Marketing Manager Reporting to: Responsible for: Hours: Salary: Term: Head of Fundraising and Marketing Marketing Executive: Analysis and Support 21 hours per week XXX pa (inc London weighting), pro rata for 21 hours Fixed term contract starting 21 April 2010, with the end of the contract coinciding with the end of the fixed term contract for the Marketing Executive: Analysis and Support. The post of Marketing Manager may be made permanent but this is not guaranteed. XXX 6% pension contribution, season ticket loan, 25 days holiday (pro rata for 21 hours), bank holidays (pro rata for 21 hours), childcare voucher scheme. The Marketing Manager will be responsible for planning, managing and delivering marketing activities that increase the charitys trading income, with a particular focus on those trading activities that make the greatest contribution to the charitys bottom line. They will also work with the Chief Executive and the Head of Fundraising and Marketing to ensure the delivery of key aspects of the one-year Department of Health Service Development grant. This includes strengthening market research and analysis, improving IT to support income generation, and reviewing the charitys training business. Key objectives To work with the Head of Fundraising and Marketing to develop the charitys annual marketing plan and budget, contributing to setting objectives and income targets, and ensuring that the necessary resources and infrastructure are in place to support the plan. To plan, manage and deliver the marketing of the charitys products and services, hitting agreed income targets within budgeted expenditure. To work with the Head of Fundraising and Marketing to review and develop existing trading activities, and to identify opportunities for market and new product development. To raise the profile of the charity and its brand, with a focus on activities to support income generation. To represent positively and promote the charity and its work in all dealings, both internal and external.

Key responsibilities Planning, development and management To devise and develop plans for effective marketing campaigns which are informed by the evaluation of past activities and by insights into customers and markets.

To schedule and project manage the delivery of a range of promotional activities, including DM, inserts, stands at conferences and other publicity, ensuring that activities are delivered within agreed budgets and timescales. To oversee the delivery of good customer care across the charity. To co-ordinate meetings of the Income Generation Group, ensuring that the meetings inform the forward planning, development and delivery of effective marketing activities. To control budgets for relevant activities, including preparing costings and checking monthly management accounts. To manage and develop the Marketing Executive to achieve their full potential. To commission freelance staff and external suppliers to deliver a range of activities, and monitor their performance. To work co-operatively to ensure the effective integration of marketing activities within the charitys other activities.

Delivery of marketing activities To write promotional copy, and oversee the design and production of marketing materials. To source and write up examples of good practice, so as to promote XXXs resources to nonusers. To devise and implement a programme of market research and analysis, ensuring that it provides insight to inform the development of effective marketing activity. To contribute to the development of the charitys CRM database, online shop, website, email bulletin and social media, ensuring they are developed and used to best advantage for marketing purposes. To act as a first line of contact for incoming phone calls and emails, opportunistically selling / cross-selling the charitys products and services. To attend key events in order to promote the charitys products and services, and gain insights into customers, prospects and markets.

Reviews To work with the Head of Fundraising and Marketing and other colleagues to review the organisational implications of expanding the charitys training business, including: the recruitment of a wider pool of freelance trainers the management, administration and quality assurance of training courses the development of new training products for new markets costing and charging, ensuring that the training business at a minimum covers all of its costs and ideally makes a positive contribution to the charitys bottom line.

To keep under review existing and potential markets, identifying opportunities for market development, market penetration and new product development. To consult with the Finance and Office Manager over costing and pricing, to ensure that trading activities make a positive contribution to the charitys bottom line.

Evaluation To evaluate the effectiveness of marketing activities and apply learnings to future plans.

General To attend and participate in internal meetings, as appropriate.

To work closely with other members of the staff team, keeping abreast of useful developments, sharing useful contacts, communicating plans and ensuring that marketing activities are fully integrated within the charitys other activities. To develop a personal knowledge base on XXX, to underpin effective marketing activity. Experience in marketing to the statutory sector (i.e. the NHS and local authorities) Skills and abilities: 4. Strong organisational skills and keen attention to detail, in order to plan and schedule multiple projects, respond flexibly to opportunities, and hit deadlines 5. Creative thinking, with the ability to identify opportunities, suggest ideas and turn them into workable plans for income generation 6. A high degree of financial and business acumen, in order to develop marketing plans with a good return on investment and ensure that trading activities make a positive contribution to the charitys bottom line 7. A high degree of numeracy, in order to understand budgets and forecasts, prepare accurate costings for budgets, and monitor income and expenditure 8. Good copywriting skills 9. Strong inter-personal skills, able to build rapport and relationships with people at all levels, including customers, prospects, staff, consultants and suppliers 10. Good negotiating skills, in order to deal effectively with customers and suppliers 11. Ability to brief designers, use design templates, maintain corporate identity and buy print 12. Proficient administrative skills (MS Word, Excel, email and internet), in order to prepare copy, reports and budgets, use email and undertake research 13.
