Vulnerable Sector Check All volunteers and community members working within schools in the Upper Canada District School Board are required to have a Vulnerable Sector Check on file at the school before they begin interacting with students. The checks are valid for two years from the date of issue. The forms are available through the school office. You must present photo ID to the police. We appreciate your cooperation in helping to keep our children safe. Please Note! All visitors entering the school MUST come to the office and sign in before proceeding within the school.

QAO begins at the end of the month. Staff and students have been preparing all year for these days. Our Grade 3 and 6 students will continue to have practice sessions right up to their dates. We will be discussing more about the testing with the children as the time approaches. Please call if you have questions or concerns. We also appreciate you not scheduling dentist, doctor and other appointments within this time period. Grade 3 students will write during the week of May 27th. Grade 6 students will begin on June 4th. Extra water bottles and snacks would be appreciated during these days. If you are planning to attend your childs class trip, you are reminded that you must have a current Criminal Reference Check on file at the office. A criminal reference check can sometimes take up to six weeks, so now is the time to get it done. Forms are available in the office. When you drop them and your identification off at the local police station, do tell them that you are volunteering in a school. A personal thank you to our wonderful Grade 8 class, led by Mr. Chalmers, who were exceptional with creating eight rounds of trivia questions for our Trivia Night. Special thanks to Agnes and Allie who were terrific Emcees (loved the outfits!), to Kara and Selena for their marking and patience as we sorted out a few questionable answers, and to Waylon, who added the scores and took care of the canteen for us, then, par usual, helped with the cleanup. I am so very proud of our students. To the donors, event planners, and sponsors, thank you as well. We are truly The Place to Bee due in large part to your generosity and commitment to our school community. Together we make our community strong. Together we make our community our home.

Perth Kilt Run 2013

The Perth World Record Kilt Run, taking place on Saturday, June 22nd, 2013, is in recognition and celebration of the 800th anniversary of the founding of Perth, Scotland. The run takes place through the fully closed streets of historic downtown Perth, Ontario, and along the banks of the Tay River. The Perth Kilt Run Committee is once more demonstrating its commitment to the community by instituting Cheering Stations for the Perth Kilt Run, and Drummond Central School has again been invited to be one of these Cheering Stations! The recognition comes with cash prizes for the best cheering station, to invest in a community (or school) project. Last years first place prize was $1,000and we won! Having had tremendous fun at last years event, we are challenging all DCS friends, family and neighbours to get involved again this year! Volunteers will need to get to the cheering station before 5:30 p.m., get organized with music, noisemakers and costumes, and stay in place until the last runner has passed. We will update you with more news as it is received.

Host Parents Needed for Japanese Students News from the Learning Commons
Can you believe it is already May? Where has the time gone? What a great year we had in the Learning Commons (a.k.a. Library) this year. Everyone has been great about bringing their books back on time, and by helping to keep the room tidy when I am not here. It warms my heart, seeing how much you respect the LC, thanks so much. Now, to make sure that ALL books are back before we leave for the summer, the last day for book exchange will be Friday, June 14th. This will give you two weeks to return all your books and have a clear account starting in the new school year. It is very important that all Grade 8 students have clear accounts before starting Grade 9. Thanks again everyone for a terrific year. Ms. Sharron Gow, Learning Commons Informationist.
