WELCOME!!!
Welcome to the CHE News. This quarterly newsletter will give you an update on the CHE projects within the Bethshean Mexico Mission. I also hope to spotlight a specific community with each newsletter and provide some information regarding the life in that community. With this first issue though I am going to just bring you an update on some of the things that I have been doing since I returned to Estancia in January. But before I do that, I want to thank each and every one of you for your prayers. Prayer is something that I am learning more and more about. The only way Jesus could talk to his Father was through prayer. The importance of prayer can not be minimized and in the past I have allowed this part of my spiritual life to come and go. Prayer is so powerful and I am experiencing the blessings that come from it when we pray in Jesus Holy name. So thank you and please continue to ask God to protect and bless the people that Bethshean Mexico Mission serve.

The Medical/Dental team had their annual visit to the Estancia area in February. As you may have heard, they were not able to get any medications across the border. Why? A law was enacted in 2010 that prohibits foreign medications to be brought into the country. What does this ,mean? It means that we will not be able to bring medications into the country unless this law is changed. With that said, the team was

able to go to the villages of Estancia, San Marcos, Santa Ana, Nigromanti, and San Nicolas. There were many smiles and new friends made. The team is a vital aspect of Bethshean Mexico Mission. Some of the villages do not churches,

The village of Estancia does not have a wastewater treatment system. Currently the raw sewage is pumped out to the desert via a pipe and does not get any type of treatment. I have recently been gathering some information on wastewater treatment plants to get an idea of what is needed for the clinic and for the village. We will need not only a

wastewater treatment plant but also a water treatment system to insurance safe water into the facility. Our hope is that through this the village leaders will see the value of a system for the entire village. I am gathering data to see what type and quantity of infections and other ailments relating to dysentery from

the Health Clinic in Estancia. We will be hooking the system up also to the elderly home and thus will be used by both facilities. The reclaimed water will be used for watering the plants and trees of the clinic. This is a prayer need.

B APTISMS

On April 14, 2013, the Villa Gonzalez Ortega Church had two gentleman that were baptized into the family. The day started off with Sunday Service and then a meal for the congregation and families. After the meal we proceeded to the camp in Estancia were the baptisms were held. Please pray for these new believers.

therefore it is a way to bring Gods love to them. One particular experience this year was that we went and purchased beans, rice, and bananas and we delivered them to a very remote village up in the mountains. This village actually has a few people living in caves. They are pretty self sufficient but are lacking many of the essentials. The drive to get there, well lets just say that I will never complain about the roads in Estancia as these roads were very narrow and rocky. The medical/dental team is not all made up of health professionals and if you would be interested in participating next year, please contact Dr. Freddie Martin famartin@charter.net

SODIS
SODIS stands for Solar Disinfection. It is a way to disinfect water just through what God has already provided to us-the sun. By filling an empty clear plastic bottle (Coke) with unclean water from a stream , well, or tap and place it on a piece metal and let it sit in the sun for at least 6 hours, you end up with drinkable water. This method kills up to 99% of the bacteria and microbes in dirty water. The UV rays from the sun kill the bacteria. I am starting to use this method to treat my tap water. SODIS has been used in developing countries to provide a cheap and sustainable method for people to obtain clean water. If the water is turbid, or has a dark color to it, SODIS can not be used. There is some remote villages that do not have piped water and you can make a very simple Biosand Filter to help get rid of the turbidity. With this method, you filter water through clean sand and gravel and at the end you get clear water that is about 90-93% free of bacteria. You then can use the SODIS method to get rid of the rest of the bacteria.

C OMPOST
Compost is organic matter that has been decomposed and recycled as a fertilizer and soil amendment. To show how this can be done, I have made my own compost tumbler to be use in my house. I am using items like leaves, vegetable and fruit scraps, egg shells, paper towels and other items in the tumbler and turning it every 2-3 days. I hope that I can have a full batch ready every 4-5 months. I am planning on using the compost in some planter boxes and for the trees on my yard. Depending on how well it works, I may make one for the camp and for the clinic. Composting will help this area in learning that God has given us ways to take care of His creation and at the same time provide a natural additive to the soil. I will keep you updated as to how my composting works.

In February, a construction team was working on laying tile, completing some electrical work, installing outside light fixtures, and some plumbing. The tile is complete on the first floor and we have a couple of rooms completed on the second floor. Additionally, much discussion happened during this time concerning the roof. We have had leaks from the roof, so it was decided that we would take off the metal portion and use a sealer to fix the problem. This is unfortunate as this is an expense we had not

A big step in the CHE philosophy has been taking place concerning the construction of the clinic. The churches have stepped up and they are painting the entire interior of the clinic. They are using their own offerings to pay for the materials and are volunteering
