TASK 71-13-00-010-040-B Opening of the Fan Cowl Doors WARNING: DO NOT OPEN THE FAN COWL DOORS WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. WARNING: DO NOT OPEN THE FAN COWL(S) WHEN THE WIND SPEED IS 60 MPH (96 KM/H) OR MORE. INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR IF THE WIND MOVES THE FAN COWL (S). WARNING: BE CAREFUL IF YOU OPEN THE FAN COWL(S) WHEN THE WIND SPEED IS 30MPH (48KM/H) OR MORE. INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR IF THE WIND MOVES THE FAN COWL(S). CAUTION: WHEN THE FAN COWL DOORS ARE OPEN, DO NOT USE THE FIRE DETECTOR SUPPORT TUBE AND ELEMENTS FOR A HAND HOLD. THE TUBE AND ELEMENTS CAN BEND. (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure. (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU: (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off. A. Opening of the fan cowl doors CAUTION: USE YOUR HANDS TO OPERATE THE FAN COWL LATCHES. IF YOU USE SOMETHING DIFFERENT FROM YOUR HANDS TO OPERATE THE LATCHES, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE LATCHES. (1) Push the trigger to release the latch handle. (2) Pull the latch handles down to disengage the latch hooks from the clevises. (3) Move the lock rings to release the hold-open rods from the stow brackets. (4) Extend the hold-open rods: CAUTION: BOTH HOLD-OPEN RODS ON BOTH DOORS MUST BE ENGAGED WHEN DOOR IS OPEN. (a) Extend the hold-open rods to hold the doors open at either the 40-degree or 55-degree position. (5) Attach the hold-open rods to the attach brackets on the engine case. (6) Check latch handles CAUTION: DO NOT ENGAGE THE LATCH HANDLE HOOKS WHEN THE FAN COWL DOORS ARE OPEN. (a) Make sure that all the latch handle hooks are not engaged. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU, make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to start the engine. (2) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU, make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off. (Ref. Fig. Fan Cowl Doors SHEET 1) Subtask 71-13-00-410-050-A A. Stowage of the hold-open rods (1) Support the weight of the fan cowl door. (2) Move the attachment lock on the rod assembly to release the hold-open rods from the attachment brackets on the engine. (3) Move the hold-open rod assembly away from the engine case. (4) Pression of the release levers CAUTION: ONLY A SMALL FORCE IS REQUIRED TO OPERATE THE RELEASE LEVERS. IF YOU USE TOO MUCH FORCE, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENT. IF IT IS DIFFICULT TO OPERATE THE RELEASE LEVERS, A TWISTING ACTION ON THE CONCENTRIC RODS WILL EASE OPERATION. (a) Press the release lever and retract the hold-open rod assembly until the minimum extension is reached. (5) Attach the hold-open rods to the stow brackets located on the fan cowl doors. Make sure they lock into place on the attach brackets. Subtask 71-13-00-410-069-A B. Close the fan cowl doors CAUTION: DO NOT LEAVE THIS JOB AFTER JUST CLOSING THE FAN COWLS, CONTINUE ON TO SECURE THE LATCHES. IF YOU ARE CALLED AWAY PRIOR TO LATCHING, THEN EITHER RE-OPEN ONE COWL DOOR OR LATCH THE LATCHES BEFORE WALKING AWAY FROM THIS ENGINE. (1) Lower the fan cowl doors and press them together to engage the door latches. (2) Clevis use recommendation CAUTION: DO NOT TURN THE CLEVISES. IF YOU TURN THE CLEVISES, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE HOUSING GUIDE. IF THE GUIDE IS DAMAGED, THE CLEVIS CAN TURN. IF THE CLEVIS CAN TURN, THE CLEVIS CAN NOT ENGAGE CORRECTLY WITH THE LATCH AND CAN KEEP THE LATCH FROM CLOSING CORRECTLY. IF THE LATCHES ARE NOT CLOSED CORRECTLY, THE FAN COWLS CAN OPEN IN FLIGHT. (a) Make sure that the latch hooks on the left fan cowl door are correctly engaged in the clevises on the right fan cowl door. CAUTION: USE YOUR HANDS TO OPERATE THE FAN COWL LATCHES. IF YOU USE SOMETHING DIFFERENT FROM YOUR HANDS TO OPERATE THE LATCHES, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE LATCHES. (3) Close the latches in the following sequence: (a) Front latch (b) Center latch (c) Rear latch (4) Make sure that all latch handles stay in the fan cowl slots and are aligned with the adjacent fan cowl surface.

(5) Adjust the fan cowl latches if required (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-800-041) . NOTE: All the latches must be latched when the fan cowls are closed. If the latches are not closed correctly, the fan cowls can open in flight. 5. Close-up Subtask 71-13-00-942-051-A A. Remove the warning notice(s). AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040) : (a) FOR 1000EM1 (ENGINE-1) 437AL 438AR (b) FOR 1000EM2 (ENGINE-2) 447AL 448AR (2) Put an STEPLADDER 0.5 M (1.6 FT) in position. 4. Procedure (Ref. Fig. Fan Cowl Doors with one or more Hold-Open Rods Missing SHEET 1) Subtask 71-13-00-010-072-A A. Opening of the Fan Cowl Doors with one or more Hold-Open Rods Missing (1) Remove the plugs of the hoist points from the fan cowl. Install the PAD - UNIVERSAL ATTACH. (2) Attach the SLING-FAN COWL (RSE1113) to the PAD - UNIVERSAL ATTACH and adjust the sling straps as necessary. (3) Lifting of the fan cowl door CAUTION: DO NOT OPEN THE FAN COWL DOOR MORE THAN NECESSARY. IF THE DOOR IS OPENED TOO FAR, THE HINGE FITTING CAN BE DAMAGED AND SECONDARY DAMAGE TO THE COWLING AND PYLON CAN OCCUR. (a) Lift the fan cowl door until the weight of the door is supported by the SLING-FAN COWL (RSE1113) . (b) Lift the door, with the SLING-FAN COWL (RSE1113) , sufficiently to get access. (4) Check latch handles CAUTION: DO NOT ENGAGE THE LATCH HANDLE HOOKS WHEN THE FAN COWL DOORS ARE OPEN. (a) Make sure that all the latch handle hooks are not engaged.
