must perform in a Championship Section.
Check the relevant part of the schedule for championship prerequisites, where applicable.
Conditions: One year after the scholarship is awarded, the scholarship holders are required to submit
to the committee a report on progress made in further music studies and how the scholarship has
assisted in these studies. Scholarship winners are ineligible to apply for a scholarship for the next two
years, except that a Junior Scholarship winner may enter the OPEN section the following year.
OPEN SCHOLARSHIP – competitors may be of any age, but must be amateur in status, as outlined in
the conditions of entry, to be eligible.

PIANO SECTIONS
Competitors may choose to use a Grand or an Upright piano. Both will be provided.
Piano Solos, Duets and Championships will be held from Monday 18th May to Wed 20th May at the
Redland Performing Arts Centre Auditorium, Middle St Cleveland.
Concerto/Sonata sections will be held on Wednesday 20th May (from early evening)
PIANO CHAMPIONSHIPS
Conditions: Competitors in championship sections must perform in at least one other solo piano section in order to be eligible.
TWO contrasting pieces, which must be from different compositional periods/styles, are to be performed (any degree of difficulty but
excluding Jazz/Pop/Latin styles). Competitors may enter only ONE Championship Section.
Entry Fees: $15.00 Awards: Trophies 1st, 2nd, 3rd places and Cash (Senior $100, $50, $25. Intermediate/Junior $50, $30, $20)
PIANO ENSEMBLES
NOTE: There is no separate piano accompaniment section in this year’s Eisteddfod. Instead, one student accompanist, who has
performed in any section (including ensembles) will be awarded the Accompanists’ Guild of Queensland cash prize of $30.00. There
is no additional entry fee required in order to be considered for this award.

CONDITIONS
1.61 Intermediate Pipe Organ - 15 years and under (at 1.1.09)

Special Conditions: (see also general conditions for Music sections, pages 5 and 6)
Competitors must perform two contrasting works from different compositional periods. One work must be from
the Baroque era (approx.1600 to 1750). Pedals must be used. There is no time limit.
Competition will take place on the two manual and pedal instrument (61/61/30) in the Cleveland Uniting
Church, Passage Street, Cleveland. Full specifications will be emailed to all competitors upon receipt of entry.
Up to a total of one hour (tbc) will be allocated for private rehearsal on the instrument by each competitor in
the week prior to competition. A Suitable time will be negotiated with each competitor.
Immediately prior to performing, each competitor (without assistance) will be allowed up to 5 minutes to
program and test preset combinations for their performance. A page turner is permitted but registration
changes may only be made by the competitor.
Sections may be combined depending upon the number of entries. A combined section would be classed as
‘Open age’.

Competition Date: Monday 1st June 2009 commencing at 5.00pm (tbc).
Any instrument. ONE movement (does NOT have to be Allegro) of a Concerto or Sonata, with piano accompaniment where
required. PLEASE SPECIFY INSTRUMENT ON THE ENTRY FORM. A second piano will be provided for accompaniment of
piano concertos. This section will be adjudicated by three adjudicators (strings, piano, and brass/woodwind.)

will be held on Sunday 2nd August at Cleveland District State High School Performance Space . (PART 2 of the Eisteddfod)
Some percussion instruments may be provided. See program for details.

SCHOOL CONCERT BANDS two or three contrasting pieces – observe time limits Awards: Trophies and Ribbons
7.01 Primary JUNIOR Concert Bands (up to 18 months tuition) TIME LIMIT: 6 min
7.02 Primary Concert Bands (Year 7 & under) SMALL (up to 20 performers) TIME LIMIT: 8 min
7.03 (A& B) Primary Concert Bands (Year 7 & under) LARGE (21 or more performers) TIME LIMIT: 8 min
If there are many entries, this section will be split, with the competitors selected by draw.
Each will be judged as a complete section rather as heats with finals.
7.04 Middle School Level Concert Bands (Year 9 & under) TIME LIMIT: 8 min
7.05 Secondary Concert Bands B (music performed must not be higher than level 2.5) TIME LIMIT: 10 min
7.06 Secondary Concert Bands A (no more than one piece may be lower than level 3) TIME LIMIT: 12 min

VOCAL SECTIONS
Vocal Solo Sections will be held at Redland Performing Arts Centre Middle St Cleveland from the 23rd – 30th May
(where possible sections will be scheduled to minimize clashes with “Creative Generation” rehearsals)
Small Vocal Ensembles will be held at Capalaba State College, School Road, Capalaba between the 28th and 30th July
Please note that unless the song is specifically written as unaccompanied, accompaniment should be used. In Pop/Jazz/Blues sections, backing
CDs may be used. In accordance with copyright regulations, these should be originals. Otherwise, accompaniment should be piano or one
other acoustic instrument
Definition: Restricted section – the competitor has never before won a 1st, 2nd or 3rd placing in any vocal solo section in any Eisteddfod.
Honesty is expected.

VOCAL SOLO - POPULAR/JAZZ/BLUES SONG (Accompaniment may be acoustic or backing CD. In accordance with copyright
regulations, these should be originals or licensed copies. Otherwise, accompaniment should be piano or one other acoustic instrument.
A backing CD (in a case or envelope) must be labelled with Section, Competitor and Track numbers. DO NOT affix extra labels of any
kind to the CD surface! Note that some formats, such as MP3/4, may not work on all players. These should be avoided. Competitors
may bring their own player, however a portable CD player and operator will be provided. No voice amplification is permitted.
NOTE: Teachers, parents and students should pay due care to the choosing of appropriate material for this section, especially for
younger competitors. In addition, any competitor who has chosen songs containing material considered by any member of the
committee to be offensive to the audience, will be disqualified, and may not be permitted to perform.
Note: VOCAL SOLO - COMEDY/NOVELTY SONG Sections have been removed from the Schedule again this year.

VOCAL ARIA
Note: If there are insufficient entries this Section will be cancelled and entry fees refunded.
One aria from opera or oratorio. Consideration will be given by the adjudicator to the suitability of choice for the competitor’s voice type.
Preliminary recitative is optional. NOTE: Competitors are asked to bring a short printed paragraph outlining the role of the character which
performs this particular aria, and state briefly how the aria relates to the overall opera/oratorio. This is purely for the interest and enjoyment of the
audience and will not affect the adjudication. This will be read by the MC prior to the performance. Entry Fee: $15.00
8.61 13 years & over Awards: Trophies 1st, 2nd, 3rd places and Cash ($100, $50, $25)
$5 extra entry fee required to be eligible. Be sure to include this section on the entry form.
Note: No extra songs are required to be performed.

SMALL VOCAL ENSEMBLES INCLUDING BARBERSHOP QUARTETS 3 – 12 singers Awards: Trophies and Ribbons
Two own choice songs. (Must show part-singing – accompanied or a cappella)

CHOIRS
Choral sections will be held at Capalaba State College,
School Rd Capalaba on Tuesday 28th July, Wednesday 29th July and
Thursday 30th July (PART 2 of the Eisteddfod)
ACCOMPANISTS: Students accompanying choirs are automatically eligible for the Accompanists’ Guild of Queensland
Award ($30 cash). No additional entry fee is required for this Award. The winner will be selected from all student accompanists who
perform at this year’s Eisteddfod, including solo and ensemble sections.
EACH SCHOOL CHOIR is asked to choose either the Restricted, Non-Restricted or Championship sections.
School choirs may also choose to enter the OPEN sections.
COMMUNITY CHOIRS may enter the Senior Primary or the Secondary Championships (subject to age restrictions)
as well as the OPEN and Community Sections.
NOTE that a folksong is no longer a requirement for championship sections, and that part-singing is now
optional for Senior Primary Choirs.
CHAMPIONSHIP SECTION (SCHOOLS OR COMMUNITY CHOIRS 12 YRS & UNDER - ages as at 1st Jan 2009)
Part-singing in at least one song. Awards: Trophies and Ribbons

In order to ensure that the eisteddfod is a positive, worthwhile experience for children/young
people, as organizers of the Eisteddfod we have the right to -
• Disqualify any child/young person or group of children/young people from the competition for
failing to comply with the code of conduct above.
• Disqualify any child/young person whose parent/carer or teacher has not complied with the code of
conduct above.
• Raise any concerns with child/young person, parent or teacher or volunteer.
• Expect that concerns of the children/young people, parents or teachers will be voiced as soon as they
arise so that they can be dealt with immediately.
• Refuse entry to venues any child/young person, parent or teacher or volunteer who has previously
behaved inappropriately according to the code of conduct.
• Remove any volunteer from duty who has behaved in any way contrary to the code of conduct.
