Gee Comments 1
Gee Comments 1
OSU President Gordon Gee is talking out of both sides of his mouth.
While serving as co-chairman of a newly formed partnership of public research universities pushing to
reduce the nation's reliance on foreign oil, develop renewable energy, and to facilitate the move to the
new green economy, he is being paid nearly $200,000 a year for serving on the board of Massey Energy,
a coal company with one of the nation's worst environmental records.
Massey Energy's shameful record:
He is not just a college administrator – he is the public face of our state’s largest
university and a newly named leader in the renewable energy and green jobs
movement.
Tell Gordon Gee it's time to put his money where his mouth is and resign from the
Board of Massey Energy.
As the president of Ohio's largest university, & a, supposed, leader in the renewable energy &
green jobs movement, isn't it more then time for you to resign from the board of Massey
Energy?? ‐ Karla, 43015
How pathetic that a man of so little character and principle can speak for a University. Let Gee
collect his $200,000 from a predatory coal company and resign from his OSU position...I don't
want my tax money going to him. ‐ Dolores, 43016
As a former resident of West Virginia, I implore you to sever your relationship with this company.
There is absolutely no excuse for the lack of mine safety in an industry which is one of the most
dangerous. There is no excuse for blatant environmental pollution of this magnitude. ‐ JoAnn,
43017
Dear Mr.Gee,
It is time to put integrity before greed. There is an obvious conflict of interest between your paid
position on the Board of Massey Energy and your paid position as head of a university dedicated
to the research of renewal energy and enviromental protection. You are first and foremost an
agent of Ohio State University. It is their interests you should be representing. As an Ohio tax
payer, I demand no less. ‐ Barbara, 43017
Just another example of People who sell themselves. Doesn't any one of our leaders have any
SELF RESPECT, and a Set of Principles that promotes their community, and our children's future, or
are they all just for SALE? Enjoy your money Gordon, maybe there will an Armored car following
your hearse. ‐ Dawn, 43017
Your intentions and your actions must be in accord (the same), to do and act otherwise is devious
and not what we must expect from you. Please don't be deceitful, resign from the board of
Massey Energy. ‐ Genevieve, 43017
If this is accurate, you are indeed speaking out of both sides of your mouth. That is a political
attribute but not one I associate with the head of OSU. Please reconsider your position on this
board. Thank you. ‐ mary, 43021
Let's finally get rid of these Conflicts of Interest, President Gee. It's a national problem, and you
can be a leader of the much‐needed reform! ‐ Eric and Kate, 43022
While I find your return to OSU regrettable and your contributions to genuine progress their
negligible, the least you can do is try to not be quite so publicly hypocritical.
I don't expect you to make any kind of truly creative or forward looking contribution to the
partnership of public research universities efforts to reduce oil dependency, but the least you can
do is resign your position on Massey Energy's board and pretend you are about something other
than self‐engrandizement. ‐ Chista, 43022
Being a leader in renewable energy and green jobs should exlude representing a company with
the history of Massey Energy. Where is your integrety? ‐ Dianne, 43026
Please sever your ties with Massey and work toward clean energy. ‐ Judith, 43004
Please lend your voice to renewable energy, not dirty coal with such a vile history. ‐ Jean, 43014
I am deeply disappointed in someone of you stature to affliate and work for such aweful
company. I no longer have any respect for you and I hope sooner than later you'll realize that the
$200,000 you get from serving on their board will NOT better the welfare of society, it's people or
you in the long run. You should be ashame of yourself, your no better than George Bush. ‐ dae,
43026
I know your an intelligent person and by serving for the board of Massey Engery, I do believe your
highly aware of their enviromental violations.
I am deeply disappointed in someone of you stature to affliate and work for such aweful

43026
Please use integrity in your decision making. Be a pioneer and leader in our efforts to protect our
planet! ‐ rebecca, 43026
I think you need to be straight with the people and tell them you are on the Board of Massey
Energy!! (your credibility is at stake, you know). ‐ Danielle, 43028
As an OSU alumni, I think it is totally inappropriate for you to be serving as the President of the
largest university in Ohio and also serving on the board of Massey Energy. Massey Energy has a
deplorable environmental record and is doing more to pollute the land and waters of this nation
that most energy companies. If you truly believe in the development of green energy and the
creation of green jobs, you will resign your position on Massey's Board. Please act responsibly. ‐
Jenifer, 43031
As an OSU alum I urge you to quit the board of Massey immediately! ‐ rick, 43040
Mr. Gee,
I find your involvement with Massey to be repugnant. A coal miner works to support his family. I
am sure that my Alma Mater pays you enough money to support yours. Quit with the money grab
and double talk. ‐ Zachary, 43040
Give it up Gee ‐ Lance, 43050
Mr. Gee...
It simply doesn't make sense for you to speak of environmental responsibility while
simultaneously getting paid by a company that has no concern for it. Please align your actions and
words, otherwise we have no reason to trust what you say.
Thank you. ‐ Holli, 43050
Dr. Gee,
You get paid quite enough by ThE Ohio State University. You need to concentrate on OSU. You DO
NOT need to serve on ANY for profit boards of directors. Stop with this Wall Street mentally of
making all of the money you possibly can.
Resign now!! ‐ David, 43055
Shameful. How much money is enough? ‐ alvin, 43062
As an alumni of OSU, OSU's leadership in shifting our economy toward green energy and green
jobs is crucial. And you are at the helm.
I urge you to resign from Massey Energy's Board of Directors to demonstrate your full
commitment to developing green energy.
Thank you for your consideration. ‐ Marilyn, 43078
I have a real problem supporting a public employee in a position where he or she is being paid by
a private enterprise. ‐ Elmo, 43078
you have a conflict of interest ‐RESIGN!!!!!
FROM MASSSEY ENERGY....STOP Being GREEDY ‐ jim, 43078
Dr Gee,
I was pleased to learn that you were serving as co‐chairman of a newly formed partnership of
public research universities pushing to reduce the nation’s reliance on foreign oil and develop
renewable energy. But, in turn, I learned that you were serving on the board of directors for
Massey Energy. Certainly, you must be aware of how conflicting that arrangement is! Don't you
think that you could give advise to Massey without being identified with their terrible record on
the environment? Thank yo for listening. ‐ Dennis, 43081
I am a Buckeye and I do not believe you should be on the Board of Massey Energy. There
methods of coal mining are harmful to the United States. Your association with Massey may
come back and harm the good name of OHIO STATE. Please resign. ‐ Ellen, 43081
While it is hard to believe that you were unaware of the abuses of Massey Energy, I am choosing
to believe this to be so. Please resign. ‐ carolyn, 43081
AS a former student in the OSU MBA program, I ask that you resign from the board of Massey
Energy. I think you were a good president of OSU the last time around, but this time it seems that
money is at the heart of your interests. Surely the state is providing enough (too much?) to you.
You don't need another $200K from a questionable coal company. ‐ Rita, 43082
I feel that Gordon Gee has shown more interest in accumulating personal wealth than he has to
any of our many significant social causes. His role as a director with Massey Energu is further
evidence of this behavior. His track record leaving OSU in the 90's for Brown, Vanderbilt and back
to OSU only substantiates my personal view. ‐ Anita, 43082
As a lifelong resident of Columbus, Ohio and a Capital University student living on Ohio State's
campus I realize what an impact OSU has on the surrounding area. Your presidency reflects not
only upon the Ohio State University but also upon the entire central Ohio community. While
being on the payroll of Massey or associated with them at all you cannot truly fulfill your duty to
end the toleration of anthropogenic degradation of our planet ‐ Jackson, 43085
Dear Dr. Gee:
I do not think it proper to take money from a coal company and represent an environmental issue
at the same time.
Ken Johnsen ‐ Kenneth, 43085
Hypocrite! ‐ Don, 43085
President Gee,
As an OSU alum (2 degrees from OSU), and founder of a Central Ohio grassroots sustainability
group, I know that OSU is committed to improving its sustainability profile. One big way is to use
less coal and to not remove mountaintops.
If you really support OSU's public efforts to improve sustainability, I would hope you'd use your
position on the Massey Board to push them to become a more sustainable company by not
removing mountaintops which is extremely harmful to the local environment, and to diversify to
develop other renewable energy generation methods.
To show you support your university's position of increasing sustainable power generation and
use, I suggest you forgo the money that Massey gives you until they stop mountaintop removal.
Stay on their board, gratis, as a voice for improvement, showing you do not approve of Massey's
current performance by not taking money from them. Or, if you prefer, donate all of the money
they pay you to renewable energy causes.
Respectfully,
Fred Yaeger Jr
(BS Math '68, MS CIS '73) ‐ Fred, 43085
President Gee,
Having 2 degrees from OSU and being a lifetime resident of Central Ohio and being a co‐founder
of local grassroots sustainability organization, I find your association with Massey Energy to be
inconsistent with the positive attributes I expect of the President of OSU.
Please set a "renewable energy" example by severing your ties with Massey.
Fred Yaeger, BS Math '68, MS Computer Sci '73 ‐ Fred, 43085
Please reject hypocracy. Be consistant in word and deed. To be involved in the effort to reduce
our dependence on foreign oil does not suggest that promoting the use of dirty and destrustive
coal as a viable substitute! ‐ Thomas, 43103
PLEASE DO NOT BE A HYPOCRITE ‐ Jenine, 43113
Gordon ‐ how can you serve on the board of this organization? How could anybody serve on this
board. This organization should be sactioned and you should severe all ties with it. ‐ Gretchen,
43119
How can you possibly be a part of a company that engages in mountain top coal removal
techniques? This rape of our environment has to stop. ‐ Diana, 43119
Our actions speak louder than words. ‐ Andrew, 43130
I am disappointed to learn that you receive $200,000./year from Massey Energy. A company that
has little to no regard for the environment and the people who live in the area and work for
Massy. I hope you will reconsider your relationship with this destructive, negligent company.
Otherwise, the only reason I see for your continued relationship is GREED! ‐ Wendy, 43147
We, my sister, my father and myself were all OSU grads. I went to Al Gore's speech at OSU and
listened to you introduce him. I am outraged and sickened that you dishonor our state and our
school with your link to Massey Energy. Please do the right thing and resign immediately and
apologize to the people . ‐ Ann, 43147

This obvious conflict of interest (surely you can see this) needs immediate correction. ‐ Miriam,
43149
As an Ohio State Student, I would hope that you would avoid such conflicts of interest as being on
the board of a coal‐based energy company while claiming to be interested in cleaner energy.
Which is it? ‐ Sean, 43201
Dear Mr. Gee,
I believe you were chosen to return to OSU for a reason. I also understand there are several sides
to every story, however, I would seriously consider how your connection with Massey "appears."
To me, $200,000/year is more than I will probably ever make, however, you could resign from that
board position and still have a very comfortable existence. Please don't lose sight of the planet
from that ivory tower ‐ you live on it too.
Thanks. ‐ Tabitha, 43201
Given your public relations acumen, this should be a "no brainer". ‐ Timothy, 43201
I am very interested in knowing what you have done as a board member, to resist the destruction
of our mountains? ‐ Ellie, 43201
Of course in your old age you would become callous and inconsiderate of generations that follow
you ‐ you obviously do NOT care about the serene beauty that most find when they walk
throughout Appalachia. If you have children, have you brought them up to be as material as
yourself?
You don't deserve the term "scholar" or "PhD" A scholar would know that mountain top removal
causes flooding, land loss (which means people's homes and land), and let's face it, leaves a once
beautiful mountain looking pretty ugly as well as the landscape. A scholar would look at all of the
facts presented and do what is best for the whole ‐ not just one slice of the pie (yourself and your
small realm of family). I bet you were pretty proud of yourself the day you were appointed
president of one of the largest universities ‐ not because of all of the humanitarian and scholarly
things you would be able to do, but because you knew that you could push your own agenda to fill
up your pockets. Did you write, "...and put him in pants with pockets and teach him to fill them
up." Basically, Gee, resign resign resign. Did I mention you should do the right thing and just
resign? By the way, STOP FUCKING UP THE PLANET!! ‐ Steph, 43201
Please resign from Massey. This is hypocrisy! Thank you. ‐ ricky, 43201
Please take responsibility for your words and act on them. Stop taking funding to sit for something
that is harming me, my family, you and your family and all our relatives that share this planet with
us. I hope you listen to reason and that is where your conscience as well. ‐ Aaron, 43201
Please use your very public leadership position for the good of our community, state and country.
Set a positive example for the future by resigning from Massey. ‐ Judi, 43201
President Gee please resign from this terrible board. ‐ Mark, 43201
President Gee,
I love you, but please don't serve on this board. Do the right thing.

What kind of message are you sending to our young people? To be consistent, you must resign
from the board of Massey Energy. ‐ Barbara, 43201
Why are you retaining your board seat with Massey? Your salary is public record. Surely the
money can mean little to you. Are you serious about finding green alternatives to our
dependence upon fossil fuels? ‐‐ or is this just a gesture to support a politically forward and
correct image at this time? ‐ Mark, 43201
Your work on the Massey Board seems a conflict of interest for the best interests of Ohio State
and other research universities looking to reduce their reliance on non‐renewable resources. ‐
Meghan, 43201
As an alumni of OSU, I'm asking you to resign from Massey. It's shameful to sit on the board of a
business that has such an ugly environmental and worker's rights record. ‐ Lee, 43202
As an Ohio citizen and an American deeply concerned about our national and state energy policies
and their environmental impact, I was horrified to learn of your ties with Massey Energy, a
company with disastrous environmental and safety records. I feel further compelled to write
because your relationship with Massey reflects so negatively on the other institution you
represent, The Ohio State University, with which I, too, have had long and deep ties. For honor's
sake, resign from your leadership position in one or the other organization. ‐ Ann, 43202
Dear Mr. Gee,
It is time to resign from the board of Massey Energy. This company has one of the worst
environmental records and partakes in the devastating process of mountaintop removal coal
mining. Massey Energy has used their considerable funds to back judges that will be friendly to
them and their practices, thus distorting democracy in West Virgina.
What sort of example are you setting to the students of your university ( of which I am an alumni)
when you speak about the need to invest in green technology but you serve on the board of such
a company? Is the lesson "Do as I say, not as I do" or perhaps it is "Money conquers all"?
I respectfully ask you to resign from Massey Energy.
Sincerely,
Kellie Brown ‐ Kellie, 43202
Dear President Gee,I plead for you to resign your position with Massey Energy! If you truly care
about your reputation and that of our great OSU, you will do this. Our city and country needs and
President Obama is making efforts to discontinue the works of this type of industry that will not
allow us to become independent from foreign oil and other energy sources. I know you care about
us, so please answer my(our)plea! M.Donaldson ‐ mary, 43202
Have some integrity. ‐ Lou, 43202
How can you possibly justify this. There really is no justification. It's disappointing, and shocking. ‐
Susan, 43202
I was shocked when I learned that you were on the board of a company with such a terrible
reputation. I strongly urge you to resign or give us a valid reason why you shouldn't! ‐ Linda,
43202
I'm an OSU alum and am ashamed of this clear conflict of interest. If you want to make the excuse
that you're serving on Massey's board to improve their environmental practices, then stop taking
money for your service. Surely you make enough from your OSU salary and all the other pots you
probably have your fingers in. ‐ Matthew, 43202
It does seem "massively" inconsistent for you to represent a university that is seeking greener
ways to operate and teaching the next generation of environmentally conscious scientists,
developers, and businesspeople while sitting passively on the board of an environmentally
monstrous company. ‐ Jan, 43202
It's time for you to actually do what you say you do. ‐ James, 43202
Please set a good example for our kids. Get on the good side. ‐ patrick, 43202
President Gee,
I am very dissappointed to learn of your associations with Massey Energy, a company with a very
disturbing track record of environmental degradation. As president of a leading scientific
research institution, you should be a part of the transition to an economy based on cleaner fuels.
Clean coal is a myth. It's like a healthy cigarette.
Dr. Gee, many of Ohio State leading researchers have been involved in climate change research
and worked with the IPCC. It is time for OSU to put that knowledge to action. As a university we
should ratify the recommendations of the IPCC and reduce our carbon emissions by 80% over the
next 50 years. Indeed it is a part of our mission as a land grant institution to spread the results of
research and change our practices accordingly. OSU should be a leader in dealing with climate
change. The worlds most noted authority on climate change, Dr James Hansen of NASA, said on
this campus last year that the most important thing that we can do to avert massive climate
change is to reduce or end our use of coal.
Be a good example Dr Gee. Don't take the coal industry's money. Work for a better future and a
stable climate for our grandchildren.
Thanks ‐ Joshua, 43202

Time to clean up your act, sir, and bring your actions in line with your intentions. ‐ Benjamin,
43202
Mr. Gee:
If am to believe these allegations I would be very disappointed in your poor decision and
hypocrisy.
You're income and lifestyle is likely in the top 1% of all humans on the planet and therefore carry a
greater burden of responsibility to humanity. So I ask you, are you being a responsible steward of
this planet by being a part of Massey Energy? if so, please explain.

Dear Mr. Gee,
I do not know a whole lot about this situation (only what Progress Ohio has sent me) but I am
concerned that you are receiving money from a coal company while helping to formulate a plan to
reduce our dependancy on foreign energy. I realize that coal is an abundant American resource
but I am stongly opposed to the terrible environment impact of using coal as an energy source. It
seems to me that if you are receiving money from a coal company, you will not be able to be
objective about the role of coal in the transition from foreign to domestic enery production.
Given this, I believe that you should resign from one committee or the other. If you would like to
e‐mail me directly with your take on this matter, I would be happy to concider it.
Sincerely,
Tom Jeffire ‐ Tom, 43220
Dr. Gee, your credibility suffers and you cannot be an example to the thousands of OSU students

horrific environmental policies espoused by Massey. Please decide which side of this issue you

I have respected your work here in Columbus at OSU. I can understand being on the board of
Massey Energy IF you are able to effect changes in their usual method of operations.
If you are not able to effect change, I suggest taking a stand and leaving their board. Some public

do you have a heart?
Quit the Massey Board. ‐ craig, 43224
As alumni of OSU and central Ohio environmental activist I am appalled by your involvement with
Massey Energy. I often read about OSU’s new Institute for Energy and the Environment (IEE) and
have been encouraged by this effort from the University however, you sitting on the board of
Massey Energy stands in opposition and in contradiction to the goals you yourself put forth on
IEE’s website. The ways of doing business is changing, the way politics work in this country is
changing; we need leadership who truly represent what they preach. ‐ Deb, 43224
RESIGN NOW. ‐ BETSY, 43224
You should be ashamed! ‐ Jan, 43224

Please consider the ethics of being a boardmember of a major, unrepentant polluter. ‐ MAX,

As a graduate of OSU, I was greatly disappointed to find out that you are sitting on the board
Massey Energy. I was glad you came back to the university, I felt you did a great many things for
us; like co‐chairing the newly formed partnership of public research universities pushing to reduce
the nation’s reliance on foreign oil and develop renewable energy. That is forward thinking and
good for our world. Your relationship with Massey calls into question your motives and
judgement. How can you sit with Massey and then say you are working for the environment and
our future. These two entities are not consistent with one another.
Please resign from Massey and show the leadership that we have learned to expect from you!
Respectfully yours,

As children, my sister and I got lumps of coal in our stockings at Christmas for being bad.
Now is the time for you to let in the sunshine and put out the coal. ‐ Patricia, 43229
Based on Massey's track record on environmental issues, I feel that you should step down from
the board of this conglomerate. I guess you don't make enough money from running OSU? ‐
Charles, 43229
It is distressing to learn that such a distinguished and respected leader of my home city's
university is a paid board member of Massey Energy. Massey has a deplorable environmental
record. Please sever your ties with this company which exhibits policies and procedures that
damage our environment. ‐ Donna, 43229
Your position, and the money you take for it, makes a statement to all the students at Ohio State
that they should value profit over people. Is that what you want to say? If so, then OSU would be
better off without you. ‐ Tracy, 43229
Can anyone exercise common sense these days! Do the right thing and think about the future of
our children!!!!!!
It's not rocket science for God's sake! Wake up! ‐ Judy, 43230
C'mon! Get with it! Ohio State gets into enough trouble without the added insult of "double‐
dipping!" Do the right thing! Resign from the board of Massey Energy. ‐ david, 43230
Dr. Gee,
How big was the grant (bribe), other than the outrageous salery, did Massey give OSU for dirty
coal research? Please disassociate yourself and the good name of Ohio State from this
environmental criminal.
Robert K. Kyle
rkyle@wideopenwest.com ‐ Robert, 43230
Mr. Gee‐ If this information that you are indeed on Massey Energy's board is correct, I find it
incredibly troubling and irresponsible. You have a unique position of power with which you may
do good or choose to do otherwise. Dis‐associating yourself from an energy conglomerate bent on
destruction of the environment and dependence on fossil fuels is mis‐guided at best. Please re‐
think your position and use your office to take a stand. ‐ Karen, 43230
I am truly disappointed to hear of your involvement with Massey. Set and example for
responsible leadership and resign. ‐ Barbara, 43231
Massey Energy is one of the nations worst energy companies. I ask you to resign from their Board
of Directors in protest of their horrible environmental record. ‐ Suzanne, 43231
Money is useless if we destroy our beautiful planet in the pursuit of it!! Our children deserve
better!! ‐ Melissa Lucheena, 43231
President Gee‐ as an OSU student, I'm very pleased with what you and the school are doing to
lessen the institution's impact on the environment. Please don't tarnish the reputation you have
created as a champion for the environment. I urge you to step down from your position as a
board member for Massey Energy.
Thank you,
Morgen Kuberek ‐ Morgen, 43231
I am so disappointed. I have been a fan of Gee for nearly 2 decades, and can hardly believe he
would serve on Massey's board. He's obviously as greedy as they are! He's gone from one
Buck(eye), to another kind of buck($). ‐ Amy, 43235
DOES THE WORK HYPOCRIT COME TO MIND ‐ JAMES, 43302
It's time for change. It is time to resign, your actions are not supportive nor ethical. ‐ TEQUILA,
43302
Dr. Gee,
My family has plenty of coal miners in its roots however times are changing and vision is so
important. Please step forward and resign from Massey. I am very disappointed that you are
aligned with this company! ‐ Joan, 43324
I was very surprised to learn that you had any connection with Massey Energy. Please untangle
yourself from this polluter. I am embarrassed for you! ‐ Lindsey, 43338
It's time you resign from a polluter and despoiler of natural habitat, Massey Energy.
And in this time of a strained financial budget in the State of Ohio, I call on you to take a major
pay cut as the President of OSU, and to return every penny of your salary and compenstion
package except for $1! ‐ Marlene, 43402
I guess even you can be bought? ‐ Randolph, 43413
Mr. Gee, you are the face of our beloved Ohio State Buckeyes.
To "talk out of both sides of your mouth" is to put a stain on Ohio State and our Ohio. You should
set an example for all
OSU students. Get out of the coal business. ‐ David, 43420
Do the right thing! ‐ Steve, 43438
Mr Gee...For a man of two faces there are two doors.
Whicc door will you choose...Right or Wrong? I hope
you choose the Right door and Resign From Massey
Energy's Board Of Directors! ‐ Lois, 43447
You must be crazy to be even slightly involved with Massey Energy. This is a perfect example of
why the American public views politicians and business people, in general, as criminals. We can't
trust anyone in a position of "power".
Get away from Massey Energy. I know I will be backing away from any continued support of Ohio
State sporting events until you do.
Very, very frustrating. Unbelievable.
Kathleen Miller
Rossford, Ohio ‐ Kathleen, 43460
i am definitely not surprised that you, mr. gordon gee, believe that the students are too stupid to
figure out the code of hypocrisy by which you live. i am definitely not surprised that you are a sell
out and you would use the university to cover your scheme. i am soooo disgusted that there isn't
even a word created to truly express how disgusted i am. since you obviously do not believe in
ethics, you should most definitely resign your position as co‐chairman. ‐ catherine, 43463
Dear President Gee,
We were shocked to learn that you are receiving $200,000 a year for being on the Board of
Massey Energy. Are you aware of the bad environmental record of this company? We feel that the
honorable thing to do is to resign from this Board.
If your argument is that you are there to try to make changes in the practices of this company,
then make this known and agree to serve without compensation.
We are waiting to see what you will do.
Thank you. ‐ Henry & Johanna, 43512
QUIT ‐ Charles R & Denise J, 43512
Quit! ‐ Charles R & Denise J, 43512
You pocket $200,000 a year to sit on the Massey Energy Board while president of OSU is
outrageous while co‐chair of the newly formed partnership of research universities. How
discrepant! Resign you money grabbing scoundrel. ‐ William, 43537
You cannot have it both ways. You are either with the green movement or you are against it. Coal
is against it! ‐ Brian, 43545
Dear Dr. Gee,
I think there is a conflict of interest when you are president of OSU ‐‐ which receives so many
federal & state research dollars ‐‐ and the board of a private energy company. I would think you'd
agree; I hope you will resign from the Massey board.
Sincerely,
Karen Rothman ‐ Karen, 43551
Dear Dr. Gee,
I think there is a conflict of interest when you are president of OSU ‐‐ which receives so many
federal & state research dollars ‐‐ and the board of a private energy company. I would think you'd
agree; I hope you will resign from the Massey board.
Sincerely,
Karen Rothman ‐ Karen, 43551
At this time there is no "clean coal". ‐ Edgar, 43560
Your association with Massey Energy creates a conflict of interest which contradicts and makes a
mockery of your stated commitment to improving the environment. Dirty, unsustainable energy
is the way of the past, and is holding Ohio back, and is not in the interest of the citizens of this
state. Our universities need to lead the way to a better future, economically, environmentally,
and technologically. You must do better at representing your institution and your state. ‐
Rebecca, 43604
You """"promote"""" clean energy but build and spend on coal and oil. Drill baby drill RIGHT!!! ‐
Chuck, 43605
Dear Mr.Gee,
Your 'dirty coal history' through continuing to sit on the board of Massey Energy coal company
while representing OH at our #1 university and functioning as the appointed leader of our
sustainable energy job iniatives are incompatible and hypocritical stances,to say the least.Resign
from Massey or from Ohio State and end this duplicity now!
Sincerely,
Cathy Crumley ‐ Cathy, 43606
Do you serve the public or Massey? ‐ Leonore`, 43606
You've become a powerbroker with no ethics. You are indeed marginalized and you know it. ‐
Trudy, 43606
Sad to hear that you are now at the behest of Massey Energy's destructive policies and drawing
down a six figure salary, while doing so. Many hope that our public figures and educational gurus
will take environmental damage seriously and begin to stand up for the creation. This involves in
part your good name and reputation to be sure. As Shakespeare was wont to say, "Good name in
man and woman is the immediate jewel of their souls. He who steals my purse steals trash; twas
something, nothing! Tis mine, tis his and has been slave to thousands. But he who filtches from
me my good name steals that which enriches him not and makes me poor indeed." My personal
hope is that you and many holding official standing within offices that serve the nations' needs
within the public domain will stand up for environmental change that honors the creation.
Remember your part and good name within it. After all you and I are privileged to carry out our
lives through the wonderfully balanced ecology of this beautiful place. We simply must do all
within our power and professional lives to reverse policies that pollute mightily, while profiteering
greatly, and at the same time put little thought and effort into reversing such policies. ‐ william,
43607
President Gee,
Please do the right thing, and step down from the Massey Energy Board, now that you are a
leader in the new renewable energy and green jobs movement. ‐ Karen, 43613
Dear Dr. Gee, As a loyal OSU Alumni since 1961, I think it is shameful that you are part of this
company's Board of Director's given their incredible record of environmental degradation. I think
you should publicly resign and state why you are resigning. Do the right thing Dr. Gee! ‐ Richard,
43615
Sorry but your personal income arrangement and your public policy don't match. Time to put
integrity first and resign as a public statement. ‐ Mary Igoe, 43615
Your obvious lust for the $200K salary from such a disreputable coal company is a disgrace and
you dishonor Ohio State University. Shame, Shame!! ‐ Robert, 43615
It has been brought to my attention that you are in a conflict of interest situation. How can you, in
good faith, be co‐chairing a committee to reduce our reliance on foreign oil and develop
renewable energy at the same time you're on the payroll of Massey Energy, a major polluter in
the coal industry. I recommend that you choose your priorities and remove yourself from one or
the other. I hope that you will choose to be forward thinking and get off the board of Massey
Energy. This would be better for the earth and for the futures of the students who pass through
the Ohio State University on their way to responsible adulthood. ‐ Debbie, 43617
Gee should be prosecuted by the state of Ohio. Resign from Ohio State, resign from Massey, then
Go to jail. ‐ Bill, 43619
You can't serve two masters, especially when they hate each other. ‐ Bill, 43619
Please don't give tacit approval to a company who has an environmental record like this one‐‐take
a stand‐‐RESIGN! ‐ Bev, 43701
Come on now. Don't we have enough corruption in this country without you adding to it. Make
up your mind which side of the fence you're on and stay there. Dipping into pockets from both
sides is unacceptable. ‐ Shelley, 43783
Dr. Gee,
You being a person a person that represents Ohio State University should be ashamed of being on
a board that represents a company as greedy and which has so little requard for environment a
Massey. You should be aware that Massey has only one thing on their mind and that is money,
They will stop at nothing to achieve their goal. If it's money that makes you click then I and the
OSU nation are all very disapointed in you. ‐ David, 43824
Read our lips... R‐E‐S‐I‐G‐N. ‐ Joan, 44001
President Gee should resign from the board of the energy company. Regardless of whether the
company is good for the environment or not it is a conflict of interest for him to be on the board
of the company while also being president of OSU. ‐ Patrick, 44012
Mr. Gee,
If you wish to set a example for your students you would your action will say more than words.
Sincerly
Gregory Vidoli ‐ gregory, 44017
Someone is getting short changed here, and since I don't have any interest in Massey Energy then
as a taxpayer of the State Ohio I would have to question your salary as President of Ohio State
University. You second job pays you two hundred thousand, so it must cause you to be away a
great deal of the time. If thats not the case then your just exploiting your position and cheapening
the great university that employs you....Have you no shame or are you just in this for yourself. ‐
Bob, 44023
Sir, you can't have it both ways...the ethical way is to resign from Massey and be the unbiased
leader of the renewable energy/green movement.
Peace, R Kvet ‐ Rosalind, 44024
Coal is not a renewable energy resource, aside from being one of the dirtiest and evironmentally
destructive fuels. Mr. Gee, if you are going to present yourself as a champion of renewable energy
and green jobs in Ohio, and expect anyone to take you seriously, it is imperative that you give up
your cushy position on the board of Massey Energy and your $200,000/year reimbursement for it.
We've had too many political instances of the fox being appointed to watch the henhouse here in
Ohio, and if you want to maintain any credibility, it's high time you step away from this particular
henhouse. ‐ Diane, 44026
Please don't be a hypocrite. Practice what you preach... unless you are able to change Massey
Energy's environmental record into one that promotes clean, green energy. ‐ Kenneth, 44060
It is an abomination to think that you are serving on the board of this business. This man runs his
company with an iron fist as a dictator‐‐ and with the same lack of compassion or empathy for the
environent or his employees. He has proven that time after time. Put your money where your
mouth is and do the honorable thing‐‐ withdraw from the board and use your position to make
change in a different way. If you truly believe that by sitting on the board you can make an
impact, then stay‐ AND GIVE UP YOUR $200K salary as an example to those of us who see your
seat more as tantalizing way to get more money in your pocket than as a means to effectuate
change. Your position on the board and the salary you receive from it are perfect examples of
the problems we have in this country and which have brought us to our knees financially. The
greed, contempt and sheer expectation of entitlement to these positions and money are
disgusting. ‐ penny, 44067
Mr. Gee,
Your serving on the Board of Massey Energy speaks volumes, and is teaching every student at
every level; you are leading by example. The problem is, it is the wrong example! ‐ Kristin, 44074
It is regrettable that you have chosen to engage with one of the nation's most destructive
environmental foes. It is embarassing that you have been named as a leader for the renewable
energy and green jobs movement. It is hypocritical that you have chosen to juxtapose these two
positions and will receive monetary benefit from both.
Please sever your ties with Massey Energy as soon as possible. Do not disgrace our state further. ‐
Valorie, 44094
Are you on this committee to reduce dependence on foreign oil because it could benefit Massey
Energy, upon whose Board of Directors you sit? If you are on this committee because you think
the US should be less dependent on foreign oil, resign from Massey's board. If you are on this
committee to benefit Massey, resign from the committee. ‐ Dawn, 44095
If you are truly in favor of Green energy and green jobs, you need to resign immediately from
Massey Energy and prove to the people of Ohio that your money is where your mouth is. Stop
taking the oil money and speaking from both sides of your mouth! ‐ Deborah, 44102
As an alumni of OSU, I would like to see you resign from the board of Massey Energy and show the
people of OH and all those associated with OSU that you do not believe in Massey's
environmental policies. Do not take their dirty money, they have a shameful record that I would
hope you do not want to be associated with now that you are co‐chairing the committee to end
our nation's reliance on foreign oil and develop renewable energy. Thank you for your
consideration. ‐ Carol, 44107
How can a public servant who claims to be an educator, take money from a company (Massey)
which is anything but green? Obviously, we picked the wrong man for the job. ‐ Suzana, 44107
I only hope that this is not true. If so, make a decision. Don't be a hypocrite. I am an alumni.
Dr. Richard L. Starn ‐ Richard, 44107
Personally, I think you should resign the co‐chairmanship. I don't think Massey would be paying
you $200,000 if they thought your heart was in leaving behind non‐renewable and
environmentlally unfriendly energy. ‐ joseph, 44107
You, sir, are an embarrassment to the State of Ohio and OSU, by maintaining your position on the
board of this egregious polluter. Time to resign from the board or from your OSU position. You
can't have it both ways! ‐ Tom, 44108
As a leader in the environmental movement you have an obligation to distance yourself from an
industry that is intent on slowing the growth of progress on clean renewable energy. ‐ Greg,
44109
The earth cannot stand any more death and destruction if you really care and have any honesty
about yourself you will not serve the master of greed and corruption and resign from Massey. ‐
mary jo, 44109
It beggars the imagination how anyone who calls himself an environmentalist, and advocates for
renewable energy can have any relationship to Massey Energy. Massey Energy is one of the most
notorious practitioners of mountain top removal coal mining, which is one of the most horrific
abuses of the American landscape that has ever been seen. Then you keep company with Don
Blankenship ‐ the Darth Vader of anti‐environmentalists, besides being one of the most corrupt
corporate figures in contemporary America (no small accomplishment!) who boasts of buying and
selling judges. A rogue who would have been right at home in the Robber Baron era. Make a
choice. Either sever all your relationships with green energy groups, or sever your ties to Massey
Energy. ‐ Randy, 44111
Please think of our future energy development and our citizen's health and resign from the Board
of Massey.
Explain to students at OSU how you can claim to be working for clean, green energy but be a paid
supporter of the coal industry. I'm disappointed in you as such a visible educator. ‐ Tristine, 44111
Dear Dr. Gee:
You are the most powerful, most esteemed, and most politically connected administrator in our
state. Please have NOTHING to do with Massey Energy, which sets a HORRIBLE example for
businesses striving to become practitioners of clean, green energy.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Cleveland, Ohio ‐ Mitsi, 44113
Mr. Gee ‐
You can't speak for the environment and the coal industry at the same time ‐ it's hypocrytical and
unethical!
Laura Spence ‐ Laura, 44115
I encourage you to resolve the potential conflict of interest between your service on the board of
Massey Energy and your responsibilities as co‐chairman of the partnership of public research
universities seeking to reduce our nation's reliance on foreign oil. The right thing to do would be
to resign from one of these positions. As a graduate of OSU, I would rather see you lead the
universities away from oil and coal, away from Massey Energy. ‐ Chris, 44118
I'm shocked that a highly paid (over‐paid in my opinion) university president would serve on a
board with this kind of environmental record.
I suggest that you resign, post haste. ‐ Roldo, 44118

Please show us how you're helping Massey or sever your ties. ‐ Alvin, 44118
For shame! You add another chapter of infamy to corrupt public servants. ‐ George, 44120
Help Ohio become green‐‐and clean. Resign from the Massey Energy Board. ‐ Connie, 44120
If this information is essentially accurate, this is no place for a University President. ‐ Elaine, 44120
Mr. Gee,
Coal is not a renewable energy source. Stop prostituting yourself to coal. Stop being a hypocrite ‐
either resign from the coal board or the committee.
Sincerely,
Kathy Rosner ‐ Kathy, 44120
It's time to put your money where your mouth is and resign from the Board of Massey Energy. ‐
Jean, 44121
Mr. Gee:
While the newly formed partnership of public research universities to help facilitate the move to a
green economy is an excellent idea and your role in it to be commended, the Massey connection
calls into question the integrity of the endeavor. We do so need to engage the best minds of the
academic as well as the scientific communities in the serious business of the day. I don't beleve
you can honestly do justice to the pressing environmental needs of today which are so much a
part of the overall financial crisis, along with education and health care, and have special interest
in and also serve and be indebted to such an environmental polluter as Massey Energy. Sincerely,
Sondra Schultz ‐ Sondra, 44121
Dear Mr. Gee:
Shame on you for your greed and your blatant disregard for the welfare of the state that pays
your salary. Resign from Massey at once. Or leave your post at OSU. Better yet, do both. We don't
need 'public servants' such as you.
Sincerely,
John L. Weil ‐ John, 44122
Does your presidency pay so little that you have to sell your soul. ‐ Carolyn, 44122
If you believe in research in alternative sources of energy and want the world to take you
seriously, then you would need to resign from the board of Massey Energy. As President of a
publicly funded University you need to answer to the taxpayers of the state. I urge you to do the
right thing and resign ‐ Edwina, 44122
Time to resign and and or make a $200,000 donation to an organization that is dedicated to

corporate responsibility.
Thanks for considering the significance of the energy issue. ‐ Marcia, 44122
Resign. Put the best interests of the environment first. ‐ carol, 44126
The facts are contradictory ... you need to resign from the board at Massey. You can't have it both
ways as you lose your credibility. Either "you're with us or you're against us". ‐ Cheryl, 44129
Get the soot off your resume. Resign immediately. ‐ Jerry, 44130
Mr. Gee,
I don't see how you can effectively serve both interests.
Choose one side or the other. Resign as co‐chairman or resign from the board. ‐ Joan, 44131
Please resolve your appearance of conflict of interest by resigning from Massey Energy. Thank
you. ‐ Peter, 44131
You should be ashamed of yourself. How can you be on both sides of the fence.Because it's greed
get all you can from both sides, your wallet gets fatter. ‐ Glen, 44135
If you cannot positively use your influence to change Massey's poor environmental record, quit! ‐
Kathleen, 44136
Massey's backyard needs to be cleaned up and if you do not resign from his board, you are right in
the middle of the dirty backyard. Do the right thing and shake him loose. ‐ cheryk, 44138
As an Ohio Univerity grad, I've never much cared for Ohio State in as much as they tend to suck all
the air out of the room whenever Ohio an college are mentioned in the am sentance. That having
been said, Dr. Gee, don't let these bat shit crazy neo‐Marxist "green" goons intimidate your
professional and persona choices! Serve on the boards and committees that you see fit and lead
with a good conscience. There are scores of Ohioans who's table of bread and meat comes
directly because of coal. So, proudly tell ProgressOhio to take the shaft and know that many non‐
OSU Ohioans are totally in your corner. ‐ Fred, 44140
Do the right thing! ‐ barbara, 44140
We need leaders especially of fine Universities like Ohio State who are willing to oppose the
Massey Energy company policies instead of raking in huge bucks to enable their environmental
disasters. Please, please resign from their board and work for environmental health. You stand to
be a model for all the students at Ohio State ‐‐ think of the impact of such a courageous action for
the entire student body. Our daughter is a proud graduate of your University ‐‐ but this wrecks
any pride she has had. ‐ Nell, 44147
Soon, hopefully the president will see how worthless and corrupt our state university presidents
are and will begin removing overpaid administration ‐ david, 44221
Mr. Gee:
It is time for you to resign your position on the Board of massey Energy!!!!
You are setting a bad example for the students of Ohio State as well as all who live in Ohio. It
seems that you are being a hypercrite chairing a partnership to reduce the nations reliance on
foreign oil & develop renewable energy, while serving on the board Of Massey Energy earning
over $200,000.00 annually.
Please do it now!!!
Jim O'Brien ‐ Jim, 44223
Resign From Massey Energy's Board Of Directors
There is no way to reconcile serving as co‐chairman of a newly formed partnership of public
research universities pushing to reduce the nation’s reliance on foreign oil and develop renewable
energy, and being paid nearly $200,000 a year for serving on the board of Massey Energy, a coal
company with one of the nation’s worst environmental records.
Do the right thing and be a role‐model for your students and others‐‐resign immediately. ‐ Lyndee,
44224
I respectfully ask you to discontinue your conflict of interest. In a time when true ethical
leadership is needed, you should be ashamed of yourself. ‐ Sandy, 44233
It is completely incongruous for you to continue serving Massey Energy and the people of Ohio at
the same time. Resign from their board! ‐ Edwin, 44240
OSU President Gordon Gee is talking out of both sides of his mouth.
While serving as co‐chairman of a newly formed partnership of public research universities
pushing to reduce the nation's reliance on foreign oil and develop renewable energy, he is being
paid nearly $200,000 a year for serving on the board of Massey Energy, a coal company with one
of the nation's worst environmental records
Massey Energy's shameful record:
behind one of the single worst environmental disasters in the region's history, according to the
EPA.
biggest Dept. of Justice settlement in the coal industry's history, for safety violations which led to
a deadly mine disaster.
largest fine in EPA history for violations of the Clean Water Act. ‐ perry, 44240
You should be ashamed. ‐ DOUGLAS, 44262
Dear President Gee,
I agree that as the public face of Ohio's flagship, land‐grant university, that you should resign from
Massey Energy' Board of Directors. I am a proud alumni parent and a real fan of you and your
commitment to OSU. Please consider taking the correct symbolic and real step and severing ties
with a coal producer. Our future is in moving away from coal. Help your university and your state
take the lead in taking this difficult step. ‐ MIchael, 44264
Mr. Gee:
You should be simply disgraced by your actions and stripped from OSU and be forced to give back
10 years of your lush salary!!!.
If I had my way, the top three layers of Administrators, CEO's, Presidents and Vice Presidents of
any organization in the US would be AXED. They are a non‐productive group of any organization
who syphon off all the dollars they can and do as little for the organization as possible. The
people who actually work their tails off to make the organization get what scraps the GREED
HUNGRY administrators leave.
If you're not performing for the organization you should be let go. ‐ Pauline, 44273
Resign now. Your not doing what's best for OSU or the state of Ohio. ‐ robert, 44278
Dear Mr. Gee,
Please resign from Massey Energy. Think about your legacy.
Thank you,
Ms. Kat Gibbons ‐ Kat, 44287
HAVE THE GOOD GRACES TO RESIGN FROM MASSEY. ‐ Larry L., 44312
Since you are a newly named leader in the renewable energy movement, it's time to sever your
ties to that polluting Coal company, Massey Energy. Please do the right thing and resign from
Massey Energy's board. ‐ Julia, 44333
Time to go. ‐ Jim, 44473
Sometimes it is hard to do the "right thing", especially when it's going to cost you, but you should
resign from the board of Massey Coal. As a former resident of WV you're making the rest of us
"out migrants" look bad. ‐ Ben, 44504
Resign! ‐ Mary Beth, 44601
You should resign from OSU! ‐ Tom, 44601
Greed knows no boundaries ! I guess it isn't enough to be overpaid at one job, you have to have
your fingers in another "cookie jar" besides. Your an example of what has ruined this country ! ‐
Jerry, 44637
Do the right thing. Resign from Massey's Energy Board of Directors. ‐ Deborah, 44646
Take a deep breathe and do what you should do. As President of OSU do you need the extra
$500,000. I am sorry you are president of OSU the board should make some changes. ‐ Deane,
44672
Dear Sir:
I believe you should give SERIOUS consideration to the request that you resign from the board of
Massey Energy. In addition to being a singularly bad example to set for the many students of The
Ohio State University, it seems like questionable ethics to me. How can you serve on this board
while claiming to support research into new energy resources? ‐ Elizabeth, 44691
As a former Director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, I am very disappointed that
you would maintain a relationship with this company. You certainly do not need the money,
considering what the taxpayers of Ohio are paying you. Do the right thing, resign from the Board
and dispose of whatever stock you have in Massey Energy. ‐ joseph, 44709
Please resign from the Board of Massey Energy.Their record is horrible and your position warrants
looking at the whole picture and what your presence on the board implies. ‐ Marybeth, 44709
How can you accept a salary from this irresponsible company? Your resignation would speak
volumes! We need sound leadership and leaders who "walk their talk"! ‐ Francine, 44718
It is critical we bring some intergrity to our enviournmental efforts. You are aware of the grave
ecological situation your scientist are telling us all we are in. There is no time to equivicate!! We
must bring our best efforts to reducing our carbon imprint. There is no doubt that coal needs to
be apart of these efforts. However, the coal industry must rigoriously find ways to produce clean
coal in increasingly more efficient electrical plants. We must all make our maximum efforts if we
are to avert a ecological disaster. We expect strong leadership from the president of OSU. OSU
must lead in our efforts, not collaborate with industries that will do anything to keep profits up at
the expense of our survival. ‐ John, 44720
Resign Now!!!! ‐ Trina, 44720
Your accepting money from Massey speaks volume about your values. ‐ Don, 44720
I look forward to hearing from you when your resignation is submitted and also to reading about
it in the papers. ‐ Warren, 44721
You need to figure out where your priorities lie. You can't have it both ways and feed from the
troughs of opposite ends. Guys like you sicken me...that's why America is in the dire straights that
it's experiencing. Why are you just so greedy when so many of us are living hand to mouth for the
moment and maybe for a long time to come? Be a man and take a stand and live or die by your
word ‐ something new??? ‐ Teri, 44830
Massey Energy has been one of the worst offenders in mountaintop removal, and an opponent of
renewable, sustainable energy. If you truly want to help our country move toward a more sane
energy policy, please remove yourself from affiliation with Massey. Thank you. ‐ Ann, 44836
Have you decency, Sir ? ‐ Have you no decency ?
People are growing vastly tired of the likes of hypocrites like yourself.
Give up your position and give up your financial gain ! The perceived
betterment of own position in life comes with a horrible price.
You should be ashamed ! ‐ Cheryl, 44907
You and your company made a mess.
Your should resign, and take no severance. Just get out. ‐ Grover, 45011
Dr. Gee‐I'm disappointed that the president of OSU would serve on the board of a for‐profit
corporation, much more so that the corporation in question is one with a poor environmental
record. Mountaintop removal is a hideous practice. I hope you will resign from Massey Energy's
board. ‐ John, 45013
Don't destroy the mountains for coal. There is no such thing as clean coal. We need to developve
completely new energy technologies by thinking outside the box. ‐ Roger, 45039
You must resign from this two‐faced position @ $200,000 at Massey Energy.Their record is
foul, how can you be a spokesman for them? ‐ Lola, 45044
It's jut the appearance of an impropriety that makes you look bad. Please help out the people of
Ohio and resign from the Massdy ‐ Andy, 45056
Get your head out of your ass and your hands out of Massey's pockets. ‐ Tom, 45066
Gordon Gee, Please Resign From Massey Energy's Board Of Directors People should not belong to
anything that they do not believe in 100%. ‐ Sherri, 45069
What the hell are you thinking! ‐ William, 45069
you need to resign from the Massey Board to help us go forward into the future of energy not go
backwards ‐ Richard, 45107
Gordon get off your ass and resign and stop rapeing the Country. You rich fools are are alike, you
and the rest are all crooks all you know is how to screw the system only for your gane! ‐ Jerry,
45118
Your focus should be on educating young people and consequently enhancing our nation, not
adding even more money to your already over‐stuffed wallet! Do the right thing and resign from
this company's board! ‐ Kimberly, 45133
There is no such thing as clean coal. We want people to be safe and the environment to be livable
for our children and grandchildren. Please resign from your position and do the environment a
favor! ‐ Patricia, 45140
Your membership on the Massey Board of Directors is a disgrace to The Ohio State University.
As an alumni member, I believe your involvement with Massey and its continuing poor ecological
record does misrepresents the University's goals and ideals.
You should resign from the Massey Board of Directors immediately. ‐ Steve, 45150
As a graduate of Ohio State University, I'm particularly concerned if these allegations are true. If
so, it's time to sever one relationship or the other, personally I'd prefer to see you leave the board
of Massey. Best wishes in your decision............ ‐ Richard, 45174
Best Gordan Gee,
Please practice what you preach and resign from the board of Massey and truthfully devote
yourself to clean and energy. Please dont be a hypocrite we have had enough of that from the
Bush administration and see where it got us.
Yours,
Glenn Bassett ‐ Glenn, 45174
Shame on you!!! Resign immediately..... ‐ Anita, 45177
President Gee,
I think it would be more effective and honest of you to resign from the partnership of public
research universities pushing to reduce the nation’s reliance on foreign oil and develop renewable
energy. Having already served and still serving as a board member of Massey Energy I don't think
you would be working whole heartedly towards the goals of developing renewable energy. This
seems to be in conflict with your already established goals.
Dave Allen
GreenBird LLC
Cincinnati, OH ‐ Dave, 45202
Mr. Gee, do the right thing. ‐ Carol, 45205
Come on Gordon, THERE IS NO SUCH ANIMAL AS CLEAN COAL! We all know it, I am sure that you
do as well. Please come CLEAN, really clean. Ditch Massey.
Thanks,
Peter St. John ‐ Peter, 45206
Dr. Gee ‐ Perhaps you have a good reason for serving on the Massey Energt biard, but it seems to
me, as an ordinary citizen, you are opening your self up to the appearance of a serious conflict of
interest, if not the reality. Please consider your role as a community leader and do not continue
to support a company that has been so destructive to our environment and the lives of so many
people.
Sincerely,
Alice Abrams ‐ alice, 45206
I've known about Massey Energy's abuses for years. I am stunned to discover that Gee is a
member of their board. ‐ Barbara, 45213
Mr.Gee,
After reading your record on your failed policies I also feel that you should resign from the Board
of Massey Energy.
Joan Martin ‐ Joan, 45213
This is a huge conflict of interest. During this difficult economic time, return the taxpayers faith in
the system. We are disappointed all too often by stories of people in positions of authority
abusing their power. Please resign from the Board of Massey Energy now. ‐ Margaret, 45215
Your connection wiyh Massey Energy is a blantant conflict of interest. Resigh your Board position
or your university
research role into development of renewable energy and
end of reliance on foreign oil. ‐ Linda, 45223
3/28/09
Dear Mr. Gee,
Given the importance of maintaining integrity, how is it possible to be on the Board of Massey
Energy and a newly named leader in the renewable energy and green jobs movement at the same
time?
Thanks in advance for responsible action in this matter.
Regards,
Jackie Millay ‐ Jackie, 45224
Can this be true? Please think of the future generations of people your position can impact . . .
look inside your heart. Do the right thing. ‐ Chrissie, 45226
As president of OSU, you need to set an example for the students. Being on the board of Massey is
not a positive image. ‐ barbara, 45227
You MUST sever all ties w/Massey!!!!!!! What hypocrisy!!!!!! ‐ June, 45227
Do the right thing. Mr. Gee. I'm sure you don't need the money, so set a good example for your
students at OSU and resign from the board of the disgraceful Massey Energy ‐ NOW!
Sincerely,
Al Hidalgo ‐ Al, 45230
There is no way to justify your membership on Massey's board. Resign immediately. ‐ Damian,

Definite conflict of interest. I don't want my tax dollars spent on unethical behavior. ‐ Edward,
45241
I believe there is a conflic of interest; you should resign from the board of Massey Energy. ‐
Margaret, 45241
Mr. Gee:
Do what is moral and ethical; RESIGN from the board of Massey Energy. I have a granddaughter
attending OSU and two other grandkids waiting to attend. Setting the right example is the single
most important mandate given you. Do it now. ‐ Tracy, 45242
Be consistent. Either drop links to Massey Coal or resign from the Energy Initiative Advisory
Committee. You cannot with integrity serve both. ‐ Richard, 45243
Mr Gee:
As parents of an OSU student majoring in Environmental Science, we are deeply embarrassed by
your association with Massey Energy. Massey is an amoral, irresponsible corporation and its
record is well documented. You should either resign from the board or resign an OSU president. ‐
Andrew, 45243
You can't be a part of the solution if your a part of the problem ‐ Lorraine, 45244
A man cannot serve 2 masters ‐ Laura, 45248
I continue to be frustrated about the inequities in our society, and now I learn about the one you
are benefitting from. I really feel that people, like you, who are drinking from the public drinking
fountain, should be made to be beholden to me, and no one else. If you have time to be a
director of a coal co. than some one else is doing the work my taxes are paying you to do. Please,
please, give up your position as a director of the Massey Corp.
Dan Kanoza ‐ Dan, 45252
It is time to stop being a person who never really gives a straight answer. ‐ Thomas & Suzanne,
45322
I was shocked to learn of your connection with Massey Energy.
Please resign from the board. ‐ Mary, 45385
Mr. Gee,
I'm writing to urge you to resign from the board of Massey Energy. The money you take is as dirty
as the coal they burn and as blood soaked as the mines they run. ‐ Mark, 45402
It's time for you to resign. ‐ Walter, 45405
I'm an Ohio taxpayer and Full Professor of Management in the School of Business at the University
of Dayton. As a citizen and Ohio taxpayer who pays your salary, I'm stunned that you're on the
board of a company that is systematically engaged in mountain top removal to extract coal. I'm
additionally appalled that you're receiving $200k per year to serve on this board. Your salary as
President of Ohio State University should be more than enough to meet your needs and to
provide for a comfortable retirement. Go back to basic principles (academic and human), resign
from this board, and represent the people, not a narrow economic interest that is doing
permanent harm to the public interest.
Wesley King, J.D., Ph.D.

Please sever your ties with Massey Energy. We need public figures to lead Ohio to a cleaner
environment. You can set a good example for citizens of Ohio. ‐ Rebecca, 45419
This is shameful and hypocritical. ‐ JOSEPH, 45420
The millions you make at OSU aren't enough? ‐ Ken, 45424
Greedy... ‐ Aaron, 45429
I think your job as president of OSU should keep you busy enough these days. You can't possibly
be working for the best of Ohio's students while on the board of any corporation. ‐ Lisa, 45429
"Green energy" and coal don't go together. And Massey Energy has one of the worst
environmental (and human safety) records of all. ‐ Megan, 45430
Please quit trying to serve both masters‐‐they are total opposites!
If you can't give up that income, convince Massey to stop mountaintop removal. ‐ Fwen, 45439
As an OSU Alumni and environmentalist I find this information ‐ you serving on the Board of
Massey Enery ‐ most disturbing. ‐ Jay, 45440
If you are serious about reducing our dependence on oil then it's time for you to resign from the
board of Massey Energy. Do the right thing and help make us a "green nation." ‐ Ted and Sue,
45440
Suporting alternative energy is good. Being a board
member of a coal mining company with a terrible safety
and environmental record is bad. Please admit you favor
dirty coal companies with poor track records or resign. ‐ fred, 45440
Working in higher education in the state of Ohio, I want to make sure that we educate our
students to the best of our ability, while at the same time ensuring that they have a better
environmental future to look forward to. I urge you to continue your work advancing education
here in the state of Ohio, and at the same time becoming a champion of environmental causes.
Your position on the board of Massey Energy does not seem to advance the former and is
definitely at odds with the latter. Please resign immediately.

Please resign from one or the other, for the sake of the University community. (OSU grad '58,'61)

This is disgraceful and shameful. You should be setting an positive example for our young people
and the rest of Ohio. Resign and donate that $200K to efforts to preserve the environment and
find truly clean renewable energy. ‐ Linda, 45458
Wonder if the Cols Dispatch has picked up this. ‐ Shirley, 45458
As a graduate of OSU, I strongly oppose your double standards re: energy. In my opinion, it is time
to put your money where your mouth is and RESIGN FROM THE BOARD OF MASSEY ENERGY (that
has the worst environmental disasters in the region's history.
Thanks for your consideration. Blessings, Linda G. Butler, MSW ‐ Linda, 45504
We in Springfield are big Ohio State fans & supporters. We certainly would like for you to support
us with regard to the environment. I don't understand why you stay on the Board of Massey ‐ do
you have any concerns at all for our earth? I am a middle aged Realtor who would like for our
grandchildren to be able to breathe in the future! ‐ Debbie, 45504
Please do resign from Massey's board, for the sake of the reputation of The Ohio State University,
if for no other reason. A quick trip to West Virginia would open your eyes to countless other very
good reasons for disassociating yourself from Massey Energy. You probably see only smiling faces
in the board room; in the mountains, you'd see faces whose suffering would appeal to your better
nature. I feel confident you will do what's best for OSU and the nation, i.e., resign.
Thank you.

As an OSU alumni and a President's Club member, I was embarassed to learn that you are on the
board of this corporation. Please resign now! ‐ Carolyn, 45662
Dear Mr Gee, being the president, of OSU and serving as co‐chairman of the newly formed
partnerships of public research universities , pushing to reduce the nations reliance on foreign oil
and develop renewable energy , and at the same time being paid nearly $ 200,000.00 a year for
serving on the board of Massey Energy , a coal company with one of the nations worst
enviromental records, is hypocrisy, I think its time to put your money where your mouth is and
resign from the board of Massey Energy. what drives you people to do stuff like this , greed
maybe. Its geting know ,just what you are doing, why not resign now before it gets worse. ‐
Brenda, 45692
As amember of the Massey Coal Co. board, what actions have you taken to clean up their act? ‐
Lois, 45701
Conflict of interest here, Gordon Gee. ‐ B., 45701
Congratulations on your appointment as co‐chairman of the newly formed partnership of public
research universities pushing to reduce the nation’s reliance on foreign oil and develop renewable
energy. I understand you are also being paid nearly $200,000 a year for serving on the board of
Massey Energy, a coal company with one of the nation’s worst environmental records. Which side
are you on? ‐ Kathryn C., 45701
Dear President Gee:
I'm afraid Brian Rothenburg and Progress Ohio are right. Your position on Massey's Board of
Directors seems like a black eye for Ohio State University. I am an alumni of the Ohio State
University Moritz College of Law practicing law in Appalachia. Massey has the most horrific
environmental record of any of the major coal companies working the Eastern U.S. coal fields. I
understand that you may be encouraging Massey to come clean and that having someone on the
inside urging that role is important for positive change to happen. However, it shouldn't be you,
at least while you are also the face and President of the Ohio State University. Please consider
parting ways with Massey on behalf of the Ohio State University and the many good works it
pursues for the common good. Thank you for considering my views on this important matter. ‐
Jonathan, 45701
I had no idea you were involved with such a disreputable company as Massey. Your presidency at
OSU is a full‐time job. It's inappropriate for you to support and direct this dreadful outfit. ‐
Michael, 45701
If you are truly a national leader in renewable energy, you will either resign from the Massey
board, or forgo the $200,000 to eliminate that conflict of interest. ‐ Marie, 45701
The term "clean coal" is an oxymoron. Massey is an example of how badly a company can
perform in areas of environmental effects and safety violations. Your service on this board and as
co‐chair of an effort to reduce the nation’s reliance on foreign oil and develop renewable energy
is a true "conflict of interest." ‐ Rosemary, 45701
I cannot believe that a person of your education and stature can hold your head up high and still
remain a board member of Massey...shame on you, and shame on our state for permitting you to
continue on their board...it disgusts me! ‐ Michael, 45723
Resign from the board of Massey Energy or renewable energy. ‐ Linda, 45768
I am a retired faculty member who now lives in Southeastern Ohio, the heart of coal country. I
have seen for myself the legacy of environmental damage done by the coal industry. There is no
such thing as clean coal. It is unconscionable for you to say that you are promoting clean energy
while you are paid to be on the board of a major coal company. I urge you to resign your position
on the board of Massey Energy. ‐ Mary Beth, 45769
Resign from Massey ‐ Dave, 45780
Dear Dr. Gee,
I know that Progress Ohio has called on you to resign your post on Massey Energy's Board because
of serious safety problems. As a member of the Board of the Allen County Health Board I can put
myself in your shoes and recognize other approaches. Your role is to hang in, study the facts and
with your colleagues propose changes. I am sure you have dealt with problems every bit as
serious as these and have sucessfully worked out collaborate solutions. ‐ Tom, 45804
Stop your mixed messages. Resign from the coal company and donate your $200K fee to a non‐
profit working on new, clean renewable energy.
Sammie ‐ Sammie, 45840
It's time for you to resign from the board of Massey Energy. ‐ Rebecca, 45869
SHAMEFUL MR. GORDON..... IF AMERICA IS THE GOLDEN GOOSE‐ YOU SURE ARE DOING YOUR
PART TO STRANGLE HER.
FUNNY ISEN'T IT HOW DISASTER MAKERS NEVER SEE THEIR DARK SIDE....HOW THEY SEE THE
OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE $$ FOR THEM AT A COST OF HARMING CITIZENS...WHO I MIGHT ADD

MONEY GREEDERS.....SEEMS THEY NEVER STOP SEEING THEMSELVES IN THE MIRROR....YOUR
BEHAVIOR SHOWS...IF YOU LOVE THIS LAND OR NOT...SHAMEFUL. CB ‐ CAROL, 48125
Please be true to the ideals of change for our country. Big Energy will do anything to keep the
status quo but we need people like you to work for a green evergy future and move away from oil
and coal. Do it for your grandchildren. ‐ Barbara, 53704
i grew up in columbus ohio and i know how important OSU is to everyone, you have to set the
right example and let us be proud of ohio! ‐ maggie, 60614
It is not your right to mess up the environment for the future generations to clean up. ‐ John,
80127
Where are your ethics in taking money from an environmentally irresponsible company like this? ‐
Glenn, 80132
We remember you, Mr. Gee.
Now clean‐up your act and be at least a bit more objective in your work. ‐ W., 80231
How can you stand for renewable energy and green jobs when you are on the Board of Massey
Energy? Please resign. ‐ Dorothy & Richard, 80905
You can't have it both ways...you are acting like a Senator on the take! ‐ George, 81647
GET OUT, JUST ANOTHER CORRUPT CROOK ‐ Howard, 90291
You need to choose which side of the fence you are on. A hypocrite is not what the administrator
of a university should be. Especially when the one side of the fence is destroying the environment
and creating a very unhealthy situation for the citizens where Massey does its destruction to the
landscape. Please resign from the Massey board of directors. Thank you. ‐ Donald, 91766
Resign From Massey Energy's Board Of Directors ‐ Denis, 97119
Resign from Masssey, no double standards, protect us from the result of our reliance on coal. ‐
Don, 97202
It's time to try something new! Integrity! Ethics! Telling the truth and not manipulating and
deceiving the public to help Massey continue their destructive behavior! We the people are sick to
death of liars running the show and the tide is turning. ‐ Valerie, 98166
You hold not be involved with a coal company that is doing so much damage to our enviorment,
when you are a head of a great University. ‐ David, 33709‐4725
Do not be two faced! There is no such thing as clean coal.
Mountain top mining is very bad for the envirenment. All your effort on fuel technology should be
on solar, wind wave etc. OSU is a great research instutition and should work with President
Obama to develop renwable energy sources. University administrators should be bared from
getting hugh payments on boards of directors. Do you need the money for a yacht? ‐ Albert,
34017‐1032
Do the right thing! The future lies with renewable energy, the types of projects that are currently
going on at Ohio State. It would seem to me that the move to renewables is at odds with your
sitting on the board of Massey Energy and I would suggest that you reconsider your position on
the board. ‐ Ron, 43016‐9157
Please put your incredible energies to work for the good of all and guide Massey Energy see the
benefits of being responsible as a steward of the environment that will not ruin their bottom line.
If they aren't concerned, then you must use your good name to expose their environmental
disregard.
Thank You,
Jim Hunt ‐ James, 43026‐7881
Please help Ohio by getting behind industries that are good for the state. Your visibly stepping
down from this Board would send a strong and valuable message. Thanks, ‐John ‐ John, 43050‐
3516
Your ties with Massey and their terrible environmental record bring shame to our great
University. ‐ Ann, 43055‐2849
Honorable Gordon Gee,
We wish for you to reconsider your association with Massey.
It is none of "our" business, but who is going to stick up for the little guy and the environment? ‐
Stephen & Connie, 43062‐7756
Dear Dr Gee,
We need your head and your heart in the right place. Please support clean energy, and dump the
polluters. ‐ Karen, 43202‐2255
Be a true leader and resign from Massey Energy ‐ THATCHER, 43214‐3428
I am a Columbus lawyer and environmental advocate. I received three degrees from Ohio State: a
BA in 1981, a JD in 1987 and an MA in 2004.
You cannot sit on the boad of Massey Energy and call yourself a renewable energy advocate
without reeking of hypocrisy and sullying Ohio State' reputation. In the largest sense, coal burning
power plants are one of the largest single sources of global warming pollutants in the world. And
mountaintop removal mining is an abomination ‐‐ your company is stealing the Appalachian
landscape from future generations, and often that fill gets dumped into streams in a way that
clearly violates the intent of the Clean Water Act.
More specifically, Massey has a long and controversy‐strewn history that I'm sure you're well
aware of.
I welcome your spoken commitment to renewable energy, Doctor Gee. My comments are my
own, but I am a nominated candidate for election to the Sierra Club Board of Directors. We need
your help to stop an environmental catastophe. But you seem to believe that you can portray
yourself as a public environmental advocate and be on Massey's payroll at the same time. You
can't. As an environmnetalist and as someone who cares about Ohio State, I urge you to
recognize your error and resign from Massey's board. ‐ David, 43214‐4114
You are so about big money and putting on shows‐‐this should be a good one for you to "show"
people you have their best interests at heart! ‐ Peggy, 43220‐2473
Dear President Gee, It is inappropriate for you to be sitting on any Board of Massey Energy. For
that matter your well paid position as President of The Ohio State University should be your only
paying job. If you are really earning your $200,000 from Massey then you are surely shirking you
duties and responsibilities at OSU. Isn't your salary enough? If not then it is time to say enough is
enough to you. Patric Mary Bauer O'Brien, BSN'68, MSN, JD ‐ Patric Mary, 43221‐3062
I always thought you were bad for OSU and now I know you are bad for Ohio. What a creep. ‐
Sharon, 43229‐3670
Mr. Gee, you cannot play both sides of this issue. I would think you would have resigned from
Massey Energy without the people of Ohio telling you. You can not have your cake and eat it so to
speak. I realize the profit you make from this polluting giant is hard to turn down. If thats the case
, then resign your place on the renewable energy program. You cannot do both. ‐ Karryn, 43318‐
9524
Difficult as it is, Ohio needs to get out of the coal business. I hope you can be a leader in the
movement to find renewable energy and stop supporting the coal industry. There is no such think
as "clean coal." Resigning from the Massey Board would demonstrate your commitment and help
lead Ohio in the right direction. Marjorie Brittingham ‐ Marjorie, 44074‐1507
You can't be an educator and also be in the pocket of one of the worse polluters of our
environment in the Country. ‐ Jerry, 44138‐1145
I don't believe you can serve two masters ‐‐ the partnership to develop0 renewable energy and
Massey Energy, a coal company with a very bad environmental record. You must resign from the
board of Massey Energy. ‐ Catherine, 44144‐2850
You can't have it both ways. Practice what you preach. ‐ Patricia, 44240‐4422
My tax money is going towards your huge salary and that's not enough for you? I used to have
respect for people like you, but the more I find out about covert activities of those of your ilk, my
respect has dwindled to zero! ‐ Mary, 44260‐2003
Your choice...Which master will you serve?
Go Green! ‐ Sarah, 44278 1530
Resign from Massey Energy, now, sir! ‐ Doug, 44706‐4716
Please resign from Massey. My home state of WV is suffering greatly because of the
mismanagement by Massey and others. Your position on their board compromises the integrity of
OSU. ‐ Carol, 44842‐9720
Please be part of the solution not a main part of the problem. ‐ Betty, 44904‐9598
Shame on you. The young people you shepherd deserve a better roll model. Speaking out to save
our planet shouldn't be just a ploy to obtain funds. I am dumb‐founded at the lack of morals and
conscience so many are demonstrating these days! Seems you had plenty of company under that
rock. ‐ Jayleen, 45066‐9108
As a university President, we expect you to hold a high ethical standard. But you are failing us.
You should be ashamed of yourself.
Not only is Massey Energy's environmental record horrible, they are a completely morally
bankrupt corporation from the top down.
Please do the right thing and resign the board of Massey Energy immediately. ‐ James, 45213‐
1101
Something terribly wrong with this. Resign one job or the other. ‐ Gregory, 45750‐1908
You need to resign from the Board of Massey Energy. This is a huge conflict of interest ‐ Barbara,
2155
Equally, you could stick with Massey and resign from OSU. ‐ William, 10024
Do the right thing Dr. Gee, resign Massey energy now. Massey is a corporate outlaw that is
spewing chemicals and coal dust within 300 feet of a K‐5 elementary school. Massey also has a
strip mine above this school along with a 1,900 acre strip mine. ‐ Julia, 25174
Being a graduate of and part of a family of many graduates of The Ohio State University, I am
profoundly sorry to hear that you chose to be in a position where your creditability is called in
question. This is bad for the University and bad for America. ‐ John, 27810
Gordon
PLease Resign from Massey and stay with a group that will protect our enviroment. I know OSU is
doing research to save the enviroment. and As president you should support that movement. As a
OSU retiree I urge you to show leadership in protecting our enviroment. You sure don't need the
money. ‐ Gene, 32773
Mr. Gee, while I am currently living in Florida, I will always consider Ohio my home. I was very
proud to hear of your participation in a partnership for renewable energy research. HOWEVER, I
sincerely hope you will resign from the board of Massey Energy now, as continuing to collect
money from a company with such a horrific environmental record is the ultimate hypocrisy. ‐
Hillary, 33487
