Room 204 Update April 7, 2013 Spring Street School Mrs.

Liportos class

General Information The students have the opportunity to be part of a poetry contest for the upcoming Fourth Grade Celebration. Students that want to participate can write a poem about Spring Street School. One poem from each class will be selected to be read by the author at the Celebration. More information can be found on our classroom blog. I have heard from a few of you that your students will not be in school at the end of this week due to vacation. Any students that are not going to be in on Friday or earlier should plan on turning in their reading logs and homework before they leave if possible. Some of the topics the kids wrote about are friendship, peace, nightmares, art, etc. The poems will be on display on the bulletin board in the fourth grade hallway. We will be working on haikus this week in writing to once again focus in on powerful word choice. Language Arts This week we will continue to work on creating images while reading. We will

reinforce this comprehension skill through our whole class reading and in small guided reading groups. Math This week we will be multiplying and dividing with decimals. These are not skills that we expect the students to master in the fourth grade and simply serve as an introduction to the topic. It is my goal to be through with unit 9 by the end of this week.
