Vade Mecum Prayers in Latin and English
Vade Mecum Prayers in Latin and English
Editio Prima
In each one of the translations (of the Compendium), the majority of the prayers will also be presented in Latin. Learning them, even in this language, will make it easier for the Christian faithful who speak different languages to pray together, especially when they meet for special circumstances. As I said in 1997, on the occasion of the presentation to my Venerable Predecessor of the Typical Edition in Latin of the Catechism of the Catholic Church: "Precisely in the multiplicity of languages and cultures, Latin, for so many centuries the vehicle and instrument of Christian culture, not only guarantees continuity with our roots but continues to be as relevant as ever for strengthening the bonds of unity of the faith in the communion of the Church".
Pope Benedict XVI Address on the Presentation of the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, 8, 28 June 2005
Latin prayers and their English translations are taken from The Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church by Libreria Editrice Vaticana, Vade Mecum Editio Quarta by the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, and The Roman Missal by Baronius Press

Magnificat
My soul glorifies the Lord, * My
spirit rejoices in God my Saviour. He looks on his servant in her lowliness; * Henceforth all generations will call me blessed. The Almighty works marvels for me. * Holy his name! His mercy is from age to age, * on those who fear him. He puts forth his arm in strength * And scatters the proud hearted. He casts the mighty from their thrones * And raises the lowly. He fills the starving with good things, * Sends the rich away empty. He protects Israel, his servant, * remembering his mercy, the mercy promised to our fathers, * to Abraham and his sons for ever. Glory be to the Father...

We acclaim you as Lord. Everlasting Father, All the world bows down before you. All the angels sing your praise, The hosts of heaven and all the angelic powers, All the cherubim and seraphim Call out to you in unending song: Holy, Holy, Holy, Is the Lord God of angel hosts! The heavens and the earth are filled With your majesty and glory. The glorious band of apostles, The noble company of prophets, The white-robed army who shed their blood for Christ, All sing your praise. And to the ends of the earth Your holy Church proclaims her faith in you: Father, whose majesty is boundless, Your true and only son, who is to be adored, The Holy Spirit sent to be our Advocate. You, Christ, are the king of glory, Son of the eternal Father. When you took our nature to save mankind You did not shrink from birth in the Virgins womb. You overcame the power of death Opening the Fathers kingdom to all who believe in you. Enthroned at Gods right hand in the glory of the Father, You will come in judgement according to your promise. You redeemed your people by your precious blood. Come, we implore you, to our aid. Grant us with the saints a place in eternal glory.
