MONTHLY CRIME BULLETIN Auto Breaking and Entering April 2013 Activity Summary: There were ten (10) Auto B&Es reported in April 2013. There were twenty-two (22) Auto B&Es reported during the same time frame in 2012. This is a 55% decrease from 2012 to 2013. The majority of incidents, seven (7) or 70%, took place at commercial locations. Five (5), or 50%, of the incidents involved forced entry. An equal number of incidents (2) occurred on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. Five (5), or 50%, were discovered between the hours of 1600 to 1959. Nine (9) incidents are currently open for further investigation and one (1) has been closed with leads exhausted. Comments/Recommendations: Historically, HPD has an average of 31 Auto B&Es during the month of April with a current threshold of 22 to 40. This April, we came in well under the threshold with 10 reported Auto B&Es. Based on day and hour of occurrence, increased patrols and attention are recommended in the following areas: -The East 1 commercial PVAs including Lowes Hardware, Northcross Lanes Bowling Alley and the Northcross Shopping Center, on all days of the week and between the hours of 1230 to 2130. -Continued patrols of restaurant PVAs on Northcross Dr on all days of the week between the hours of 1700 2100. There was one incident reported in the Outback Steakhouse PVA in April. -Based on past trends, continued patrols of all parks in Huntersville including the Aquatics Center is recommended. Targeted times for the parks are on weekdays during the evening hours (1700-2200) and on weekends during the daytime hours (1300 1800).
Forecast for May: The average number of Auto B&Es for the month of May is 35 plus or minus 22. By the end of May, there is a 68% chance HPD will have received between 13 and 57 reported Auto B&Es. This large range of 13 to 57 is attributed to an unusually high number of Auto B&Es (85) that occurred in May 2005. In May 2013, we will more than likely experience a number of Auto B&Es less than the average which is 35.
