Front Sheet

Scenario In your work as a mechanical technician, you may have to deal with a variety of physical concepts in mechanical science, in particular the concept of the pressure at a point at a certain depth in a fluid . As part of your course you are required to prove your abilities to apply this concept to calculate the pressure exerted on any object submerged under any fluid , such as calculating the pressure exerted on divers and submarines at any depth under water. This can be achieved through solving the following task:

1 of 2

Task 1:
A. Define the following parameters and specify their SI Units (if any):
1.

[ P6 ]

Density. Relative density.

2.

B.

Find the pressure on a scuba diver when he is 12 meters below the surface of the ocean. Assume standard atmospheric conditions where : the atmospheric pressure is 1.01 x 105 N/m2. Also assume that: the density of sea water is 1.03 X 10 3 kg/m3 the gravitational acceleration = 9.81 m / s 2
