Foreclosure Auction: The Original 211 Parcels Decreased to 159
KINGSTON, NY (April 12, 2013) The list of foreclosed properties has been modestly reduced as property owners rush to redeem their parcels prior to the Annual Public Auction of County Lands to be held April 16, 2013 at SUNY Ulster. Twenty-five percent of the original 211 properties up for auction, with unpaid taxes outstanding for three or more years, have been paid, redeemed or removed by their owners. The updated list as of Friday consists of 159 properties, ranging from a .08 acre parcel with a starting bid of $7,690 in the Village of Saugerties to a 58.9 acre parcel starting at $16,589 located in Lloyd. The Town of Saugerties continues to account for the largest number of unpaid parcels with 27. Eight (8) of the original thirty-five (35) have been redeemed. Trailing close behind is the Town of Ulster and Wawarsing with twenty-two (22) and twenty (20) parcels respectively, after a combined eleven (11) properties were redeemed; 5 from Ulster, 6 from Wawarsing. The Town of Saugerties also remains tops on the list in total dollars of unpaid taxes with the remaining twenty-seven (27) properties accounting for $857,534. This includes one parcel whose taxes have been unpaid since 1995, and represents $502,533. It is unknown if this property will ever sell because of the environmental issues associated with it, rendering it unsalable. Since the publication of the list in early April, one parcel has been deleted from the auction list in the Village of Ellenville by the Environment Protection Agency due to continued remediation of the hazardous site; two (2) properties starting auction values have been amended decreasing the starting bid value, and fifty-one (51) parcels have been redeemed totaling $1,118,269. As of April 12, 2013 the total unpaid taxes total $2,468,960. The original 2013 auction list of 211 properties represented an 8% increase from 2012 although the total of unpaid taxes fell 7% below the 2012 number This year 18 of the 20 Towns and 2 of the 3 villages located in Ulster County will have properties up for auction. .
