Quote of the week:
The international telephone dialing code for Antarctica is 672. The Main Library at Indiana University sinks over an inch every year because when it was built, engineers failed to take into account the weight of all the books that would occupy the building. The Neanderthal's brain was bigger than yours is.

No jokes allowed
The Chile Under-20 squad were fined in 2002 for laughing. The countrys FA decided to punish the players as someone told a joke which caused the whole squad to fall about laughing. The coach complained as he struggled to regain authority and control after the joke had been told.

Honey! Im busy!
A trainer was sent off in 2005 when he answered his mobile phone in the middle of the pitch. Dave Nicholls was treating a player on the pitch when his phone started to ring in his pocket. Without thinking he naturally answered and an angry referee sent the trainer off which meant he was restricted from the dug out for the rest of the game.

COACHES BOX
U14 Youth Match Report Historic Game, Historic Goal: Cocoach Dave Sayers called it soon after hearing that the U14s had lost their opener v Glenorchy by 0-7 last week. He predicted that wed win our next game against our clubs fiercest rivals, the Kingborough Lions. Dave missed Thursday nights training session due to a work trip but on Friday I was able to inform him that his prediction could well be on the money. At that very same training session something just clicked into place!! All the things weve repeatedly been drumming into the players such as formation, moving and calling for the ball well it was as though somebody had flicked a switch. Not that I saw any of it as the Huonville Soccer Ground was enveloped in a Stygian darkness at the time (unfortunately no-one was able to flick the light switch). Still, I figured if they could do all this in total blackness theyd surely have the edge in broad daylight. I mentioned last week that the first ever Sea Dragon Junior matches took place on 12 April 2008. However, it was not until the 3 May of that same year that the club chalked up its first ever win as the then U9s defeated Kingborough Lions by 4-2 with Isaac Beecroft (3) and Vincent Chancellor (1) getting on the score-sheet. On Saturday Isaac and Vincent took the field for the U14s, as did Jake Buckland, Hugh McGarry, Josh Wilson and Archie Cumper who also took part in our first ever win all those years ago. However, it wasnt one of the aforementioned who scored the clubs first ever youth goal. Ten minutes in and after a cagey opening which we edged narrowly on the strength of a couple of counter attacks based on quick flowing interchanges, Rowan Shelton won the ball just inside his own half and as is his wont he made a bee-line in the direction of their goal. Running at break-neck speed and with team-mates left and right of him he struck terror into the back-peddling Kingborough defense. Rowan spotted a gap opening up in the home defense akin to when Moses parted the Red Sea way back sometime in the fourteenth century (give or take a few millennium) and he went through it like a knife through butter, before slotting past the keeper from twelve yards out. It was only a matter of time before the floodgates opened and when they did it left our opponents wishing forlornly that Noah had been around to build them a boat. With Vincent, Isaac, Hugh, Jake, Christian Sayers and Rowan playing flowing football and combining in their half of the field it was no surprise that both Jake and Christian added to the score-line before the half was out. It was a surprise that we only got another three in the second half courtesy of Rowan (again), Isaac (who was breaching their defense at will and on another day might have grabbed a hat-trick) and Hugh. Our second half keeper Brady Cook only touched the ball once in the half and that was to collect the ball for a goal kick. Hannah Parish and Jake Ainslie were very solid in the fullback roles while nothing was getting passed Silas Richter in the center of defense. Josh had his best ever game in the midfield holding role where he seemed to be constantly in the thick of it while Archie after coming out of an almost action-less first half in goal made an impressive contribution across three different positions after half time, particularly in midfield where he was well supported by Arya Clare. Hard to pick a best on ground this week as there were so many worthy contenders. Dave suggested Hugh might have just nicked it so well go with that, but it was certainly a close run thing. Its good to get the monkey off our back after the previous weeks heavy loss. In this level of competition if you look regularly at the League Ladders youll note that every season at every age group and across all divisions theres always a team who gets tailed off at the bottom, losing practically every week. Im pleased to say that that team is NOT us!! Roll on Saturday.

This year Kingborough Lions Black rocked up to face the even more might of our star studded boys and girls. Kingborough seemed confident on the coach handshake and mentioned their big victory in the first game. I was modest and said we did alright. Kick off saw us a little lacking in energy and the first 5 minutes were a tussle in midfield. Then we proceeded to completely dominate Kingborough with non stop action, particularly with shots on goal (a number just off target). Everyone was outstanding yet again, and special mention to our goal keepers who learned that when your team dominates, there is not much to do. Whilst not our most fluent performance, we were dominant and ran out 7-0 winners. Kingborough walked away yet again scheming on how to match the U8 Green Sea Dragons. Great team performance guys.

notched up three goals from Oscar L, Coby and Leyroy. Leyroys deserves a special mention being his first this season, the first for the Sea Dragons and his first ever in a club match. Nice work mate. Good play and effort from everyone again this week. Looking forward to getting stuck into it all properly after the holidays. Cygnet Green 3 def New Town Storm 1 (Oscar L, Cobi, Leyroy)

There are days where it all falls into place - rock solid defence, ferocious midfield and goal sneaking forwards. The display today was first rate. An open field, stunning dribbling skills, spectacular crosses, headed goals and great first touch. Special mention to Luca, Kai & Josh in defence/goals today who stopped EVERYTHING. Great effort. The boys left everything on the field today and I dont think we could have done much more. Cygnet Sea Dragons Green 9 def Waimea Heights 0 (Save 3, Fynn 2, Jake 2, Kai 1, Oscar 1)

The team faced up against St. Theresa at the Soldier's Memorial grounds. We fielded a team of only nine players with Jake once again steeping in for his second match of the day to make up the numbers, and with no substitutes available it was to be an all-out slugfest to the end for all concerned. The team started off well with the occasional foray into the forward line, however the opposition had solid defense so opportunities for shots at goal were restricted. Will it seems has been practicing with some great tackles put in throughout the game. Isaac and Marley were consistent in pushing the ball

through midfield ever searching for an opportunity to nudge forward. Hamish was a player of all positions going from defense to attack and back. Sadie and Molly both played well in defense, continually chasing down the ball and making it difficult for the opposition to get their shots off. Noah too, played well and showed great courage in playing on when he received a shot to the face that would have floored and sidelined many others. Toby had a great match in midfield and his fitness showed through towards the end as he kept on slogging away. And Jake showed great courage in goals and managed to keep the final score respectable. It was a long match against a well organized opponent, and without any substitutes the Cygnet team showed great tenacity in pushing to the end. Cygnet Sea Dragons White 0 lost to St Thereses 5
