Reference the notes in the succeeding pages 1. 2. 3. In relation to Directions of Honble Supreme Court, the MHRD filed its report on 02 Nov 2011. Further, the JIIT has filed its rejoinder in the Honble Supreme Court as required. The next hearing has been postponed. Fresh dates have not yet been decided.

Reference the notes in the succeeding pages. The above matter was listed on 24 August, 2011 in Honble Supreme Court. Having heard the learned counsel for the Union of India who further sought time to file the reply on the hearings by the fresh committee the Court has directed the Union of India to: (a) (b) (c) File their report by 17 October, 2011. The institutes have been given two weeks thereafter to file their objections Further two weeks given to the Union of India from the date of receipt of such objections to file rejoinder

The matter is now listed for final disposal on 22 November, .2011. The interim orders have been directed to continue.

Reference the notes in the succeeding pages. The hearing scheduled on 19 July, 2011 could not take place as one of the learned Judges was not present in the court. The next hearing has now been scheduled on 24 August, 2011.

The Supreme Court bench consisting of Honble Mr. Justice Dalvir Bhandari and Honnle Mr. Justice Deepak Verma upon hearing the writ petition filed by JRN, Rajasthan Vidyapeeth (Deemed University) on April 10, 2011 ruled the following: (a) The three member committee formulated by MHRD shall examine the responses submitted by the Deemed Universities (DU). The said Committee will be reconstituted in the light of Mr. Sunil Kumar, Additional Secretary (Higher Education), MHRD not wanting to be the member of this committee. The reconstituted Committee shall give hearing to 44 Deemed Universities and submit its report to the Government. The Government shall not seek views of Tandon Committee. The bench granted 6 weeks for the MHRD Committee to examine the responses submitted by the 44 Deemed Universities. The bench further granted another 4 weeks to the Government to consider the report and recommendations submitted by the MHRD Committee. Based on the Report submitted by MHRD Committee, It would be open to the Government to recommend any of the 44 Deemed Universities (including JRN, Rajasthan Vidyapeeth) to be upgraded from category C to category B. The matter shall be heard by the bench on July 19, 2011 along with advocate Sh. Viplav Sharmas main writ petition on which the earlier orders were passed (as listed in the VCs note of January 12, 2011).

This is for information of all the students and faculty members that the Honble Supreme Court bench consisting of Justice Dalvir Bhandari and Justice Deepak Verma on Viplav Sharma vs. Union of India & Others regarding the Deemed University case on January 11, 2011, UPON hearing counsel the Court made the following O R D E R: Learned Attorney General appearing on behalf of the Union of India through the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, on instructions, submitted as under: (1) In relation to the 44 institutions which have been dealt with in Annexure VII(d) of the Report of the committee for Review of Existing Institutions Deemed to be Universities, the Central Government will issue individual notices to each institution drawing its attention to the deficiencies and calling for an explanation and response. It is clarified that the institutions shall be entitled to not only give a reply on the deficiencies but to make a representation as to the status vis-a-vis the deficiencies. (2) Thereafter, each of the institutions will be separately heard. After hearing each individual institution, the Central Government will pass separate reasoned report in this behalf in relation to each institution and place a comprehensive report before this Court. We direct that notices be issued by the Union of India within two weeks from today and reply to the notices be filed within two weeks thereafter. Let there be no default by any institution in this behalf. The learned Attorney General for India would submit a comprehensive report to this Court on or before 25th of April, 2011, with an advance copy thereof to the learned counsel appearing for the institutions. Let this matter be listed on 3rd May, 2011 as part- heard. Meanwhile, we direct that the status quo granted by this Court shall continue in respect of all the 44 institutions.
