Primary Sources Grand Coulee Dam and the Columbia Basin Project.

Spokane: Shaw & Borden Companies, 1935. Print. This government pamphlet had many pictures on the construction of Grand Coulee, which I used on my slideshow. [Photographs Various Photographs] Cage 40, Frank Arthur Banks Papers, . Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections, Washington State University Libraries, Pullman, WA. This collection of photographs by Frank Banks, was the Bureau of Reclamation Engineer. I used many pictures from his collection, mainly of Opening Day and some other photographs about building the dam. Jones, Fred O. Grand Coulee from "Hell to Breakfast." Portland: Binfords & Mort, 1947. Print. Fed O Jones was an engineer for the Grand Coulee Dam. This picture book had information on the power and irrigation benefits that the Dam gave. It also had many intriguing pictures (such as sheep crossing the Grand Coulee Dam). Weil, Fred M. A Curb-Side Story of Grand Coulee Dam Slumbering Riches. N.p.: n.p., 1938. Print. This "book" (a collection of newspaper articles) was very useful for putting in articles into my pictures. It had useful information about the media-side of the construction. This primary-source pamphlet that I looked over in the WSU archives provided a good timeline of the building of the Grand Coulee Dam, which helped me in my "Building the Dam" section. This map also had a back page, filled with ads for destinations near in the Spokane Area. I used this map in my "Irrigating the desert" section. Secondary Sources Clark, Robert. River of the west: stories from the Columbia. San Francisco: HarperCollins West, 1995. Print. This book about the Columbia River spanned from native times to the damming of the River. From this book, I used the quotes of Franklin Delano Roosevelt in my website. Flom, Eric L. The first article in 1918 about the proposal of the construction of a dam on the Columbia by Rufus Woods was the very article that started speculation about such a dam. This book was a very in-depth novel on the Grand Coulee Dam from it's conception to modern-day. I took some information from different chapters (for example, "Water comes to the Columbia Basin") which were mainly involved with the irrigation and electrical gains/negative effects on the region. This book had many pictures mainly involved with the building of the Grand Coulee Dam, and some maps of the area. I used this source for pictures on the completed dam. This report had a useful map that I used in my "building the dam" section.
