In 2013, many new public buildings that are the fruits of architecture competitions have opened or will soon open their doors: the new Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium (in Mercier Hochelaga-Maisonneuve) was inaugurated in the spring, the Bibliothque du Bois (in Saint-Laurent) will open this summer, and the Bibliothque Marc-Favreau (in RosemontLa PetitePatrie), which is still being built, will welcome its first users in the fall. The STM, a partner in several cultural and sports events, will be showing off its singular greendesign furniture at the Design Montral Open House info centre, outside the Mont-Royal mtro. The transit commission hired young local creatorsthe agency La Camaraderie (Albane Guy) and Mouvement Cratif (Vincent Vandenbrouck)to fashion furniture out of materials from decommissioned buses, parts of mtro cars. The resulting creations are both functional and highly original.

Visitors will have the chance to meet the people behind Mr. Laportes creations and hear their stories. Most Montrealers may not know who he was, yet theyve spent time with him on many occasions: this inveterate dneur-en-ville designed some of the citys most beautiful restaurants, where, every evening, the spectacle of life la montralaise begins anew. Catalyse Urbaine is the winning agency in the cross-Canada urban design competition to renew the district known as Le Triangle.
