ATHLETICS MANAGER BOB MELVIN: On whether he felt like the game was essentially over after the 1st inning: Well, it feels that way when youre not getting any hits and youre not getting any opportunities, and you just shut down. Its not for a lack of effort. Guys are still fighting and trying. When you dont get anything, it feels that way. On summing up the entire road-trip: It didnt work out how we would have liked after New York. On how much of an impact all of the Athletics injuries has had on their play: Im aware of that. It gives other guys opportunities to perform. There are other teams that have injuries too. We have to grind through it. We have to find ways to win some games and then get our guys back. Thats what were trying to do right now. You cant look back and make excuses based on the personnel you have. On what he saw that was going on with Milone in the 1st inning: Saunders has a good at-bat, gets a hit. Then, [Milone] gets Bay out. I think the Seager at-bat was probably the one that got him in the wrong direction, and then, Morales hits a decent pitch thats down for a 3-0 lead, and that was the biggest at-bats of the game. But I think that putting the second guy on, even though from our angle, it looks like theyre close pitches, Tommy typically pitches to the corners, maybe they were just off. And Morales has the impact at-bat of the game.
