Weak, overused plot dooms Doomsday film at box office

The end is nigh. Hmm . . . Ive heard this before. It seems that every three months, another horror/ thriller/action/sci-fi something-or-other is released to warn us about the variety of different diseases that will destroy the world. Doomsday is yet another version of this popular trend in science-fiction, and it is not near as impressive as its brothers. In fact, it blatantly copies aspects of these popular films, namely the 28 Days/Weeks Later series badly. Even the viruses have similar names. In fact, the most irritating part is that I expected much better from writer/director Neil Marshall, who is responsible for the original and terrifying (and personal favourite) The Descent. Im actually finding it difficult to decide where to begin, and wondering if my word limit will be sufficient. Perhaps Ill begin by attempting to explain the Why? Apparently they believe that civilizations on the other side have a cure. They send Eden Sinclair (Rhona Mitra, one of the few redeeming qualities of the film) and an elite squadron of special police to retrieve the cure, but are ambushed by a punch of punk rockers . . . or cannibals . . . or punk rock cannibals . . . no one is really sure what they are, just that theyre alive, ticked off, and hungry for humans. Other civilizations, nonpunk rock ones, are found. They live in a castle. Its like Medieval Times, except no free food, funny hats or admission fee. The castle is explained, but never the full adoption of a Medieval Society. Apparently none of these details are important, similar to any character development or back-story, or story at all (save a few short scenes). The film tries desperately to be original, but only manages to be infuriating and even incomprehensible at times. I have no clue why they dress as punk rockers. Most of the serious action made me snicker, as did the concept that this film is anything more than a straightto-DVD piece of trash. Skip it, I beg of you.

KATIE BRADFORD plot; attempting because I hardly understand it myself. Apparently, a virus broke out in Great Britain the worst of which in Scotland which causes boils, murderous rampages, and throwing up of various liquids. The UK government sectioned off Scotland with a very large wall a-la Berlin and left the Scots to be killed off. They then went on to live happily in an overpopulated, unemployed, poverty stricken utopia. In 2035 the virus breaks out in the safe zone, and they decide its time to venture back across the wall.
