AT&T, JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT AND LOCAL LEGISLATORS HELP RACINE AND MILWAUKEE AREA STUDENTS EXPERIENCE THE BENEFITS OF STAYING IN SCHOOL
Job Shadow Events Part of Aspire, a $350 Million Effort by AT&T to Help Reduce High School Drop-Out Rates
MILWAUKEE, APRIL 24, 2013 Racine and Milwaukee area high school students learned about the
importance of staying in school over the past two days from State Representatives Mason, Kapenga and local AT&T employees as part of two day-long Junior Achievement (JA) job shadowing events. The goal of the programs was to help high school students make the connection between success in the classroom and in the workplace. State Representative Mason met with students from Racine Washington Park High School during Tuesdays program and spoke with them about the importance of doing well in school. Education is the foundation upon which a future is built, said Representative Mason. Job Shadowing helps expand students horizons for potential career paths, while also remin ding them that each of those paths includes educational milestones, beginning with high school graduation.

State Representative Kapenga met with students from Project Change and Waukesha County Technical College Junior Academic Work and Service Program Schools during Wednesdays program and spoke with them about the importance of doing well in school. Education is critical to our states success in the 21 century economy, said Representative Kapenga. Job Shadow events like this one demonstrate the importance of staying in school and building toward a successful career. Building on the programs success and positive impact, students went to work with AT&T employees as part of the initiatives ongoing campaign to encourage students to stay in school. Students participating in the AT&T / JA Worldwide Job Shadow Initiative shadowed AT&T employees during their regular work day to see firsthand the educational background and skills they need to succeed on the job.
