A. Summary of the Lesson Plan: This lesson reviews concepts taught over the last two days. Students will practice saving money and how to manage a budget. B. Target Population: Grade Level: 2nd. Skill Level: on level Grouping: Whole group for procedure step 1 and 6. Large group for steps 2-5. Independent practice for steps 7-8. C. Materials: Computer White Board Markers Budget Worksheet Smart Board Internet Access Access to the website: http://pbskids.org/itsmylife/games/mad_money_flash.html
D. Objectives: o NV State Social Studies Standards o E10.2.2 Identify reasons for saving money.
E. Procedure: 1. Teacher reviews information taught on day 1. 2. Students will work in two large groups to play the game Mad Money on the Smart Board. 3. Each team tries to purchase the object of their choice in the game. 4. Teacher will assist students throughout the game by writing the shopping list on the whiteboard and reminding students how many days are left. 5. Teacher will help clarify information during the game about budgeting and will read aloud the information on the screen for each group. 6. Whole group discussion about what they learned about budgeting to earn their item. Was it easy? Was it difficult? Why?

7. Students will work independently to complete the budget worksheet independently. 8. Students will write a journal entry about what they learned about budgeting and saving money. 9. CLOSURE: Students will talk to their shoulder partner about the importance of saving and budgeting money. F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? The budget worksheet and journal entry will be used to measure student understanding. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. I will be able to read through the journal entries and worksheets to see if students have written information that are relevant to the objectives of the lesson. Students will understand the concept if they explain different reasons for why people save money based on the information taught over the previous 2 days.
