THREE CHANNEL INPUT/OUTPUT UNIT

SUPPLY OPTIONS The XP95 Three Channel Input/Output Unit is available in the following options: in a plastic enclosure in a plastic enclosure and with built-in bi-directional short-circuit isolator as a printed circuit board (PCB) as a PCB and with built-in bi-directional short-circuit isolator Part numbers for each option are shown in the table on page 3. FUNCTION The XP95 Three Channel Input/Output Unit provides three voltage-free, single pole, change-over relay outputs and three monitored switch inputs. FEATURES The XP95 Three Channel Input/Output Unit supervises one or more normally-open switches on each of the three inputs. It is set to return an analogue value of 4 in the event of an open or short-circuit fault and 16 during normal operation. The status of the inputs is reported by means of three input bits. The change-over contacts of each relay are operated by three command bits. If the model with a short-circuit isolator is ordered the Input/Output Units will be unaffected by loop shortcircuits on either loop input or output.

For further information on Apollo short-circuit isolators, see PP2090. ELECTRICAL CONSIDER ATIONS The XP95 Three Channel Input/Output Unit is loop powered and operates at 1728V DC with protocol voltage pulses of 59V. PROTOCOL COMPATIBILITY The unit will operate only with control equipment using the Apollo protocol. Check with the control panel manufacturer for compatibility. The unit may also be used to replace earlier Series 90 Three Channel Input/Output units.

PROTOCOL BIT USAGE The control equipment transmits a 10-bit message to the Three Channel Input/Output Unit: The output (or forward command) bits from the control panel have the following function: Output bits When an output bit is set to logic 1 on two or more consecutive pollings, the associated relay changes state to the set condition. The bit must be set to logic 1 as long as it is desired to keep the relay in its set state. The relay will remain latched in the set state until the output bit is set to logic 0 on two or more consecutive pollings. Removal of loop power will cause a set relay to reset. During normal operation, the relay changes state within 0.1 second of receipt of a command. Output bit 2 operates Relay 3 Output bit 1 operates Relay 2 Output bit 0 operates Relay 1 The seven bits which are then transmitted by the control panel correspond to the address (as set on the DIL switch) of the device to be polled. A response message is then sent by the Input/Output Unit to the control equipment: The interrupt bit is always set to logic 0. The analogue value bits are set to return a value of 4 during open or short-circuit faults on any of the input channels and 16 when the switch is open or closed. Full details are shown in the table opposite. The input bits have the following function: Input bits are used to report the status of the three monitored switch inputs. During normal operation, ie, when the switch is open, and in the event of a fault (open or short-circuit), input bits are set to 0. When the switch is closed, the relevant input bit is set to 1. Details of input conditions are given in the table opposite. Input bit 2 reects the status of Input Channel 3 Input bit 1 reects the status of Input Channel 2 Input bit 0 reects the status of Input Channel 1 The type bits are used to identify the type of unit responding. The type code of the Three Channel Input/Output Unit is 010 00 (bits 2, 1, 0, 4, 3 respectively). Bits 2, 1 and 0 are sent immediately after the input bits and bits 4 and 3 are sent in the XP protocol extension.

The Three Channel Input/Output Unit sends seven bits of data to conrm its address and then one bit to indicate that the device can use the XP95 protocol (XP95 ag). The alarm ag is not placed by the Input/Output Unit. The next two bits returned by the device are bits 4 and 3 of the type code. The next ve bits are the second block of analogue value data bits and are not used by the Three Channel Input/Output Unit. The parity bit is set to 1 or 0 such that the device will always respond with an even number of data bits. The nal seven bits are the alarm/interrupt address and are not used by the Three Channel Input/Output Unit. MECHANICAL CONSTRUCTION The Three Channel Input/Output Unit is supplied in an IP66 grey polycarbonate box for surface mounting. It is also available as a PCB only. The box is mounted at its corners with access to the xing screws through the lid attachment holes. Ten 16mm/21mm and six 22mm/38mm dual diameter cable entry knockouts are provided. To preserve the integrity of the box, suitable glands should be used when terminating cables. Ten LEDs, six red and four yellow, are tted to the PCB. All LEDs except the isolator LED can be disabled to conserve loop current. For each channel, one red LED is illuminated to indicate that the relay is set; a second red LED is illuminated to indicate that the switch input is closed and a yellow LED is illuminated to indicate an open or short-circuit fault. A separate yellow LED is illuminated whenever the built-in isolator has sensed a short-circuit loop fault.
