Subway Station
Option 2: Airport / Hotel Shuttle Several shuttle services operate between the airports and downtown, approximate cost of $32 from OHare or $27 from Midway. Contact GO Airport Express at www.airportexpress.com or 888-284-3826 to make a reservation.
Option 1: The Blue Line Subway The subway station at OHare is located in the front of the domestic terminals directly below the Metro Center. From all terminals, follow the overhead signs to the CTA - Trains to City. For international arrivals, take the Airport Transit System (ATS) tram to Terminal 2 where you can make your way to the subway station. Purchase a ticket for the subway at the ticket machine. One way tickets from OHare to downtown are $5 and are inserted into the turnstiles. Proceed downstairs to the platform and take the next train. See next page for detail instructions for getting from Clark/Lake Station.
Subway Station
Option 1: The Orange Line Subway The subway station at Midway is accessible via the overhead walkway from the main parking garage. Purchase a ticket for the subway from a ticket machine inside the station. One way tickets from Midway to downtown are $2.25 and are inserted into the turnstiles. Proceed down to the platform and take the next train towards the Loop. See the next page for detail instructions for getting from the elevated stations to the hotel.
Option 3: Taxi Taxis are readily available at the airport. Fares from OHare to downtown run over $50, from Midway around $35
Riding the CTA - General Information about Fares and using the Fare Cards
The CTA uses a fare card system. You can obtain a fare card at the machines in the lobby of any subway station. Fare cards can store either cash value for pay-as-you-ride or day/week passes for unlimited travel. Once you have purchased a fare card, you can keep it your entire stay in the city and add money to it as needed. Cards are inserted into the turnstiles at subway stations or in bus fare boxes. In Chicago, you just pay to enter the system, you do not pay to exit. For the pay as you go method, $2.25 is deducted ($5 at OHare Airport) from your Transit Card. Within the next two hours, if you use the system again, you will be charged $0.25 for the first transfer and the second transfer is free. The fare-gates at all the subway stations and the buses accept the paper transit cards with the magnetic strip or the plastic cards with the contact chip. The paper transit cards are inserted in the slot on the top of the fare-gate, be sure to remove once it pops back up. Keep the card as it retains any remaining cash value. If needed for future excursions, more money can be added at any fare machine. If you obtain a plastic fare card (such as pre-ording via transitchicago.com), these plastic fare cards are tapped on the round sensor on the fare machine (do not insert into slot). The screen will display the remaining value on the card and more value or passes can be added at any fare machine. Most fare machines do not accept credit cards, only cash, so keep that in mind. The larger stations will generally have a credit-card accepting fare machine. For those who plan to explore the city, the CTA offers a selection of passes that give you unlimited use of the bus and subway system. These passes include a 1-day pass for $10, a 3-day pass for $20 and 7 day pass $28 and can be purchased at select Currency Exchanges, Jewel and Dominicks food stores, CVS Pharmacies, Walgreens. Only selected train stations have the special CTA Pass Vending Machines, this does include OHare & Midway.
Visit transitchicago.com for detailed info and maps of Chicagos Public Transportation System Buy your Transit Card On-line and get it in the mail within 10 days!
