Software virtualization is a technology which enables users to execute applications without having to install them in the conventional manner.

The application runs in a self -contained system, the virtual sandbox. This technology allows the parallel operation of several versions of an application on one system. EVALAZE offers a virtualization platform for applications without agents. By packaging the application with all registry entries and .dll files in a single executable file, it is isolated entirely from the operating system, thus avoiding any application conflicts. Benefits

What benefits does a virtualized application provide?

Application virtualization with EVALAZE makes it possible to execute complex applications anywhere as small, pre-configured and immediately executable .exe files. Applications virtualized with EVALAZE require neither setup, configuration files, clients, or drivers. The EVALAZE engine converts the installed files and registry entries into a virtual .exe file. Protected against .dll and dependency conflicts, the virtual applications can even be used on systems with a very low level of authorization. You can then execute the application under any Windows operating system.

Deployment of applications in an isolated environment without affecting the operating system The possibility of a link from the quick launch bar, desktop, or start menu The file association gives the virtual application the appeal of an installed application Several versions of the same application can run in parallel on the same system No system file or .dll conflicts Simplified migration Reduction in the cost of provision Distribute applications via intranet, the Internet, USB sticks, or existing client management structures 16-bit programs can run on a 64-bit system Reduction in helpdesk costs and support requirements

Hardware virtualization vs. application virtualization

Unlike hardware virtualization solutions, such as those from Citrix, VMware or Microsoft Virtual PC, which emulate the underlying hardware and therefore produce a complete copy of the operating system, EVALAZE only emulates the operating system components that are required for the execution. This means that applications virtualized with EVALAZE behave like normal .exe files and enable simple deployment in the in-house intranet, on the Internet, via USB drives, or via the existing infrastructure, e.g. Microsoft SMS, DeskCenter Management Suite, Altiris or Novell ZENworks.

Cost reduction through virtualized applications

EVALAZE application virtualization enables administrators, system integrators, and software manufacturers to reduce the costs and effort involved in the development, setup, configuration, deployment, and maintenance of applications. Legacy applications can be used again under Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Virtualization process and operation

In its uncompressed state, the EVALAZE virtual operating system takes up a mere 15 MB of hard disk capacity. During the virtualization process, the application is packaged in a single self-contained .exe file which can then be executed automatically. If the final .exe file exceeds a size of 2 GB, an additional DAT file is created automatically as the primary data container. You can configure the file associations and links (desktop, quick launch bar, and start menu) during the build process. This gives the virtual application the appeal of a locally installed application. EVALAZE allows the most diverse software applications to be used without requiring a locationspecific or complicated installation on the client PCs or servers. When using virtualized software, no entries are made in the registry database and no .dll files are created on the computer. All the data and libraries required for the execution are contained exclusively in the specifically created .exe file (DAT container file). User settings and generated documents are stored by default in a sandbox that can be created either at the storage location of the .exe file or at any other selected location. The .exe file produced by EVALAZE can be used both locally on the respective computer or elsewhere via a rewritable storage medium such as a USB stick, which means that use on several computers presents no problem.

Areas of application
EVALAZE is intended for use by companies of various sizes as well as public institutions and schools. Its use generally results from a need to simplify software distribution or solve compatibility problems. It can be used either for all the users computers or as a stand-alone solution for solving an isolated problem.

Application scenarios

Using different versions of a browser in parallel. Example: browser version A for the intranet and browser version B for the Internet. Making archived documents available. Many institutions and companies have to retain certain documents for a number of years. With EVALAZE, you can now, for instance, execute applications that start under Windows 3.11 also under Windows 7. Some applications are not terminal server compatible. The isolation from the operating system means that these applications can also be executed on a terminal server. A virtual application is much easier to deploy than performing an installation on each individual computer. The virtual file can be stored centrally on the network with individual users given access to it. A further benefit is the optional use of software distribution. In heterogeneous landscapes, it is difficult to roll out installations across the board without complications. With EVALAZE, it is enough to transmit a virtual .exe file.
