national headache week

June 1 to 7 is National Headache Week. Nearly every-
one has had an “occasional” headache – that is pretty
normal. It is those severe, lengthy, or recurrent head-
aches which should concern you. The signs and symptoms of a headache depend on what
type you have. Here are the primary types:

Tension: Steady pain over your entire head on both sides. The pain may
feel like a tight band or vice putting pressure around your head. This is the most common
type.

Migraine: Severe pain felt on one, and sometimes, both sides of your head. The pain is
mostly in front around your temples or behind one eye or ear. Nausea, vomiting, and sensi-
tivity to light and sound may also occur. This may last a few hours to a couple days.

m h t n a r c h i t e c t s
Cluster: Sudden sharp pain or burning sensation on one side of your head, usually radiating
from the eye area. The pain may last minutes to hours and recur later in the day.

Sinus: Pain behind your forehead, the bridge of your nose, and cheekbones. This pain may
coincide with nasal congestion, and moving your head may intensify your pain.

Not all headaches require medical attention, but you should talk to your doctor about your
headaches if:

• You have several headaches per month lasting several hours or days each
• Your headache is sudden and severe
• Your headaches disrupt your home or work life
• Your headache is associated with nausea, vomiting, fever. Convulsions, confusion, loss of
consciousness, a head injury, pain to the eye or ear, or vision or other sensory problems.

CO M M UNICATION
There are three critical factors:
Verbal: The message itself, the words you say – this is 7%
Vocal: The variety, projection and resonance of your voice – this is 38%
Visual: W hat people see, specifically your body language – this is 55%
Some distracting mannerisms: monotone voice; read material; talk to screen; say “um” and
“ah”; play with pointer, pen, market; too much or too little movement; and playing with
change in pockets.

2008 Trailblazers
“A tradition of pioneering spirit has built Utah into one of the nation’s strongest states for busi-
ness today. Each year, a group of lasting companies are profiled in Utah Business. The 12
companies that make up this year’s list have created a legacy of quality, integrity and ser-
vice. The selected companies are exemplary not only for their longevity -- each company
reaches back at least 50 years -- but for their commitment to Utah’s economy and com-
munity. Enduring through economic ups and downs, these companies have built a heritage
along Utah’s corporate horizon.” Utah Business.

Congratulations to MHTN Architects for being selected as a 2008 Trailblazer!
