ISSME is an ISO 9001 certified International Non-Government Organisation, with its headquarters at New Delhi, the capital of India. It works with members, affiliates and partners across the world for the promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). ISSME brings together policy makers, facilitators, experts, educators, researchers and small & medium-sized enterprises from around the world. They use this platform to share their experience, knowledge and expertise in their respective fields.

Since inception, ISSME has been continuously striving to collaborate or associate with agencies/ organizations working towards the cause and development of SMEs and putting in place considered efforts to better serve the SME community. As part of ISSME's endeavour to enhance the effective global networking and synergize the efforts of like-minded institutions/organizations, we are keen to work in tandem with similar organisation on issues of mutual interest to buttress the vibrant SME sector across the globe.

Acknowledging that sharing of knowledge, experiences and best practices is the way forward, the conference will provide a global platform to policy makers, representatives of international organisations including the United Nations and key economic entities, members of the SME sector, trade and industry associations. The theme, Fostering International Linkages for SMEs Development, is in keeping with this belief. The plenary sessions and suggested tracks for the parallel sessions/workshops shall endeavour to take this theme forward so that the conference can document the challenges as well as the opportunities the SME sector should familiarise itself with. The conference intends to go beyond speeches and discussions by providing participants with a unique opportunity to form global networks and meet new contacts who can drive their business in future. It is perhaps apt that the Conference is being held in India, which many believe will be among the future leaders when it comes to driving global development. A large part of the credit for the Indian growth story over the past few decades goes to the creativity, innovation and resilience of the country's SME sector.

As world economies, particularly the developing countries, try to meet the needs of SMEs in a globalized world, the ISSME is organising a world conference to assess how effective they are in terms of policies, support structures and initiatives to promote greater cooperation for optimum results. ISSME's World Conference on small and medium-sized enterprise development is a major International event. It is designed to attract Government Ministries & Departments, national & international organisations, SME support organisations, banks & financial institutions, etc. responsible for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The conference will discuss policies, strategies, support initiatives and institutional cooperation needed to strengthen the SME sector and prepare it for new challenges as well as opportunities. www.issme.org

ISSME has instituted the ISSME Global Awards as recognition to the outstanding achievements/contribution of global businesses, entrepreneurs, eminent personalities, institutions or organisations to the development and promotion of Small and Medium Enterprises.

The Award aims at motivating them to achieve a higher premier global awards in the SME sector level of performance in the provision of services to SMEs and intends to promote the visibility and diffusion of success stories. Since a globally accepted definition of a SME cannot be provided, each applicant for these Awards will have to refer to the one applied in the context where it operates.

GLOBAL AWARDS

These awards will be presented at the ISSME World Conference 2013. Each of these has a specific theme and consists of a Trophy and a Citation along with a Certificate and is presented at a Global Awards Evening Dinner. The ISSME Global Awards Evening Celebrating the Best of the Best in Small and Medium Enterprise sector gives you the perfect opportunity to connect, network and engage. For more information on Award Nominations, please contact the IWC 2013 Secretariat at globalawards@iwc13.org The deadline for submitting nominations for the 2013 ISSME Global Awards is August 3, 2013.

HOW WILL APPLICATIONS BE EVALUATED? Applications will be evaluated in a two-phase process.

First, the ISSME Secretariat, supported by experts, will screen all applications so as to decide those who are admissible for evaluation (those which do not meet formal and content requirements will be rejected). Then it will proceed with technical evaluation.

This will consist first of the evaluation of individual applications, then of the selection of a restricted number of them e.org so as to make up a short-list including those which better met the evaluation requirements. Secondly, short-listed applications will be submitted to the JURY for final evaluation and selection of the winners.

JURY
The Awards Jury comprises six members and one chairperson. They are experts from the SME sector worldwide and are drawn from government departments, international support organisations, financial institutions, NGOs as well as academic and research institutions working in the sector. The Jury evaluates the nominations received from across the world and selects the Awardees in consultation with the President and Secretary General of ISSME.

Persons/ institutions/ organisations of eminence can be nominated by an individual/ organisation/ government for all the above categories of ISSME Global Awards.

Depending on the award category (see list of awards given earlier), the nominee should have a minimum of 1-15 years of sustained and dedicated service to SMEs at local, national, regional or international level. Those nominated for specific Awards should have significant accomplishments in those areas. In other words, they need to have demonstrated exceptional effort, innovation, initiative, leadership and excellence in providing service to the SME sector.

If you wish to send in a nomination, please provide the name along with qualifications, accomplishments and supporting documents wherever possible. Testimonies and recommendations, if provided, will help the Awards Jury during the screening process.

AWARD CATEGORIES The Awards will be presented in diverse categories, including:

ISSME Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to institutions and individuals for their outstanding contribution in promoting small businesses for a minimum period of 10 - 15 years. ISSME Best Supportingeee Organisation Award is given to an organisation which has provided the best support for growth and development through policies and programmes over a period of 1-5 years. ISSME Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award - recognise the best youth entrepreneur in the sector during the year. ISSME Creativity and Innovation Award - In keeping with the belief that innovation and creativity is the key to the survival and future growth of the SME sector worldwide, ISSME has instituted the Creativity and Innovation Award to reward outstanding contributions by institutions/ organisations over a period of 1-5 years. ISSME Judges Choice Award - is selected from among the exhibitors at the conference.

ISSME Best Project of the Year Award recognise the best in the sector in this sphere during the year. ISSME Green Entrepreneurship Award recognises effective and efficient use of green energy and green technology in the SME sector. This includes processes which reduce use of substances and/or material which can harm the environment and measures which result in conservation of resources. ISSME Small Business Governance Award is given to an organization or institutions for encouraging adoption and implementation of corporate governance system in SMEs over a period of 1-5 years.
