Nari Shakti Ko Salam 2013 POWER TO EMPOWER Udgam Women Achiever Award 2013
Udgam Charitable Trust, registered in 1997 is working on Women empowerment, Sanitation, Rural Development, etc. Nirmal Gram Puraskar - an award of GOI for the work on sanitation was received by Twenty four villages in Udgams working area. More than 1245 woman members are in 65 SHGs at Kalol block. Gujarat is a land of high spirits and positive Guajaratis are well known for their attitude towards accepting challenges. This became the reckoning reason for organizing Nari Shakti ko Salam. With this programme, Udgam proposes to organize drawing competition to sensitize people on female feticide. Female feticide is an extreme manifestation of violence against women. Female foetuses are selectively aborted after pre-natal sex determination, thus avoiding the birth of girls. As a result of selective abortion, between 35 and 40 million girls and women are missing from the Indian population. In some parts of the country, the sex ratio of girls to boys has dropped to less than 800:1,000. The United Nations has expressed serious concern about the situation. Udgam awarded 42 women from various field in last two years from Gandhinagar & Ahmedabad. This is our continuous 3rd in which we are awarding women for their valuable contribution towards society in 8 categories. These categories are Social, Entrepreneur, Journalism, Sports, Art, Culture, Health and Corporate. Along with this we are organising drawing competition on Save Girl for housewives & corporate. 1st year Dr.H.L. Trivedi, Director, Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Center, Ahmedabad was Chief Guest & Mrs. Sarswati Johari, President President, ONGC officers Mahila Samiti, was invited as Guest of Honor but Mrs. Indu Pandhi, Secretary was present, CFO of KPTL Shri Kamalkishor Jain was also present, 2nd year Chief Gueast Dr.Madhuben Nayak, Chairperson, Gujarat Red cross & Guest of Honor was Dr. Veenaben Shah, Dy.Director Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Center, Ahmedabad. 3 rd year Mrs. Anarben Patel, Managing Trustee, Gramshree Trust was chief Guest along with Ms. Meena Bhatt, Addl. Secretary, GOG and Mrs.Dharini Shukla was guest of honor of the function. Last year in 2nd Udgam Women Achievers Award we hosted launch of Breach Candy & Jaslok Hospital, Mumbais Consultant Gynec-Endocrinologist Dr. Geeta Pandyas book Know Your Breast Gujarati version. This book provides candid, indispensable advice on breast-care, thorough every stage of development-from early menstruation to menopause and beyond. All media Covered UWA and major dignitaries from Gandhinagar was present at Udgam Women Achiever Award.
