Requirements are based on 40 fabric width. The pattern has been simplified for ease of construction. BLOCK SIZE: 13 QUILT SIZE: 42x 42

Tropical sun and torrential rain that define life on St. Lucia inspired Pam Roccos Caribbean Houses. The double chimneys are a nod to traditional North American house quilts; the rest is pure island style. Enjoy making Roccos quilt then study the homes in your neighborhood and design a quilt for your setting.

1 Wash, starch and press fabrics.

Select the fabrics you will use for the blocks and sort these into 4 stacks one for each block. Photocopy or trace 4 unit 1

foundations, 4 unit 2 foundations and 5 unit 4 foundations. Make template C/Cr. Cut the patches listed in the materials and cutting box and shown in the rotary cutting diagrams. l

fabric, foundation piece a unit 1. Set aside. Foundation piece a unit 2. Join the unit 1 and unit 2. Set aside. Referring to Fig. 1,H lay a B from stack 1 on top of the A from stack 1, right sides up. Cut diagonal lines as shown. Remove the portion of A beneath the B and join the B to A. Similarly and referring to Fig. 2, join the remaining B to the A. Trim the A/B to 14 x 5. Referring to Fig. 3, trim the left end of the A/B at the specified angle. Similarly, trim the right end of the A/B. Join the C to the left end and join the Cr to the right end to make a roof. Join the roof to the unit 1/unit 2. Set aside. Referring to the block piecing diagram, join 4 Ds and an E. Join the D/E to the roof to make 1 block. In the same manner and working with the remaining stacks of fabric, make 3 more blocks. l
