We extend our sympathies to Freda Brazis whose sister Debi Liggins died last week. Please say a prayer for her & for all those who are grieving her loss. I know this reminder is really unnecessary as our young adults never forget a confirmation assignment or scheduled meeting (I just felt like being sarcastic today), but all confirmation candidates and their sponsors will meet in the church this Sunday, June 2nd, at 6pm for our rehearsal for Confirmation. We should be done by 6:30 but Ill say 6:45 at the latest just to be sure we have enough time. If we still have not received your baptismal certificate (unless you were baptized at St. Stephen), please be sure to bring that with you to the rehearsal. The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) has been planning social events for almost every month during this year. In this month of June we will have a Fathers Day Breakfast sponsored by the Ladies Guild and next month we will have a Chicken BBQ. But we are looking for someone who may be interested in coordinating a simple Parish Picnic during the month of August. If youre interested, please let me know! This Sunday, June 2nd, we are blessed to celebrate the th 50 (Golden) Wedding Anniversary of parishioners Dave & Sandy Green. There were married on June 1 , 1953 at St. Roccos Church in Cleveland. They have invited family & friends to join them for the celebration during the 11:15 Mass this Sunday, where I will offer them a marriage blessing. At the end of next month, they will also be attending a Mass at St. John Cathedral celebrated by Bishop Lennon for those celebrating 50 years of marriage in the Diocese of Cleveland. Congratulations to you both and know of our prayers for you this weekend! Next Saturday, June 8th, Katie Reith (St. Stephen) & Nevin Morgan will be married in our church. On Sunday, June 9th, Bishop Quinn will confirm our young people & some adults during the 11:15am Mass. Please keep all these people in your prayers.

DEACON'S CORNER: Patricia and I have been thinking that we brought the cool damp weather back from Oregon with us. We hope that it has improved by the time you read this. We are having a special collection this weekend for all of the people affected by the tornado in Moore, Oklahoma. We have a local connection with this disaster. Alise, the daughter of Frank and Lois Yehlik, had her family's home destroyed by the tornado. Their home was located less than a block from the elementary school that was destroyed. By the grace of God, Alise and her family members are all uninjured. I can hardly imagine living through such a terrible disaster cause by the power of nature. I hope you will be able to dig deep and be as generous as possible to this collection. If you are not prepared to donate this week, please put your donation in an envelope marked Oklahoma Relief and put in the collection next week. Please make all checks out to St. Stephen Church with Oklahoma Relief on the memo line. Attention ACCESS Volunteers! Mark your calendars as our next rotation is coming up the week of June 16th! Please help us coordinate the different areas of ministry such as drivers, spending time with our guests, providing food, by calling Ray Hirsch at 419-945-7017 to get your favorite pick of the time slots. This is a great opportunity for those who have been thinking about volunteering to sign up and try it out. It is very satisfying. Thanks so much for helping with this much needed ministry! Ignorance of Scripture is Ignorance of Christ How often we have heard these words of St. Jerome! Now we have a way to join in with the daily Mass attendees and with the Church around the world by picking up a copy of The Word Among Us and getting into the habit of reading the daily scripture verses and accompanying meditation. With very little effort you will learn more about your faith which will bring you closer to God! To encourage you to start this journey, we are now offering your first copy for $1thats one dollar! Pick one up in the Gathering Room and start spending more time with the Word! Marriage---It is a Sacrament The sacrament of Matrimony comes about through a promise made by a man and a woman before God and the Church, which is accepted and confirmed by God and consummated by the bodily union of the couple. Because God himself forms the bond of sacramental Marriage, it is binding until death of one of the partners. God disposed man and woman for each other so that they might be no longer two, but one. What threatens marriage is sin, what renews it is forgiveness, what makes it strong is prayer, and trust in Gods presence.
