ST.

MARYS TARDINESS POLICY Mornings begin when teachers escort students from the cafeteria or EDP room to the classrooms for the official 8:00 am start of the school day. Students then follow a structured morning routine as they unpack their bags, pass in their homework, complete a curriculum-focused assignment, and organize themselves for a successful school day. Tardiness puts a student at a disadvantage, and to the detriment of other students, late arrivals also disrupt the flow of work in the classroom. Students with unexcused tardies are required to make up lost instructional time and may loose privileges for planned special activities. Teachers appreciate the cooperation and support of parents by helping to establish good attendance and punctuality patterns at an early age. What is a tardy? A student is considered tardy if he or she arrives at school after 8:00 AM and has missed the classroom door check-in.

Excused Tardy An excused tardy will not result in a loss of privileges. However, the student will be required to make up missed work.

Unexcused Tardy Repetitive, unexcused tardies will result in a series of consequences (see Consequences section). The student will also be required to make up missed work.

Examples: Examples: Doctors note for appointment or illness/injury. Bereavement/family funeral Major religious observance Extraordinary family circumstances (excused at the discretion of the principal) Repetitive tardies without a doctors note. Undocumented tardies

*Communication by a parent or guardian is required for all excused tardies. This may be done in person, through email, or by phone call or written note.

What are the consequences of unexcused tardies? Each week a new tally of tardies begins. Every Monday, students begin the week with a clean slate. 1st Tardy per week 2nd Tardy per week 3rd Tardy per week Email sent to parent Parent-teacher meeting or phone call to discuss concerns Student makes up missed time at recess. *In Grades 4-8, there is a limit to how many unexcused tardies a student can receive in a month. If a student accumulates twelve unexcused tardies in a month, he or she will receive a detention of a length equal to the amount of school time missed, in addition to loss of privileges for special school activities. Ex. If a student was tardy a total of 45-minutes in a month, he or she would have a 45-minute detention. Appendix C: Asbestos Management Plan St. Mary of the Assumption School Asbestos Management (AHERA) In compliance with the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Management Act (AHERA 40 Part 763 of Title ll), the school has an Asbestos Management Plan which is overseen by Covino Environmental Associates, Inc. of Woburn, MA
