knit version
finished measurements: 30 long x 6 wide gauge: 18 sts, 36 rows = 4 in Garter stitch materials: 100 yds of worsted weight yarn in Blue 100 yds of worsted weight yarn in Yellow US 8 (5 mm) knitting needles

crochet version
finished measurements: 30 long x 6 wide gauge: 10 dc, 7 rows = 4 in double crochet materials: 70 yds of worsted weight yarn in Blue 70 yds of worsted weight yarn in Yellow I-9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook

Using Blue, cast on 130 sts. Starting with a RS row (mark the RS with a marker), work in Garter stitch until piece measures 2 from cast on edge, ending with a WS row. Next Row (first keyhole slit): K17, bind off next 13 sts, k to end. Next Row: K to the gap created by last rows bind offs, use cable cast on method to cast on 13 sts to bridge gap, then k to end. Continue working in Garter stitch until piece measures 3 from cast on edge, ending with a WS row. Change to Yellow and continue working in Garter stitch until piece measures 4 from cast on edge, ending with a WS row. Next Row (second keyhole slit): K17, bind off next 13 sts, k to end. Next Row: K to the gap created by last rows bind offs, use cable cast on method to cast on 13 sts to bridge gap, then k to end. Continue working in Garter stitch until piece measures 6 from cast on edge, ending with a WS row. Bind off.

Using Blue, ch 79. Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. Rows 2 and 3: Ch 3, skip first stitch then dc in each st across. Row 4 (first keyhole slit): Ch 3, skip first stitch then dc in each of next 10 sts, ch 10, skip next 10 sts then dc in each st across rest of row. Row 5: Repeat Row 2. Row 6: Change to Yellow, then repeat Row 2. Row 7 (second keyhole slit): Ch 3, skip first stitch then dc in each of next 55 sts, ch 10, skip next 10 sts then dc in each st across rest of row. Rows 8 - 10: Repeat Row 2. Fasten off.
