Readathon
Thank you to everybody who took part in the Readathon. You raised a phenomenal 705.02 for sick children. This is 177.52 more than last year which was already fantastic! All monies will go to Roald Dahls Marvellous Childrens Charity, CLIC Sargent and Readwell. I hope you enjoyed reading all of the 200 books and more which were read during the holidays by the 40 children who handed in sponsorship money. The class who had the greatest number of sponsored readers was Miss Sheppards Year 2, so well done to you! The people with the most sponsors were Lily and Tom Edwards with nine each. The people who read the most books were Harry and George Bloomfield in KS1, Lucy Allan-Jones in KS2 and Ijeoma Ogbogbo in KS3. What a tremendous thing to give so much money to charity. Just think if we continue like this, in two years we will raise 1000+! Ms Case

Ascension Day Service at 7.30 am!

The boarders, house staff, Mr & Mrs Tovey and Mrs Warn took part in the Ascension Day service on the bridge leading into top field. The short service was taken by Mr Tovey. Mrs Warn and Abigail Blackwell accompanied the singing on the guitar and recorder. The tradition of the early morning service on Ascension Day was started by Mr Gordon Tovey (who attended Cambridge University) and has been carried on throughout the 66 years of the school. An early morning service is said to be held on a bridge in Cambridge on Ascension Day hence the connection here at TMS!

Monday 6th May

We had a very successful Open Morning on Monday. There were many families interested in all areas of the school. Year 7 were fantastic hosts in showing round the prospective parents and pupils. Well done to all of them for being so very keen and enthusiastic. Also, 6th May was the day Tockington Manor School opened in 1947. Happy 66th Birthday, TMS!

Brian Clare It was with great sadness that we learnt of the recent death of Brian Clare. Brian was one of our longstanding school minibus drivers who was with us for many years. Our thoughts are with his family and especially with his son Paul who is one of our current drivers.

Year 5 Traffic Study

Year 5 worked hard on their data collection for their enquiry on the type and volume of traffic on Washingpool Hill Road on Friday 10th May. 115 vehicles passed us between 8.30-9.00 am, as opposed to just 44 between 9.00-9.30 am. We discovered that the most common make of car was Ford with 23 of the 131 cars that passed. Seven farm vehicles were recorded over the hour. We are enjoying compiling our project." Ellie Parker.
