Marjorie Lyons of Broken Arrow has been appointed to the newly-created Citizens Advisory Panel for Aging Issues by Oklahoma Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman. Lyons is the first person named to the five-member panel created last year as part of a legislative effort to recognize and improve oversight of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. The former nurse is State President of AARP Oklahoma. "The need for a reliable and functioning body of advisors with expertise in aging issues is paramount as the number of older Oklahomans continues to increase each year," Lyons said. "Aging issues matter to Oklahoma, and I plan to use the skills and knowledge I've
accumulated as a nurse and during my time with AARP Oklahoma to benefit the panel." Lyons said she appreciate's Senator Bingman's leadership on issues critical to Oklahoma's seniors and thanked him for placing her on the important panel. "I would also like to thank my state senator, Kim David, for her support of my nomination and her continued efforts on behalf of Oklahoma's se niors." Lyons retired as a registered nurse in 2009 from a nursing career that spanned more than 50 years. The last 11 of those years were spent at the Oklahoma State Department of Health. "Marjorie will be an independent and experienced voice for the 50-plus population in our state," said AARP
Oklahoma State Director Sean Voskuhl. "She understands the issues facing older Oklahomans and will bring keen intellect and practical experience to the panel." "Senator Bingman certainly made a wise choice and we greatly appreciate his vote of confiLYONS dence in Marjorie," Voskuhl added. Lyons has served as state president of AARP Oldahoma for the past four years. She also has served on the post adjudication review board for Creek and Wagoner Counties and the Wagoner County Election Board. She serves on the Oklahoma State Council on Aging and the Broken Arrow Senior Board. Lyon is also a member of the steering committee for The Future of Nursing in Oklahoma.

The school's last year in operation was 1960 when student enrollment was 10. The last teacher at Lone Star was Meady Rhodes.
