hile the weather for the Inaugural Battlefield Cross Country Festival was wet, the turnout and competition was a tremendous success! The severe rain downpours added a significant challenge, but it didnt hinder the runners or spectators spirits. The September 29 race was hosted by BRASF in conjunction with Forge Racing at the Port Hudson State Historic Site in Jackson, La. The race was an enjoyable change of scenery and a different challenge for Louisiana high school cross

country runners. The race registered over 900 runners from 33 high school and middle school teams. The teams included local and out of town schools as far away as Alexandria.

The Boys Varsity Team Champion was Walker High School with 51 points. The Individual Boys Champion was Brady Warren of Walker High School with a three -mile time of 17:20. Contd on p. 2

The race is set for Saturday, February 16, 2013. The race is staged from the Belle of Baton Rouge Atrium and features a beautiful course winding through the oak shaded boulevards of South Baton Rouge, through the historic LSU campus and climbing atop the Mississippi River levee back to the finish in downtown Baton Rouge.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 3 male and female finishers. The top overall male and female Masters (40+) and Grandmasters (50+) winners will receive $50 gift cards to Fleet Feet Sports. There will also be top 50 and age group prizes.

Battlefield XC Festival, contd.


The Girls Varsity Team Champion was St. Thomas Aquinas with 47 points. The Individual Girls Champion was Haley Gregoire of St. Michael High School with a threemile time of 22:19. The JV/Middle School Boys Team Champion was Catholic High School of Baton Rouge with 17 possible. Thanks to Forge Racing, Louisiana State Parks, Fleet Feet, Drew Louviere, Acadian Ambulance, Coca-Cola and Powerade for providing funding and facilitation. Forge Series Battlefield 10k


The fourth and final leg of the Forge Series was on Saturday, October 13. The Battlefield 10k trail race and Trail Kidz 1 Miler Race took place at the Port Hudson State Historic Site in Jackson, La. beginning at 8:30 a.m. The overall female 10k winner was Stephanie Kalozdi with a time of 41:12. The overall male winner was Edwin Koenck with a time of 34:07. Since this was the final leg of the trail series, the overall series results are: Female overall series winner was Stephanie Kalozdi of New Orleans and the male overall series winner was Edwin Koenck of Leesville. The Goldenfliers 5 & 10 Miler will again be one of the fastest races along the Gulf Coast. Reindeer Run

(11/30/12)

Forum 35's 2012 Reindeer Run 5k and Jingle Bell Jog 1 mile run will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, November 30th in Downtown Baton Rouge. Both runs will start and finish near City Plaza at the corner of 4th St. and North Blvd. Reindeer Run is held in conjunction with the Downtown Festival of Lights featuring Santa Claus, music, fireworks, and free outdoor ice skating. LA Marathon

(1/19/13 - 1/20/13)
The Louisiana Marathon features full and half marathon races on a flat, fast, runner friendly course through downtown Baton Rouge, past the LSU lakes, on the university campus and into historic neighborhoods. There will be music and entertainment along the course as well. The race is an official qualifier for the Boston Marathon. For more information visit, thelouisianamarathon.com.

Battle at Flanacher
Flag Football Tournament
BRASF invites you to participate in the Battle at Flanacher Flag Football Tournament presented by Academy Sports + Outdoors. The tournament will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Flanacher Park starting at 8 a.m. Battle at Flanacher consists of a 16-team double elimination tournament.
