Welcome and Pledge of Suzanne Newton, Pledge of Allegiance recited by those attending. David Hosea led the pledge. Allegiance (10 a.m. start Chair time) Introductions Suzanne Newton, Rosana Gabaldon is running for Sahuarita Town Council. Chair Rosana described her campaign, her need for volunteers, •New PCs and her need for financial support. Motion made by Laura •Rosana Gabaldon Hogan for LD30 to provide $150 to support her campaign. Question: How much is in our bank account? Alex Mich: $631 and change is now available. Question: it’s a nonpartisan election; are we going to create more problems once this becomes public? Jim Woodbrey emphasized need Motion to table called and carried. to support. Pat Canady and Bonnie Richards both urged individuals to support Rosana individually. Suzanne Newton suggested tabling the motion until after treasurer’s report and further time for discussion if available. More campaign information followed. Minutes from the last meeting in February were posted on Motion to approve minutes made, Approval of Minutes Jen Prileson, 30dems.blogspot.com, but there was an unexpected delay; seconded and passed. Hired executive director – Committee Report needs to be paid; need to fundraise at county and district State Committee Report level; Report from state meeting: Don Bivens elected; took a long time but now new chair working hard, taking time to visit and if we want can come to speak with us; working on fundraisers and a budget; next month – need suggestions; will do committee work each month; into second quarter of year already and need to get busy; 14 new PCs since the beginning of the year. Next executive meeting is this coming Monday. We need ideas for fund-raisers. Please send your ideas to the executive committee. DWIA (Laurie): 4/24, Arizona ACLU director will speak; will be recertified shortly SED (Laura Hogan): Fundraiser 4/25 : Show: ‘FireSide Chats from FDR’; granddaughter of FDR will lead discussion afterwards BAJA(Laura Hogan): Would like to get active again; purpose is to coordinate all clubs in southern AZ; will be part of the 5/7 fundraiser with Terry Goddard Announcements Suzanne Newton, Don Kret – met with all 3 LD 30 reps; was there as one of Chair several from Pima County Council on aging; state legislative cuts very likely for elderly – anything that isn’t mandated by feds – example of foster children subsidies; urged us to write letters, stand up for these programs to support elderly – the biggest voting bloc. Sam (last name?) – PT field director for Rosana’s race; needs volunteers to make calls and walks. Vera Berkman – Officeholder’s Expense Fund – those who hold a state level office don’t get any $ in budget for miscellaneous personal, position-related expenses expenses - are permitted to ask individuals up to $70; asked for donations for Terry Goddard Steve Gall announced his wife was now a PC and introduced her. Adam (last name?) (from Dem HQ) – announced upcoming visit from Sen. George McGovern who is on book tour. State committee meeting will be May 9 in Tucson – we need help (20 volunteers for registration, to start at 9 am); location TBD. Don Kret – wanted to remind us to attend the state meeting given the low turnout at last November’s Tucson meeting.
