Friday December 7, 2012 Schedule/Plan 9:15-9:30- Take attendance and lunch count.

Have the children complete morning seat work. Have the children eat their breakfast. 9:30-9:45-Morning meeting: Go over schedule and objectives for the day. Phonemic Awareness: o Materials: worksheet o Objective: The students will blend sounds to read simple one-syllable words and understand that as the letters of a word change, so do the sounds. They will also write consonant-vowel-consonant words. o Procedure: Say the words: Can, man, and tap. Have the children say the words. Point out that can and man rhyme because they both end in /an/. Tap does not rhyme with can and man because it ends in /ap/. Tell the students that you are going to say sets of words. They are going to tell you the words that rhyme in the group of words. Say: man, mat, and ran; nan, pan, and pat; ran, ram, and can; sad, sam, and mad; can, cat, and sat; an, tap, and man; dad, pad, and pan; nan, nap, and tap. o Assessment: The children will identify rhyming words in word families during group discussion. o Extra: Show the children the worksheet. Model how to complete it. Show how to say the sound of the first letter, add the an; write the word, blend the sounds to read the word, and draw a picture 9:45-10:15- Small groups: Two groups to Title I, Other groups: Leveled readers and Orton Gillingham. 10:15-10:35- Calendar, weather High-frequency words: o Materials: sight word cards o Objective: The students will read high frequency words o Procedure: Show the students the word cards. Have them read the words and spell the words on their arms. Place the word cards in the pocket chart. Make the sentence He ran to the store. Have the students read the sentence aloud. Have a volunteer come up to the pocket chart and read the sentence while pointing to the words. Make the sentence A dog can come to the farm. Have a voluneteer come up to the pocket chart and read the sentence while pointing to the words. 10:35-11:05- Phonics Materials: Letter cards, Ii worksheet Objective: The students will associate the /i/ sound with the letter I. They will also decode short vowel /i/ I words. Procedure: Show the students the letter Ii card. Have them tell you the letter and the sound. Have the students tell you if the /i/ sound comes in the beginning

or middle of a word. Have the students decode the sounds in the word sit, tip, sip, pin, etc. Review the rest of the letters they have learned and the sounds. Show the students the worksheet. Tell the children that they will color the pictures with the /i/ sound in them. They will circle the words with /i/ in the beginning of the word and underline the words with /i/ in the middle of the word. Have the children go back to their seats and pass out the worksheets. Assessment: Have the students complete the worksheet to show that they understand when /i/ comes in the beginning or middle of a word. Extra: Ii worksheet 11:05-11:35- Lunch 11:35-12:00- Story & Vocabulary Materials: Book: Sparky & Eddie: The First Day of School, Smartboard, worksheet Objective: The students will listen and respond to a story and summarize a story. Procedure: Remind the children that they can summarize a story by telling the important things that happen in it. Tell them that summarizing as they read or listen can help them understand the story. Review what happened in the beginning, middle, and end in the story Chicken Chickens Go to School. Tell them that after you read the story you will fill out a story map like you had when you read that story. Pause occasionally as you read to summarize the story. Fill in story map as you read. After you read have the children use their own words to summarize the story. Compare this story with the story Jessica. Say: Both stories are about going to school for the first time. Discuss how first days are alike and different. Show the students the worksheet. Tell them that they will be comparing the two stories on the worksheet. Assessment: The students will summarize and compare stories by participating in group discussion and completing the worksheet. Extra: Have the children draw their favorite part of the story in their notebooks to summarize the story. 12:00-12:30: Math Materials: Ten frames, counters, crayons, worksheet, SmartBoard Objective: The children will tell whether a number from 1 through 10 is greater than or less than 5 and whether it is less than 10. Procedure: Draw a ten frame on the board. Draw four counters on the ten-frame and ask children how many counters there are. Write four next to the ten-frame. Talk about whether 4 counters are more than 5 or less than 5. Repeat the activity with 7 counters. Talk about whether 7 counters are more or fewer than 5 counters and whether 7 counters are fewer than 10 counters. Have children get in partners. Give each pair 4 ten-frames, and number cards 19. Have them face the cards facedown. Have children take turns drawing a car and representing that number with counters on the ten frame. They will then draw and color the counters on the ten frame and write the number next to it. Have the children circle numbers that are greater than five and x ones that are less than 5. When children are done, pass out the math worksheets. Have them

color the correct number of circles in the ten frames. On the front, have them circle the numbers less than five. On the back, have them circle the numbers greater than 5. Assessment: Have the children show their understanding by completing the workbook page and playing the game with their partner. Extra: Have the children come on the carpet and play the mystery number game 12:30-1:00: Gym 1:00-1:30: Finish work from before Gym Christmas craft Materials: Pictures, video, elf shapes, glue, scissors. Procedure: Have the children come to the carpet. Show them the elf video. Tell them that they will be making themselves into elves. Show them the pieces of the elf project. Have them go back to their seats. Pass out the pictures and construction paper materials. Have them get glue and scissors. Have them glue together their elves. Collect and hang in the hallway. 1:30-1:45- Snack 1:45-2:00- Recess 2:00-2:30- Finish elf craft Extra: Christmas counting worksheets 2:30-3:00- Centers 3:00 3:20 Prepare for Dismissal: Students clear off desks Pass out any mail Collect items from cubby Color in their behavior chart on their folder either green, yellow, or red. **Walkers, bus riders and students attending the Latch Key program may leave. Students getting picked up will wait in this classroom. You are responsible for supervising students leaving through the door that leads outside. Turn on television for students waiting in this classroom. Students are to go to their designated areas. 3:30 End of the school day
