Lesson plan

Teacher: Onos Iuliana-Dorina Date: March, 7th Grade: 7th Grade ( L1 ) School: Nedelcu Chercea Time: 50 minutes Textbook: Pathway to English, English Scrapbook, Oxford University Press Unit: Wheels Lesson: He said he loved trains ( Indirect Speech Reported wh- questions in Present Tense ) Lesson aims: to arouse the students interest and get them involved into the topic to practise speaking - retelling past events/experiences, talking about preferred means of transport to practise reading for achieving a task to introduce reported wh- questions in Present Tense to report questions

Materials: textbook Activity 1: Warm-up Aims: to stir the students attention to introduce the students into the atmosphere of the lesson

Procedure: Organisation of the class: The teacher greets the students, the students greet the teacher, the teacher checks if someone is missing. The students are asked several questions about weather and their mood in order to create a pleasant atmosphere in the classroom.

Interaction: T.-Ss. Ss.-T. Time: 5 minutes

Activity 2: Checking the previous knowledge Aim: to check the previous knowledge

Procedure: The teacher checks the homework. The students had to match some words to their jumbled definitions. Interaction: T.-Ss. Ss.-T. Time: 5 minutes

Activity 3: Speaking Aim: to get the students involved into the topic to practise speaking retelling past events/experiences, asking and answering

Procedure: Lead-in: the students answer some questions : Where did you go last holiday? How did you get there? How long did it take? How did you feel on the way? Interaction: S S ( pair work ) Time: 10 minutes

Activity 4 : Reading Aims: to practise reading for achieving a task

to introduce reported wh- questions in Present Tense Procedure: The students answer the question: Which is your favourite means of transport? Why? They are told that they will read two articles from two different magazines in which they will find an Oxford students opinions of different means of transport. The teacher writes the title of the lesson on the blackboard: He said he loved trains (this is what the student said). The students read the text in order to find the answers to some questions ( who was interviewed in the first article, who in the second article and what each article is about). In pairs, the students have to find three pieces of information that are in the first article, but not in the second, one piece of information that is in the second article, but not in the first. The students look at the first question in both articles and say how they are different ( the verb form, the word order). They have already been introduced to reported statements and should know the differences when turning into indirect speech. The teacher writes the two questions and the rules on the blackboard . 1. Why are there so many bikes?-direct question 2. I began my interview by asking him why there were so many bikes.-reported question The students find four more reported questions in the second article. Interaction: S.-S. ( pair work ) Time: 15 minutes

Activity 5: Grammar practice Aim: to report questions interviewing people Procedure: Role-play: The students work in pairs to ask and answer questions. One is the reporter and the other is Matt, the Oxford student. Then, they have to report the reporters questions. The reported questions are written on the blackboard. The teacher corrects the mistakes, encourages the students, offers feed-back.

The teacher gives home - assignment : Write a magazine article based on your partners answers to the questions above. Use both reported questions and direct speech to give variety to your writing. Interaction: S.-S. (pair work ) Time: 15 minutes
