Over the next few weeks, our RCIA candidates will be participating in
CATHOLIC CHURCH
Lenten Activities
• All Fridays during Lent are days of Abstinence (no eating
meat)
• Good Friday is a day of Abstinence and Fast (no eating
between meals).
• Understated décor to emphasize the simplicity of the
season.
• Change in Mass parts -- #161-163. No “Gloria.”
• Enhanced penitential rite (Kyrie #418) and Lamb of God
(Agnus Dei #320)
• Petition response will be “Hear us Lord; hold us in your
mercy.”
• Communion: 1st song “Sanctuary.”Lyrics: Lord, prepare me
to be a sanctuary, pure and holy holy, tried and true. With
thanksgiving, I’ll be a living sanctuary for you.”
• Meditative silence before Mass and after Communion.
• Flowing water in our baptismal font will be turned off during
Holy Week.
• No coffee and donuts.
• Morning prayer will be prayed 15 minutes before all
weekday Masses.
• All are asked to remember our RCIA candidates and
catechumens in their daily prayers.
• RCIA rites of scrutiny 10am, March 22nd and 11:45am,
March 29th.
• Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on Fridays following
the 9am Mass; Benediction at 5:45pm.
• Lenten dinner each Friday at 6pm in the hall.*
• Stations of the Cross each Friday, 7pm in church.
*This Friday’s dinner is sponsored by the Senior Kids. They will be
serving macaroni and cheese with salad.
Our Lenten Penance Service will be held on Mon., April 6 at 7:00pm.

PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS
“The Rites of Scrutiny.” These Rites are celebrated to help deliver the
elect from the power of sin and Satan, to protect them against temptation,
and to give them strength in Christ, who is the Way, the Truth, and the
Life. (RCIA, 141). The Rites of Scrutiny are meant to uncover, and then
heal, all that is weak, defective, or sinful in the elects’ hearts and to bring
out through repentance all that is upright, strong, and good. One more
Scrutiny will be celebrated in the parish community on the 5th Sunday of
Lent, after the homily. The Scripture readings for the Scrutinies
ordinarily come from Cycle A of the Lectionary: the Gospel story of the
healing of the man born blind for the 2nd Scrutiny, and the Gospel story
of the raising of Lazarus for the 3rd Scrutiny. The celebrations of the
Scrutinies also remind the whole parish community of the need to reflect
on their own sins and the need for God’s help.
Don’t forget we have a wonderful nursery during the 10am Mass for
children 4 and under. The nursery is not open holiday weekends.
Parish cookbooks are available in the office during regular office hours
(7:30am-3:30pm, M-F). A bargain at just $15!
It’s time to plan for our second annual Spring Fling Family Carnival
and Fun Fest. We are looking for people to help us plan this year’s
event and get the ball rolling! Our first meeting will be Mon., March
23 at 6:30pm in the Resource Room. Please call Angela, [# omitted] or

2009 Vacation Bible School is scheduled for June 8-12 from 9am to
noon for children ages 4 thru rising 5th graders. Our theme this year is
“Crocodile Dock.” We are looking for adult and teen volunteers to help
with crafts, games, skits, decorations, as crew leaders and more. Anyone

Early notice: All men are welcome to a gathering on Sat., April 4th
beginning with the 9am mass followed by a program featuring Dr. Ruth
Queen Smith, a delicious lunch and closing reflections. We will finish
by 3:00pm. All men are welcome for this first annual event! Watch for

Dinner. Prepare a casserole (or if you don’t cook, bring fresh fruit or 2%

greatly appreciate home-cooked meals after spending hours in the

CATHOLIC WOMEN
Come and “Scrap Your Faith” with St. Catherine Croppers—a Lenten
reflection for scrapbookers each Tues. during March from 7-8:30pm in

What happens after the Resurrection? Join us each Thursday at 9:45am
in the parish hall for “Acts of the Apostles” led by Dr. Ruth Q. Smith.
We will NOT meet April 9th and 23rd.
First Friday Faith and Friends invites all women to join us on Fri.,
April 3rd at 9:45am. We will be discussing the Easter Triduum and share
a meatless lunch before leaving.
FAITH FORMATION
NO High School Rel. Ed. this Sunday, March 22. Spring Break.
It’s Back! Little Rock Scripture Study. Sign-ups for adult Bible Study
is scheduled for March 28-29 after all Masses. Paul’s Letter to the
Romans will be studied for 10 weeks from April 14-June 16 on Tuesday
nights in the Ed. Bldg. from 7-9pm. Call Dave W., 694-2050 to register

SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE
Please remember to support the Food Drive throughout Lent. The food
will be donated to Ladies of Charity and the Seton Thrift Store in
Harriman. Please purchase only items on the list, which has been chosen
for its nutritional value and its ability to be transported and stored. Food
may be brought to the narthex until Palm Sunday.
Helping Hands: We need help with rides to church for elderly
parishioners to the 8:15 and 11:45am masses primarily from the area just
north of Middlebrook Pike. If you can help with this occasionally, please

LITURGY COMMITTEE
The Children’s Choir will lead 10:00am masses on April 5th for Palm
Sunday and April 12th for Easter Sunday. We practice each Wednesday at
5:30pm in the church.
SPIRITUAL LIFE
Eucharistic Adoration will take place each Friday during March from
9:30am-6pm. To sign up for an hour or if you can’t make your regular

A Divine Mercy Celebration will take place on April 19th at 3pm in the
church. Everyone is invited. Pamphlets on Divine Mercy and the chaplet

CATHOLIC CHARITIES
Food collection volunteers are needed to assist Catholic Charities staff
working with its Greater Knoxville area shelter and food pantry

LADIES OF CHARITY
It’s time for spring cleaning! The Thrift Shop is accepting donations of
clothing, household items, small electronics, toys and books. Please call

Our Layette Program helps parents in need by providing supplies for
their newborn babies. We are in need of knitted or crocheted baby
blankets in baby colors approximately 36x36 in size.

Support Group for Caregivers and Family Members: Our mission is
to provide support for caregivers and family members of those affected
