Count: Count is a numerical value, which express the coarseness or fineness of the yarn and also relationship between

length & width (the mass per unit length or the length per unit mass) of that yarn. Types of Yarn Count: 1. Direct count system: The wt. per unit length is the direct yarn count. The common features of all direct count systems are the length of yarn is fixed and the weight of yarn varies according to its fineness. N=
W xl L

N = Yarn count W = Wt. of sample in required unit L = Length of sample l = Unit of length of the sample Tex Denier Decitex Militex Kilotex Jute count = No. of grams per 1,000 meters. = No of grams per 9,000 meters. = No. of grams per 10,000 meters. = No. of milligrams per 1000 meters. = No. of kilograms per 1000 meters. = No. of pound (lb) per 14,400 yds.

** 40 tex means 1000 meters of yarn weigh 40 gm. 150 D means 2. Indirect count system: The length per unit wt. is the indirect yarn count. The common features of all indirect count systems are the wt. of yarn is fixed and the length of yarn varies according to its fineness. N = W xl

= No of 1000 meters length per Kg or no. of 1 m per 1 gm. = No. of 256 yds length per pound. = No. of 560 yds length per pound. = No. of 300 yds length per pound.

** 32 Ne means 32 hanks of 840 yds weight one pound. Ques: 9800 m & 490 gm is Ne, Nm, Tex & Denier of the yarn? What length of yarn is contained in 1.2 kg of a yarn of Ne 30? How many Kg do 7000000 m of a yarn of Ne 30 weight? Ticket Number: Count or size of sewing thread is called ticket number. To express count of sewing thread indirect system is extensively used. 1. Metric count of sewing number: 60/1 Singly ply yarn that has 60 numbers of 1000m length wt 1 kg or 1 gm of single ply length is 60 meter. 60/2 - 2 gm of double ply sewing thread length is 60 meter. Each ply thread, wt. of 60m length is 1 gm. Resultant count is 30. Wt. of 30 meter 2 ply sewing thread is 1 gm. 90/3 - 3 gm of triple ply sewing thread length is 90 meter. Each ply thread, wt. of 90m length is 1 gm. Resultant count is 30. Wt. of 30 meter 3 ply sewing thread is 1 gm. 80/2 X 3 = 120 (Ticket Number) Wt of 120 meter is 3 gm. So, Length of 3 gm of sewing thread is called Ticket number. 80/4 X 3 = 60 (Coarser than 80/2 thread) that mean with the increasing number of metric ticket number sewing thread will be more fine & vice versa. 2. Cotton count of sewing number: 1/60 Singly ply yarn that has 60 numbers of 840 length wt is 1 lb. 2/60 Double ply yarn that has 60 numbers of 840 length wt is 1 lb for each ply. 2/80 X 3 = 120 (Ticket Number) Ne = 0.59 X Nm (1000 meter/ Tex) X 3 = Metric ticket number (590.5/ Tex) X 3 = Cotton ticket number
