PANEL BRIDGE DESIGN

BASIS OF DESIGN
Code of practice

Components and main members are designed to codes of practice

The Panel type bridge is not covered by standard codes of practice

Testing

The compact 200 Panel bridge has

been comprehensively tested by MabeyBridge and by Independent Authorities - Individual Components have been tested - Full scale static load tests for both bending and shear capacities - Fatigue tests

Testing of individuals components Deck Unit tested with different load patches including HA and HA + 30HB

Basis of Design

Full scale static tests of Compact 200 bridging

Basis of Design

Fatigue tests were carried out so that the number of loading cycles can be determined for each bridging solution

Compact 200 panel bridging is designed for standard highway loads (eg. HS20 and HA)

or special vehicle loads

Design Process

Mabey Bridge Engineers carry out detailed designs using a number of software packages and calculations when required

1. The abutment details shown on this drawing are those that are geometrically required to accommodate the bridge superstructure. 2. 3. 4. The foundations are to be constructed by others, using good quality concrete. 5. The foundation bolts are to be supplied locally, by others. 6. back wall reinforcement should be bent clear of the bridge during launching, and should be omitted completely in areas where jacks are to be used. 7. the span of the bridge and cater for thermal expansion appropriate to the local temperature range. It is essential that all of the bearings on an abutment are set at the same level in order to avoid maldistribution of stresses in the bridge trusses. 9. Drawn By Checked By 10. Launch & Erection Schemes

L&E schemes are produced using an in-house programme. Details of the bridge are entered into the interface shown below:

Launch & Erection Schemes

Once all the required information has been entered the programme produces a spread sheet containing the information required to launch the specific bridge.
