From The President

Are you a LYBUNT? Excuse me. A What? (Pronounced Lie-bunt) Hopefully, you are not a LYBUNT. Its a disastrous tag with which to be associated, because no one really knows what you are and why you are being called this preposterous name. If you are wearing this tag on your person you must take these steps to have it removed immediately. Who you gonna call? Not Ghostbusters SGES! We can bust the LYBUNTS with ease! But, what is it? It is Last Year But Not This. We are using a little good humor to get your attention because, if you are a LYBUNT, we want and need you. Is just one more member important to SGES? Absolutely! You are most certainly important. It is the individual that shapes our society. Your voice counts. And, many thanks to our April speaker, David Bahn, for bringing the LYBUNT term to my attention. The meetings and speakers have been spectacular. Also, thanks to First Vice-President, Dan Winko who concluded the meeting in my absence. SGES is in the middle of our membership drive and we are over two-thirds of the climb to the goal. The 300-member goal is a lofty goal and it has been set high so we can reach high. We have never obtained 300 before and we need your help to reach that high of a goal. But, I will admit to you, the last one-third is denitely
the
hardest
climb
of
all.
When the road is
difcult,

ISSUE 2, APRIL 2013 THE SOUTHERN GENEALOGISTS EXCHANGE SOCIETY, INC. From the President, continued

pride, I state SGES had nine presenters sharing their expertise with the attendees. They were: Dr. Kay Gilmour, Jim Bass, Jon Ferguson, Mike Lawson, Cleve Powell, Joan Vinson, Gary Inglish, Jim Vearil and Arnold Weeks. These individuals shared their knowledge and expertise freely with all attendees. SGES acknowledges you and thanks you for your contribution to the genealogy community. The entire conference was spearheaded by Joel and Alzina Warner and Janet Howard. Hats off for a wonderful job. The man hours it takes to oversee and complete this effort is unsung and unknown. Thank you from SGES. One other important mention is that of Denise Olson, SGES Webmaster. Denise presented three sessions on technology topics at the RootsTech Conference held March 20-23rd in Salt Lake City. Attendance was over 7,000 for the sessions known to merge genealogy with technology. SGES takes delight in the knowledge our membership is contributing not only to each other but to the larger consortium of genealogy. To all of the previously mentioned ladies and gentlemen, we applaud. I could not possibly mention everyone who does a part to keep the wheels of our organization smoothly turning, but know you are appreciated, one and all. See you on May 11th! Yours for growing trees, Betty Reed, SGES President

Volunteers Extraordinaire!
These folks manned the table for SGES at the Northeast Florida Conference; Valerie Bennett, Mary Kinsey, Jim McKenney, Mike Lawson, Jon Ferguson And next door at Legacy Stories; Connie Bradshaw & Betty Reed. Many hands make light work and these folks really pitched in talking to everyone and displaying our friendliness. A very special thanks to Mary Kinsey who worked on the display board for the conference, which is now to be displayed at our regular meetings. She did an outstanding job. We are always looking for volunteers. Do you have an extra few hours a week? We will place you where your talents are best displayed.

Moultrie Creek Blog is named Top 40 Blogs for 2013

The Webmaster of SGES, Denise Barrett Olson, has once again received national recognition. In the May/June 2013 issue of the Family Tree Magazine, reporter David A. Fryxell, recognized the outstanding blogs of the year. Denise is keeping company with other well-known names such as the Ancestry Insider, Dear Myrtle, and Eastmans Online Newsletter. Although Moultrie Creek is particularly noted for the ongoing technology support, Fryxell additionally commented the Moultrie Creek blog has broadened to also include tips on topics as diverse as cemetery artwork and archiving family keepsakes.
