Preparing to Dance
Why warm-up?
There are three main reasons why we warm up. The first is to increase heart rate to get oxygen to the muscles quicker, you can do this by jogging round the room. To prevent injurys such as the pulling or tearing of a muscle, this can be done by performing either a static or dynamic stretch. The last reason we warm up is to get you mentally prepared which may help to increase your ability to remember steps and also improves coordination
What to wear?
The clothes you are advised to wear clothes that dont constrict movement such as leggings, tracksuit bottoms or a T-Shirt. You may also be advised to take out all jewlellrey to ensure that it doesnt catch on any other students and cause injury.

Describe each one and give an example of each one in your own dance: Travel
Travelling is transferring the the body height or placement using a range of different movements. E.g Stepping or Sliding.
Turn
Rotating the entire body either a quarter, half, or fully. This can also be performed as ajump.
Transfer of weight
Moving the weight from one part of the body to another. E.g Going from a standing to leaning over on one leg.
Gesture
A body movement that potrays a concept or mood.
Stillness
A motionless pose usually chreographed at the start or end of a sequence. Also people who are on stage but not dancing have to maintain a pose to ensure the focus is on the people dancing not on the people in the background.
Jump
Pushing the body into the air in an upward motion. There are many different way to jump these are; 2 feet to 2 feet, 2 feet to 1 foot, 1 foot to 2 feet and 1 foot to 1 foot.
Which dynamics did you use in your dance and what was the effect?
In my dance I was paired with Amy and we were fighting over a pen. We choreagraphed it so that we used aggressive and violent movements in order to make the sequence to look more believeable. It also helps engage our audience so they are more compelled to continue watching. We had to be careful whilst doing this as even though the moves where meant to be agressive we had to ensure that it still looked like a dance that had cohesion and believeability.
