A. Summary of the Lesson Plan: This social studies lesson plan is designed for 3rd grade students to learn what supply and demand is and what producers and consumers do. This will be an extension of day 4 and will use the 3rd Grade Houghton Mifflin Social Studies textbook Communities (pages 290291) B. Target Population: Grade Level: 3rd Grade Skill Level: All learning levels Grouping: Whole group discussion: Introduction, Pairs: Activity. Individual: Assessment C. Materials: Houghton Miifflin 3rd Grade Social Studies Book: Communities (pages 290-291) Paper Pencil Poster board Markers D. Objectives: o NV State Social Studies Standards o E9.3.3 Give examples of prices set by businesses for selling goods and services.

Student-Friendly Standards I can give example of how businesses price their goods.

E. Procedure: 1. Review the topic: As a class we will go over what we learned the previous day about supply and demands. I will ask students: What is supply? What is demand? What do consumers do? What do producers do? (Students can use the KWL chart as a reference.)

2. After we have reviewed we will read The Price of Juice on pages 290-291. I will stop and ask questions during the reading. (after the demand paragraph on page 290) Whose juice would you buy? Jays or Lias (at the end of the story page 291) Do you think that it was smart for both Jay and Lia to start selling their juice both for 50 cents? Why or why not? 3. Activity:

I will tell students that they are producing their own product. In pairs students will get a poster board and markers. They will come up with a product that they want to sell and how much they want to sell it for. I will tell students that 100 people want to buy their product when it first comes out so they should make enough products for the first 100 people and then more potential consumers later on. The students will draw a picture of their product and write a description of what is and the price that they chose to sell it for.

4. Students will present their poster board to the class. They will talk about their product that they chose to sell and the price that they chose to sell it for. For peer review I will ask other students if they think that the price is good for the amount of product the students presenting have and the amount of consumers they have. 5. CLOSURE: Individually I will have students do a ticket out the door. I will ask students how does the price of the product affect the consumer? They will have to write a minimum of 2 sentences. F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? I will use the ticket out the door the measure students understanding. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. I will see if students response to the ticket out the door is along the lines of: If the price of the product is too high consumers will not want to buy it. If the cost is too low then there will be a lot of consumers and then you can run out of product. G. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think the whole lesson will be easy to teach since it is a review of what students will already know. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? I dont think that there will be any challenging parts to teach. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I will have students go to their local grocery store or any store and see what the prices of items are and see how many people are buying that item. Do more costly things get less consumers? 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts?

For students that do not grasp the concept I will ask them questions to see what they know. For the things that they do not know I will go over them and give more definitions. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I might need to add another standard. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? The most difficult part of writing this lesson plan was listing all of the appropriate standards because not all the standards match the content that is being taught.
