- New railways decreased the time it took to travel between towns and cities in Canada - Steamships allowed confortable travel that was significantly faster than other methods of crossing the oceans. - I believe that the railways were the most significant contribution to infrastructure in Canada. Not only did the railways allow much faster long-distance travel between towns and cities, it also allowed a much cheaper, and easier way to ship cargo for businesses. This cheaper method of shipping items allowed businesses to expand their product. Furthermore, rail-ways also allowed an easier method of receiving the raw materials needed to create goods. 2) - The first railway in Canada was the Champlain Saint Lawrence Railway, which was completed in 1836. In 1852 the Champlain Saint Lawrence Railway was expanded to Saint Lambert, Quebec. The expansion also included traveling further into New York State. I believe that the expansion of a Canadian railway further into the US demonstrated the ever growing trade ties with those of the US. Expansion must have meant demand, which means Canada was becoming a good trading partner with the US. 3) The beginning of urbanisation in Canada was marked by the significantly easier method of travel. New railway systems allowed for faster, cheaper, and safer methods of travel around Canada. This was the beginning of infest ruction. Over time people began moving into larger population centers, such as York, and Montral. Information became cheap, and thus modern information based societies, like today, were beginning to appear. Cheaper information, along with new advancements in the sciences, helped begin the process of urbanisation. Advancements in food production, easier shipments of products, and medicine allowed for a much larger urban centre.
